  1. May be a dumb question but, have you taken the skimmer and pump apart for a good cleaning?
  2. I sent you a PM I will remember this, thank you.
  3. Anyone in the Vancouver area have a fish trap I can borrow? I need to catch a foxface and yellow corris. Thanks.
  4. It's really cool when you find gems that pop up in your tank. I've had this shroom for well over a year and it's still the size of a quarter. Recently it dropped a baby so now I have 2! I think the original was from a frogspawn I got from Jack. Here are a couple pics: Mom Baby What kind of cool coral have you found? Any interesting inverts or even cool sponges!

    Sent you a pm.
  6. Got to see this in person yesterday, Scott is a master at his craft!
  7. You could also get a piece of established rock or bio media to seed the qt but that would assume you leave it running all the time. If you're going to keep it short periods and store it, just use fresh salt water and an ammonia monitor. Have lots of water in hand to do changes as ammonia climbs. qt's are more for monitoring, to administer meds, move the fish to a hospital tank.
  8. I also have a 250w MH only a few months old. Radium bulb also only a few months old. I would sell it but you are also welcome to borrow it anytime. I was gonna use it for recreational purposes but I'm lazy! ????
  9. This pump has served me well but it has always been a little big for my sump compartment. Very quiet and has an adjustable dial on the front for flow control. Asking $80, these are $175 new! Here is a link with some info http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/sicce-syncra-silent-4-0-pump-951-gph.html?gclid=COvvo5K40s0CFYiVfgode8QEBAI will post pictures after I give it a bath. Comes with all parts and I think I have the box also. Thanks.
  10. I'm in Vancouver.
  11. I also have some dry and alive piece to seed if the other offers don't work out.
  12. Thanks Lex, I use Red Sea Coral Pro but I'm very bad about water changes (part of the problem haha) so I only do them once a month. Going forward, it will probably be every 2 weeks about 10-15 gallons each change. I figure with just softies my demand will be low for loss of nutrients but I also plan to test more. I feed heavily and have a lot of fish, that was my main reason for the skimmer aside from noise. I hope my declining nitrates continue, I think with this skimmer they will.
  13. Well I figured since my tank is finally reaching the end of all the ugly, i should update this thread. After neglect and changes after changes I have reached the point of just letting things be. I upgraded my equipment to more efficient and for my wife, more quiet pieces. I added the Bubble King skimmer and upgraded my return to a DC. I also added a Quiet drive and older Mp10 with a new dry side in place of the Gyre. I liked the gyre but not for my tank and rock work. I replaced my clown pair with the mocha's from my office tank and added (just today) a second flame angel. All of my coral are softies now and if they live cool, if not that's ok too. My anemone has split twice and continues to do very well as has my pride and joy, the eel. I thought for a while I was going to lose him after the second month of not eating, but he bounced back and eats like a pig again. I swear if he would have died, I would have traded my stock for goldfish and been done! Oh well, al is good and starting to get better. On to the pictures! To kinda celebrate my tank not actually dying, i bought one frag! I love the color combo so I hope it does well. I also cleaned my sump up and finally trimmed my cheato. Some pics of the tank Here is one I took through a filter that is pretty accurate when the Kessil is at full day I'm hoping to keep myself motivated through updates here but we shall see. Cruise control seems to be my way so I will be adding lines to and from the tank to the garage to do easier water changes. I figure the easier I make it, the more likely I will succeed!

    My new skimmer!

All I have to say about this skimmer is wow! It's the quietest skimmer I have ever used, since switching to this and my return to a Deepwater Aquatics DC, the fan on my Kessil is the loudest thing on my tank! I have emptied the cup once since starting it and it continues to produce great skim. The thing that I noticed right away is the air draw, it will suck you skin against the silencer when you grab the lid and it shows in the bubble production. If you have ever considered a Royal Exclusiv product don't hesitate, great product.
  15. I would love to know more about mine! The club should have an Apex class with beer!
  16. Reactor no longer available. Thanks.
  17. Any of the small angels will be risky in a reef tank. I'v found with my flame angel that he nips but doesn't kill or really hurt anything as long as I keep him well fed. Flame angels have always been one of my favorite fish though so I took the chance being that my tank is all softies and anemone's, I wouldn't put him in a high end SPS reef. Do you have shrimp in the tank? If only cleaner shrimp, one of the hawkfish family might be a good option. You could also look at many of the reef safe wrasse fish.
  18. Going to bump this up before I post up on RC later. I'm open to possible trades also.
  19. That sucks man, if you need anything don't hesitate to ask.
  20. I just had to share here since I'm like a kid on Christmas ans others look at me like I have ten heads when I talk about protein skimmers! Yesterday the skimmer I have always wanted to try came and it's awesome! The skimmer is a Bubble King mini 180. This thing is dead silent, with the exception of a slight vibration, you can't tell it's running. The build quality is very nice and it's built like a tank. Royal Exclusiv's packaging and documentation are very nice. They send you a laminated parts list for the skimmer and pump along with a manual that is full color and very well written. Here are a few pictures: It took a little work but it fit in my sump And this morning it was already pulling some nasty I'm kinda surprised I'm still alive after my wife saw our account but hey, you only live once!
  21. If you don't want to wait on one to be delivered or don't have Prime, you can buy them at BestBuy for the same price. I grabbed one today, thanks for the tip. My apex display died months ago so I have been leaving a tab open on my phone browser, this works better!
  22. I have this midsize desktop reactor I won't be using. It's in like new condition and I have everything except the manual. Here is some info: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FCEV5F8/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Asking $65 Thanks
  23. I found another Mp10 and may have a buyer for the Gyre. This thread can be closed. Thanks
