  1. I hope this can be as informative as it is funny. Looking back, what was a beginner question that you asked, that you would now find funny? Maybe it was because you were new to reefing or just didn't understand the concept. What was it?
  2. There is all sorts of stuff that could cause this. A picture might help, but it would be sad to post. Although, it would help if you list the parameters in the tank. It is so hard to target this stuff. Have you seen the other fish picking on the clown?
  3. You should have looked at how many miles it had... ...then see if the key worked. Hehe. Just kidding.
  4. +1. Burning Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) produces some of the worse carcinogens known. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chlorinated_polycyclic_aromatic_hydrocarbon Just do it outside. We've all burned plastic and know probably isn't good to inhale.
  5. Are those your current tanks or back in SoCal? Because they are "da bomb"
  6. How long did it last you? I have never painted anything inside the tank. It has always been the back panel, which never directly touches water.
  7. Shrimps are important!!! They each have their own purpose and that is how you should gauge them...but in my novice opinion: cucumbers ≤ shrimps ≤ sand stars ≤ crabs ≤ snails < hitch hiker worms (Not AEFW or Fireworms) I tend to buy them as I notice problems in my tank.
  8. I think Animal House is a reasonable place to start. Dale knows a lot and he has all the cleanup crews you need. Snails for the sand, snails for the rocks, hermits, sand stars and crabs are the most common. I think if you are looking for bulk, you should head up north to the many fish stores in Salem and Portland area. A lot of them have bulk deals.
  9. No problem. I am happy to let you borrow it.
  10. 72 ppm on the outskirts of town. Air, Water and Ice might send you one with your order. They did for me.
  11. Good choice. I've heard those permeate pumps are pretty great to have. Let me know how it goes. Since you are in Corvallis, if you need any RODI until then. Just PM me. I'll give you as much as you want.
  12. I think it depends on your local water. If you have high TDS water, they will run out a bit quicker. I think it also depends on the efficiency you want. I have had mine about 3-4 years off of city water that comes in about 70 TDS (3-stage). My efficiency from the input/output has gone down over time, but it hasn't reached the 90% advised to exchange them. I think they do 92%. Which one you looking at?
  13. Kim...Holly...gotta tone it down. This isn't the place for having fun.
  14. Most glass shops. They also sell some pretty decent ones on Amazon.
  15. He's right. Deionized water makes the water pH = 7. Reverse Osmosis removes any dissolved solids from the water. In many cities, the TDS runs pretty low and you could probably just get away with just using DI water. I think the DI water in our lab runs at 30 ppm, which really isn't too bad. No RO. Some cities have extreme copper problems or are using well water and RO might be more important, but I think in most big cities it probably isn't too much of a problem to just run DI. RODI water is actually bad to drink. Since there are no salts in the water, any salt in your body will try to fill the "space" left from the RODI water, ultimately depleting any salts in you body. That's why most water bottles have Calcium Chloride orPotassiumn Chloride added to them to compensate for this problem. Save the money and wait to get a full RODI system. You won't regret it. Air, Water and Ice has a lifetime warranty. Maybe use local fish store water or go and buy a large DI container from the grocery store. Most have very, very low TDS, even though they are not RODI.
  16. Also, the Tanks for Teachers tank was "da bomb." There was a lot of hard work put into that tank and I want to thank everyone that put it together.
  17. Whoo! Glad to hear that the ORE got you on the forum. There is a lot that this club has to offer and I hope to continue seeing you around. Located in Corvallis.
  18. This was a killer event. Thank you Rudy, and thank you everyone for making this happen. Now let's see some corals.
  19. I really appreciate the closing thread notice. Thank you for everything you do for the forum and club.
