  1. Mostly my wife's accomplishment, but hey, I put like twenty pieces together. You know you're in the fish game when you can't find a lamp in the house, but you can find an extra LED unit.
  2. Or you can be like me and live in an apartment where I can freely dump as much waste water down the drain without any consequences. Unless of course you consider the huge implication about wasted water and it's effect on the environment. That's a different story. I have no idea how efficient my unit is, probably not very, it's pretty cheap. I have the waste line going into the same place as the water drain for the washing machine so I never see or hear it.
  3. Links have been fixed.
  4. Gotcha...just throwin it out there. Thanks for running this contest. It's great that you managed it through the crash.
  5. While I am not involved in the growout, I thought I'd add this: Dragon posted photos that were apparently not counted for and so you DQ'd him. This is your response to his posting about whether his pictures were submitted on time or not and why he got DQ'd: "I think it was due to posting pictures but no polyp count. Honestly it was a month ago I don't remember the whole thing. Either way I'm going to be a cyber bully and stick to my post." However, in your rules, you don't seem to say anything about polyp count being required: "You will be required to post a photo update once a month. I will remind you of this when the time is soon to post. I know life gets busy and people go out of town so you have a 2 week window to post. You will have 7 days before and after the first of the month to post your update. If you do not post within the allotted time frame you will be disqualified." Later down the thread he mentioned that he did include polyps and you then told Dragon to stick around because you couldn't verify he was DQ'd. Maybe I'm missing something, but if Dragon's DQ was only for not mentioning polyp count, I don't think that's fair as that isn't in the rules. Anyway, I thought I'd throw that out for you to consider.
  6. Are you actually doing this??....manufacture date?
  7. Like the title says, MP40 units are now selling for a cool $299. This is some needed relief from their manufacturer mandated price of $395.95. Looks like new models might coming soon. Almost worth it....Almost. The Radion has released a new model for past three years so I wouldn't be surprised to see those units getting marked down shortly as well.
  8. Wow...this thing is impressive. I recently had an alk problem when my doser went offline for a couple days when I was gone. A couple of my acan colonies definitely got hit up a bit. So props to you for still coming out looking like this.
  9. Yeah it was labeled rock wrasse (Halichoeres semicinctus), but that doesn't look like the pictures I saw.

What do you think it is? Thanks for any insight.
  11. The links are probably broken because they lead to threads that were put together during the last two years. Obviously those threads would have been deleted with the hack. Guess we gotta start some new build threads.
  12. I don't know how to set a special permission, but I could edit it myself if you PM what you would like to have happen.
  13. Well an earthquake that cracks the tank would be unavoidable. Luckily we don't get that kind of action around here. For power outages, the two biggest concerns would be flow and temperature. For flow, there are battery backups that people use to keep their pumps running. Like Smann mentioned, people can also use generators. A generator would let you use a heater as well. Depending on how big your tank is, you can wrap blankets around it to maintain the temperature better. I don't know if I've actually seen someone try it (I imagine tons of people have), but you could put some of those little hand warmers inside a Ziploc bag and toss them in your tank. Of course you would cover your tank if you have a cover laying around. I'm sure there are many more ideas out there, but that's just a few.
  14. I would definitely give you some, but unfortunately red bugs have slipped through my dipping process. I know they only live on acros, but I wouldn't feel comfortable giving you some from the system.
  15. Definitely. This a meeting for everyone!! Maybe really young kids might get bored, but I'm sure there will be some interesting pictures to keep them entertained.
  16. Sorry you haven't got any hits on this. I'm sure there are some cubes out there somewhere! Come on folks!
  17. Sounds good. Why not just bake the baking soda? Super simple and ensures that you don't need to order any.
  18. So now that you're the winner, does the public relations guy get a frag? Makes sense to me in my crazy head.
  19. This is a great idea. I might try it if I get motivated. The weirdest part is that the tears are only on the little 2-3 inch clams. Nothing wrong with that massive clam I added from Douglas' setup. If something wanted clam mantle, I don't know why it wouldn't just eat that.
  20. Yeah, after much observation I think the blenny might get vindicated. I have been watching the tank as much as possible and I saw my stupid pink spotted goby snap at one of the clams. I've increased feeding (vodka reduced phosphates to near undetectable levels so I have room to work with) and have kept up observations. If I see it again, I'm eating some goby sushi.
  21. Dang man, that sounds like tough times. Good to see you've made it out of that lifestyle. [emoji12]
  22. I have put together a flier for the meeting. Please download the attachment and print some out to give away. This should be an excellent meeting. If you can't download it, send me an email and I'll send it that way (pr@pnwmas.org). Thanks for helping to make this event great! I've already got the flier hung up in two Petco employee break rooms so maybe we'll meet some new people in a couple weeks. Fellman flier double.pdf
  23. The Marine Magic and Jaebo pumps are pretty cheap. I've been running the MM for a while now. I'm convinced that at least some of these issues of pumps draining an entire bottle of nutrients is based on setting the doser timer as the time of day, rather than amount of time dosing. It's pretty easy because it's not immediately clear which setting is for the time of day and which is for time of dosing. Definitely worth my investment.
  24. I guess that's one less person to contend with when trying to win the Unique Corals frags and gift certificates. [emoji12] Sorry we'll miss you.
