  1. Here goes: 75 gallon display. 29 gallon sump. Flow: Medium. Hydra wave controller adds alternation, plus a sea swirl Lighting: Hydra 52's. 40% intensity. Water Change: 5 gallon bucket twice a week. Carbon Dosing: 3mL of Vodka in the morning and night. Phosphate: .04 Nitrate: 2 ppm KH: 8.5 Mg: 1440 Ca 420 Fed: Every other day is Red Sea Energy, the opposite is BRS Reef Chili. Location: Near sandbed, on a rock. Length: 7/8 inch Height: 1/2 inch Added some sugar sand a couple days ago and it doesn't seem to want to come out, but it will. Also, got some hair algae starting, but it seems that it is fairly hardy.
  2. Hey everyone, Here are some of the goodies I am willing to trade. Most of them were fragged in the last couple days. Should look better in a couple weeks. Two heads: Part of this one: Three duncans with about 3-5 heads each, also that zooanthid: Some of this birdsnest: I am looking for sticks of all types. Small sticks, round stick, colored sticks, sticky sticks.
  3. Triton is such a cool idea. I would love to do it one day. Kind of makes you wonder what "really" is in your aquarium.
  4. How do you fix a leak in that big of a tank? I imagine you can't get it in and out of the house.
  5. I was confused with what you were asking. Thanks for clearing it up. Now I understand what you are trying to do. Saving water is definitely a good idea. I know RODI units waste a lot, unless caught and re-purposed. I've never heard of people using a permeate pump for their RODI unit, but it sounds like a good idea. I am going to tag along and see what people say.
  6. Welcome! Let's see some pics.
  7. Can I ask why you think you need a pump? I am confused. As long as it isn't working against gravity, I thought pressure would be enough for almost any distance.
  8. *Bump* I wasn't going to bump this again, but I can't find a used wireless controller anywhere. Amazon, ebay, google, they just don't exist. Almost like someone out there bought them all, just so I can't have one (badxgillen). Just kidding, but really. I have searched far and wide for a new/used controller for the AI Hydra 52's. None seem to exist. Can any of you help me find one? Most places seem out of stock. Technically, I think this is what I am looking for: AI MK II Wireless Controller or the AI Director. EDIT: Or a healthy alternative.
  9. I think you also need to figure out the problem. Just grounding the tank doesn't eliminate the problem. Just turn them off one by one.
  10. I haven't had time to post pictures of this event, but it so much fun that I just had to. Outside Tanks: Public area (Reefer Madness): Behind the scenes aquarium: Seahorse breeding: Awesome lion fish: Clownfish babies: Giant Pacific Octopus (badxgillen): I think it was rotifers, algae and brine shrimp: Jellyfish: Hang-on the back filter: Fish: Many more fish: Caviar anyone? : If you get a chance to go out to the Hatfield aquarium, make it happen. It will be well worth it.
  11. If you rewire them, I think something to be aware of is the difference of voltage and amperage. There are many foreign plugs that require different amps and volts. If they are the same, go for it. Just be careful. Another option would be to buy an all-in-one adapter. They exist and are cheap. https://www.google.com/#q=foreign+plug+adapter+all+in+one&safe=off&tbm=shop
  12. Looks like precipitation to me or maybe coralline?
  13. I haven't thrown filter floss in my overflow, but I have done cloth or a passive activated carbon mesh bag. It seemed to work. Changing return flow can help quite a bit too. Usually raises the height of the water in the overflow enough to quiet it down. Algae growth can quiet it down too. I like to let a fair amount grow in my overflow. Seems to limit growth in the tank.
  14. I remember being on a field trip and a person coming back with mushrooms looking like this. They are Morels. They tend to come from areas that had a forest fire or are burned regularly. Nummy stuff.
  15. That is an awesome deal. In reality, I think the idea shouldn't cost too much. Glad to see it is becoming cheaper.
  16. I had to take a break from doing homework, so I came up with this scheme to test if water is good after three weeks: The plan is to acid wash everything for 24 hours and RODI rinse the containers when done. I'll test the parameters listed in duplicate and spread the volume into six containers. Three of which are heated for the entire time, three which are not heated and left to warm and cool to the ambient temperature of my garage. They will all be saran wrapped around the lids to prevent any exchange with the surroundings. After a week, I will pull the buckets and measure all the parameters. and do it for the other buckets as time goes by. I would do twice as many buckets for more data points, but I don't have that many buckets. So...I will stick with what I have. No need to go overboard. Also, I am waiting for a new test kit before I start. My alkalinity is down to it's last few drops. Should be here in a week. In addition, I was thinking about heating up the ambient buckets after I measure it's parameters. This would allow me to see if pH or Alk change with the increase of temperature after sitting for a while. Any ideas?
