  1. My tank is 72X36X24. The MP60's are running about 70-80%. I have bare bottom, so no report on sand movement. I saw Jake Adams lecture and he likes gyre flow patterns. With these you can program for that. This mode will be made available on the 40's sometime in the future. Nice thing is only one pump is running (mine for 10 minutes), which saves electricity and lets the other pump cool down. Once you get used to the size it does not look that much different. You are welcomed to come over and take a look. Ken
  2. Kate, You need to get as much water out as possible first. Use good shop vac or carper cleaning company extractor. Then need to take up a corner of carpet and use high flow fans to get air under the carpet. If it was just fresh water it should be OK.
  3. Not all magnetic pulse start ballasts are HQI. (All HQI are magnetic and pulse start) HQI are higher output than the standard.
  4. The Radium 250W IS a HQI bulb. It is designed to be driven by a HQI ballast. Just connect a mogul socket to the ballast and off you go. The 400W Radium is designed to be driven at 360W and is therefore NOT a HQI bulb. Some do overdrive it with a HQI ballast because they like the look. If you do this you will shorten the life to around 6mo instead of the usual 12 mo.
  5. ORA Cali Tort? ORA Miami Orchid? Westside Tri Color? Not sure if these are classified as stags or not. Ken
  6. Hi Eric, You could try this fix if you think it is worth the time and energy. All the upgrades were done on the wet side. I am not aware of anything else that has been recommended for dry sides. Looks like the more you spend for the bearings the less noise the motor will make. Your milage may vary. Ken http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1901337
  7. Interested in the ORA Verde. Care to trade? ORA Purple plasma, ORA Miami Orchid, ORA Cali Tort, etc?? Ken
  8. That is about the same dimension of my tank. I use a Dart, but I also run my frag tank and supply skimmer. Returns to the tank are not open all the way (I have it split to 3). I sold my MP40's and use 2 MP60's, turned up to about 80% (?) max flow. Feel free to check out the tank if you like. Ken
  9. Afternoon bump. Anyone have contact information for Barelycuda or Finch? I think both these guys are electricians but possibly have not seen the post. Ken
  10. Thanks Randy. Still looking for someone who wants to make some quick cash. They had an electrician give a quote, but I would rather give the job to someone in the club,
  11. I have a very small job need before a house I am selling can close. The work is limited to the panel. Their electrician says, "The panel has incorrect connections on some wires and also incorrect handle ties on the top 3 240v breakers. Meaning one phase would shot off ("trip"), and one phase could possibly remain energized." I need to know if this guy is right and the work needs to be done, and if someone in the club would like to do the work. The home is in Troutdale, by Blue Lake, and I could meet you there. PM and we can discuss over the phone. Cash or frags. Ken
  12. I have some frogspawn , hammer, etc. Located in Ridgefield.
  13. I have two Vortec MP40w's for sale. They are gen 2 and wireless. Not the ES, because i did not need the other programs. Work great. Selling because I upgraded to the MP60 (2). $275 each for local. Will put on RC after a couple days for $300 shipped. Ken 503 807-6264
  14. Tank is 72X36X25. Starfire type glass on three sides (peninsula). They have a truck that they take to shows for delevery. They came to the NW about 4 years ago. I think the closest they usually come is Nevada, but check their delivery schedule. I think the cost was around $100 for the delivery. That is what sealed the deal for me. I wanted a glass tank and at that time the shipping ws over $1,000 for other mfg.
  15. I have a custom 250 that they made. Come take a look if you like. Ken
  16. I have a new bag of Carib Sea. Not sure the exact size...will be home tomorrow. Will sell for 1/2 the going LFS price.
  17. Edit. Look for the Mp40 to incorporate the longer period in upcoming upgraded software. Might take several months, but they told me they will be adding in the future. Ken
  18. Nothing that shows the plumbing. Mine goes through the floor and into a room next door, so it would not help you. I use a Dart pump that also feeds the skimmer, carbon reactor, and small frag tank. A Snapper would work and they now come with both impellers so you could switch to a Dart if you want. I am not a fan of "random" flow. Just a waste of energy. The gyre is more efficient and you can switch the MP60 on a longer period (10-15 min) as opposed to the Mp40, which is 1 min and too short.
  19. Is this a peninsula style or view from the front? Are you adverse to having the Vortecs both on one side wall (the 36")? If you can, It would be a perfect application of a gyre flow system. You could look at mine if you like. My tank is 68X36X25. I am upgrading from 2 MP40 to 2 MP60 for several reasons (group buy?) Where is the sump going to be? Below tank or next room? Ken
  20. I have several ORA and LE frags that could be fragged. If you want a pack you could come by and pick the corals you want. Located in Ridgefield (exit 14) just north of Vancouver. Ken 503 807-6264

    pH

Most of the time it is caused by the CO2 in the air from a tight house. Try running a air line from outside to your protien skimmer.
