  1. All,

If you intend to post anything for sale in our forums, please remember the rules:

    1. If you are intending to SELL something, place your ad in the Classified Threads subforum, not in the General or in the Want to Buy / Trade subforum.
    2. You must list a price for each item.

Your ad will not be approved and will remain hidden from the forum users until it meets the requirements and is approved by a Moderator.

Please follow these rules.  Each of us Moderators are constantly needing to remind people who post without following the rules, and it is time consuming.  Remember, we are only volunteers here and are not compensated in any way for our time.

Full details on the rules are listed here:

So, it sounds like folks are thinking about fresh albacore, Rockfish fish and chips, oysters from just upriver and other righteously fresh and delicious seafood rather than potluck. And who can blame them? As long as you're on the coast, why not tuck into the ocean's bounty?

So, should I not bring the grill, charcoal and accelerant? Up to you folks, really. I'm good either way. Just want to make sure that I cover my host responsibilities properly.

Please let me know this evening so I can plan accordingly in the morning. See you soon!

The wife & I plan to have brunch before the meeting, then we have reservations for dinner at 6pm, so we'll skip the put luck to save our appetites.

This is the world-famous SuncrestReef Apex-controlled Red Sea Reefer XL 425 as documented in my detailed Reef2Reef build thread, and the system that I referenced when I wrote my highly popular series of Apex tutorial articles.

The original retail price for all of this equipment was over $12,000.  I am offering the complete system for sale at a steeply discounted package price of $4,000.  If it is not sold within two weeks, I will consider parting out the individual components.  However, the pricing on this complete package will be substantially better than buying the individual components.

The Apex has been reset to factory defaults and will need to be programmed from scratch, but I can provide a copy of the complete configuration for reference.

$4,000 for the complete system.  Cash or PayPal.  You pick up at my house in Beaverton.

Here's a photo and video of the tank at its peak:

    Hey folks!

At long last, I have finally dropped the piano and am responding to this thread. Couple things:

    1. I can't tell you all how much I'm looking forward to hosting a meeting and seeing you all again.

    2. Some necessary changes have taken place since the last time I hosted a meeting. Chiefly, reservations are now required to visit the Visitor's Center, primarily to control the number of people in the VC at any one time due to OSU's COVID protocols. Also, there is a modest $3 per person fee. This is something that we've been thinking about for a long time in order to staff the VC properly and implement some much-needed exhibit improvements, which are an ongoing process.

Website for reservations can be found here:

    https://seagrant.oregonstate.edu/visitor-center

Since the meeting doesn't begin until 12, please feel free to reserve your spots anytime before then and tour the VC at your leisure.

Although we love dogs around HMSC, they will not be allowed on campus for the meeting.

Feel free to reach out with any other questions about this meeting. I'll see you all soon!

I booked my reservation.  Simple process.

  5. One more note about the Aux power adapter: It can be used to power the Apex base unit if you don’t own an EnergyBar.  In this configuration the Apex would only be used to monitor an aquarium, but not actually control any devices.

    Hi John,

I was looking at your diagram on this tutorial and noticed you have the Apex plugged into a wall outlet using the Auxiliary Power Adapter - wouldn't it be powered off in the event of a power outage (since it's not plugged into the UPS)?  Or will it still get power from the Aquabus line from the EB832?  Thanks!

If you read the tutorial carefully, I explain that the aux power adapter is how the Apex detects when the power fails.  The aux adapter is an optional component purchased separately because the Apex is normally powered through the AquaBus cable plugged into the EnergyBar.  In this configuration, the EnergyBar is plugged into the UPS battery, so when the power goes out the EnergyBar still has power, but the Aux power adapter goes dead, so the Apex knows there’s a power outage.

Think of it this way:  the aux power adapter is not being used to power the Apex, but instead acting as a sensor.
