  1. I was thinking more the bubble chamber where the bubbles go up the cylinder before coming out in the collection cup.
  2. I heard about this. I guess it's affecting the oyster industry and killing a lot of the baby and spawn
  3. I might be interested. What is the website for them?
  4. LOL.....I might do that. It's an aquac EV240 and I put a MAG12 on it so it should have enough turnover into it and foam production. I just might try your trick with the gelatin. Do most of you wipe the inside of the tube every once in a while? I know the manual recommends it. As for the flow, do you think an additional MP40 along with the 2 K4 and the flow from the return be enough??
  5. I think the skimmer is working well. Odd thing is that the majority of the timeit gets a good head of foam and sometimes it doesn't seem to want to make any and the bubbles are only about an inch above the water. Not sure if that's just due to lack of "stuff" in the water or if there is something wrong. As for the flow, do you think adding one MP40 would be sufficient along with the current 2 K4s?
  6. Well I took a turkey baster last night to some of it and sucked up as much as I could get with it. It just looked waaaaaaaaay too ugly for my tastes. So if the outbreak is a result of my tank just being new, does anybody know of a good way to find out if it's due to excess nutrients or part of the natural cycle?
  7. I'm a little unfamiliar with the Vortech. So do controllers come with the $350 price? Can you put multiple units onto one controller?
  8. I think Joel(Waves) has some as ell
  9. Well the K4s are hooked up to a wavemaker. Maybe I'll sell it down the line but don't have the $$ right now to upgrade the entire powerhead system
  10. my main tank is 210 and the sump is ~30. So with a Snapper(2500 GPH) pump and 2 K4, does that sound about right?
  11. I've heard that increasing the magnesium level to 1500 helped some people. Has anybody else tried that here?
  12. I'm not sure to be honest. I worry about too much flow but I'm not sure if I have enough either. I have 2 K4 powerheads on opposite sides of the tank on a 72" tank and also the return which are also two. One of them I have facing down towards the bed and the other facing up. They are both hooked up to a snapper and when I move my hand away from the nozzle more than 2 feet away, I don't really feel anything it seems. Plus the rock work probably blocks some flow I'm sure.
  13. LOL.....yeah maybe it's time to start the schmoozing.
  14. The annoying thing is that I don't feel that I've been feeding that much. I only feed the 3 clowns, wrasse, and RBTA once every 3 days with some DIY fish food from Westside. The only other thing I feed is the Soho and Yellow tang with a small 3" x 2" sheet of dried nori every day. Could some of the nutrients be from the Palys, mushroom, and zoas when they let off slime?
  15. Unfortunately my camera kind of sucks and can't take pictures that closely. Does Cyano have air bubbles on them or is that just something that Dinos have?
  16. Can somebody tell me how to tell the difference between Cyano and DinoF algae? I don't want to misdiagnose the algae problem I have since I assume the remedy for either one is somewhat different.
  17. That sounds like a good idea. I'll give it a try. Does anybody know if Rose City has a Hanna?
  18. hmm......well the reason I wanted it was to get a sensitive enough reading to show a decrease in PO4 as opposed to knowing what the exact PO4 level is. I'm looking more for a trend in movement of the PO4 level as opposed to knowing spot on what the number is. The API tests that came with the set just aren't sensitive enough since it jumps from the o to 0.25 reading.
  19. How do you kill them if they spread onto another rock? Do you inject Kalk into them like Aptasia?
  20. I don't suppose you would be interested in selling the test would you? I probably don't need a full one
  21. Yeah, Tim is getting me a Mg one as well Mark. Remember we were talking about it when we talked at his shop on Saturday? I've been thinking about getting a Phosphate one because I want to monitor the levels as I start dosing a carbon source.
  22. What's a Hanna? Unfortunately SWF and Upscales is a little too far to drive to get water tested(plotting)
  23. It sounds like the water is creating a suction perhaps due to an increased elevation of the tank to the sump??? Is the return water returning directly underneath the water or out to some open air before splashing into the sump water??? If it's the first, I would suggest drilling some holes into the pipe to break the vacuum action or bring the return water area to above the water to break the suction action
  24. It's very similar to what happens when you don't adjust your Duraso standpipe correctly. You'll get this "flushing" kind of noise like your flushing your toilet. The water will rise up and then "flush" and it'll keep repeating itself until you allow more air to get in. This could be caused by the bend in the tube.
  25. Does anybody know what LFS currently carry them on their shelves right now? Need a Phosphate and possible a Nitrate one.
