    Help me

I would suspect your salinity is high. How do you test? Swing arm are known to be off sometimes.
  6. I will take it. I need a heater and the test kits will come in handy. My wife will be in Milwaukie tomorrow, Or I will pick up sometime soon. Ken
  7. I have a Mag 18 with a new impeller (never been in water). Asking $80. Located in Ridgefield. Ken
  8. I have as much neon green Sinularia as you could want. Also have a yellow leather that is in the process of splitting. Will not be ready for a little while, but it will be a big piece. Located in Ridgefield WA.
  9. 250 Radium are specked to run on HQI ballast (about 330W). 400 run on normal output (slightly less than 400W). Galaxy ballast will fire the bulbs, but are not the ideal ballast. Some have used HQI to overdrive the 400W, but the bulb life goes down considerably. The select-a-watt galaxy has a 250 hi setting, which is about 280W.
  10. The glass is to protect the fixture from salt splash. Keeps the shinny metal much cleaner. Not necessary (from a UV standpoint), but nice to have.
  11. Need a bigger car eh. Consider a Cadillac SRX with about same millage? 2004 (I think?). Even has the third row seating (soccer club car).
  12. I went to a lecture by Jake Adams on flow and he had some interesting points. Corals need flow in order to exchange gases and collect food. He did some experiments and the number you are looking for is 20cm per sec water movement (easily measured by watching a particle float by). He likes the Gyre flow concept, NOT random flow (wastes too much energy). Concept is simple...put your hand is a tub or large bowl. Move in a circle to get the water moving, then see how little energy it takes to keep the water moving. If flow is created in only one direction the corals will grow at an angle, so reversing the flow every 10-30 minutes is desirable. I have two MP60 on my 250 gal tank set at about 80% (you nay need 4...that is one big tank). One goes on to start the water moving, then after about 10 minutes the other kicks in reversing the flow. This is how he set up that 1200 gal tank in Denver. This is also why Ecotec changed their program capabilities on the MP60. Before you could only get a max of 1 minute ramp up, but Jake convinced them to change that.
  13. Most LPS do fine. You would stop the gfo. Carbon filter is OK, but not the same as carbon source (vodka, sugar, vinegar, vit c etc.). Also, forgot to mention the bacteria source (Zeobac). If you can get your Nitrates low and the gfo is working for you than you are already there. I started because gfo would lower my phosphates, but I could not get my nitrates below 20. I decided to either try nitrate reactor or Zeovit.
  14. Not Grassi, but I have been using Zeovit for about 4 years now. Basically it is a system to lower both nitrates and phosphates (UNLS). This is accomplished by dosing a carbon source (start3) twice a day and utilizing "Zeolites", which are rocks in a chamber. The rocks absorb ammonia (in theory....very disputed) and act as a surface for bacteria growth. The chamber is pumped twice per day to shake off the bacteria (mulum). Good skimmer is necessary. After the excess nutrients lower (nitrate<1 and phosphate <.05) you start adding all sorts of chemicals in little blue bottles to nourish the corals and tweak the colors. Go to: Zeovit.com LOTS of information there. You could read for days.....
  15. "Hi Ken, not sure of you noticed but you have to be a card carrying member to check the meter out..Pretty good excuse to get a membership though........ " I am a member. Paid at the Chinese restaurant meeting in Salem. Sounds like someone needs to upgrade the booking system.
  16. If you want a small frag I might be able to cut some of mine. Not home for a few days. Ken
  17. I have a used Mag 18 (with new impeller). $80 and it is yours. Ken
  18. PH drops when the lights go out. Reversing the light cycle evens out the effect on PH.

I do not use a controller. My BC is around 100/min. I refill my tank every 9-12mo?
  20. I would be interested, if they are still available. Have cash or can trade. Ken
