SuncrestReef
I know it's great to get things for free, but I'd like to try to encourage more PNWMAS members to consider signing up to be a paid Supporting Member of our club. I'm the club's Treasurer, so I know all the details of how we finance this endeavor. It requires about $1,800 per year for website hosting, business licensing, domain registration, insurance, and email processing to keep this place alive. None of our Officers or Board Members receive any compensation for our work to organize club meetings, provide awesome raffle prizes, and moderate these forums. We all do this out of the love for this hobby and our community. Becoming a paid Supporting Member costs only $24 per year for individuals, or $30 for a Family Membership. This money directly contributes to our ability to purchase raffle prizes and food/drinks at our monthly meetings as well as paying our annual expenses. As a Supporting Member, you will automatically receive one free raffle ticket at every monthly meeting (2 tickets for Family Memberships) as well as the opportunity to reserve the club's PAR meter, to participate in member-only group buys, growout competitions, and vote in the club officer & board member elections. We currently have 4,803 forum members, yet only 134 of you (only 2.8%) are paid Supporting Members. If you are interested in signing up to become a paid Supporting Member, the process is very easy. Saltfishlover
Agreed! I don't get to many of the events, but I still get the family membership every year! 5
obrien.david.j
The club generally does free beverages and food at every meeting (your membership $ spent), AND raffles all over the place. Who doesn't like winning things, and trust me, ticket sales regularly doesn't pay the cost of the big ticket items raffled. (your membership $ spent) Obviously there are basic monthly fees that have to be paid for too (like web hostings services), etc. No one gets paid for participating in club leadership. This is just minimal $ from each of us to keep us flexible and afloat. I checked and renewed my membership last month. I'm paid up.
wegotjs
Maybe we need to do some member only things that are really cool to get the non-members to really feel like they are missing out. I believe in the beginning a lot of the group buys were member only.
Kerbash
What is a group buy exactly? How is it normally organized? Do we do it with LFS? or what?

Typically a LFS will select a large coral colony and cut it up into 10-20 frags. Supporting club members can then buy the frags at a discounted price.
LavenderTi
I believe our last one was in September of last year. We did some favias or chalices, I don’t recall exactly.
wegotjs
I was thinking we should do a zoa or shroom purchase as we did in the old days. Find a vendor, local or web that has lots of high end varieties and do a group purchase.
LavenderTi
It’d be cool if we could poll supporting members to see where’s there enough interest.
