  1. Sixth Morning (Mon AM) I'm claiming Success! Yes, I'm sure there are aptasia spores still on the rock - but I've got a lot more rocks that need their big aptasia removed first. So today this rock gets cycled out for a new one from the tank (In case you're wondering what happened to Fifth morning...)
  2. Do you think there's something special about Klein's Butterfly eating aptasia, or ~Any Hungry butterfly?
  3. Third Morning (Fri AM) Looks like Aptasia are reducing It's funny. I think the shrimp can see the Red LED's. I use them to try and not disturb AM photos, get them in action. But they move off the rock as soon as I turn them on. And get skittish. BTW, they don't seem to pick Aptasia during daylight - So this frag tank lighting is OFF all day. (except photo times)
  4. Aptasia can go into my overflow plumbing, that is easy to deal with. I have filter socks before they enter the sump, and when plumbing needs to get sterilized, Its removable and can go into acid->bleach outside. Take the plumbing down for 4hrs, and Bingo - no Aptasia there any more. This includes each frag tank. Quick disconnect, tank into the driveway, sterilize/rinse/return. Done in a few times already.
  5. This is the first I've heard of the idea. Rocks in a copper bath, rinse (or soak) for a day?, and then back into the display tank. shouldn't I be afraid of copper attaching to the rock and releasing later, into main tank water?
  6. My Aptasia have gotten out of hand. I've applied added Filefish (2), a copper banded butterfly, and Berghia. Even added couple of peppermint shrimp... never to be seen again. (I suspect wrasses got them.) Filefish and CB butterfly aren't seeming to make a dent. In this case, I suspect my efforts to fight dinos (feeding the tank heavily to keep NO3/PO4 up) is countering efforts to reduce Aptasia. (keeping the fish fed, so they dont need to eat aptasia. AND keeping aptasia fed, and they reproduce faster). So I'm trying a different approach... Aptasia Death, by peppermint shrimp -- In an isolated tank Take couple dozen peppermint shrimp Put them in one of my frag tanks, connected to the main system, but empty Don't feed this tank, except... Move an Aptasia infested rock into this tank Death by hungry Peppermint Shrimp! I'll bring you along for the ride with regular pictures. UPDATE: If you want to jump to the conclusion - here's a direct link Shrimp Arrival (and some misc) Freshly Added Rock (Tues PM) - Looks pretty ugly First Morning (Weds AM) Second Morning (Thurs AM)
  7. Welcome Back! Few years (before Covid) we spent a week in Costa Rica. Visited Manuel Antonio national park. Those photos instantly reminded me of the tropical environment.

    New SPS pics

    Very Nice indeed!
  9. Atlanta. According to this site. https://www.touropia.com/largest-aquariums-in-the-world/
  10. I like the Acrylic base you added. I assume its for extra "tip over" support.
  11. Yup. Booster Pump included and auto flush cycles every X hours and on startup.
  12. Thanks. What you can't see is the high water and "low enough to start re-making RO" water sensors that came with it too. Instructions were to drill holes in side of RO tank, but I don't like holes. So built a PVC structure that hangs down Inside the tank to hold the sensors. Nice-n-clean, and not extra holes in the tank.
  13. Bump, you still out there? I haven't seen an answer to my PM.
  14. Happy New Year to you and your tank as well! A few years ago, my tank had degenerated into yuck and frustration. Patrick and the Salt Water Obsessions team helped revive it and keep my wife happy during an particularly busy 2 years of travel for me. Your tank is looking great!
  15. What did I do this holidays? I bought a new RO unit on black Friday, and installed it on new years weekend! I bought my Kent Hi-S ~50gpd unit some time in the 90's, and it's been in constant use ever since. I've replaced the membrane and cartridges multiple times, broke a cylinder from overtightening, and added an RO booster buddie (great addition, highly recommended). Punch line, I've gotten my monies worth out of this unit. But, my system is not bigger, would be nice to have more capacity, and also be nice to produce less waste water. (got some Large water bills last summer, which in fairness included watering the lawn/etc) So black Friday, I ordered a new fully automated, integrated, all the bells and whistles unit. Finished installation yesterday! SpectraPure® Mega MaxCap® Performance Plus™ 1:1 RO/DI System There was one interesting twist with this unit. It includes a dedicated 3/8" RO flush line (blue hose dangling), that does the flush with RO water, not incoming water. This is new to me. Out with the Old: In with the new! Thank you for your service!
  16. So how bad was it? Fire dept came. I see the orange glow on the back side of the tank. Did it progress further, into the structure? On my end, I found I have Ox-Guard. (while amazon delivers some super lube to compare with)
  17. We'll check it out over the holidays.
  18. It could have easily been a flawed part, OR a corroded connection/cheap connector. But it "says" it was 15A rated. Not any more, that's for sure.
  19. 15A. I think the two heaters are 200-250-300 watt range each. (they're two different brands) Eheim and Finnex
  20. My simple answer, I can't tell. I don't think any saltwater got into the connection, but at the same time I don't think the heater is broken and drawing THAT many amps. The EB832 shows the outlet peaking around 600W (~<6A @ 110v), and there's two heaters plugged in. (via green plug) So I don't THINK it was too much. But I can't tell.
