So I've heard a few differing opinions on placement of coral for coloring and would like to see what the general consensus is in the community. Do you place a coral higher to get a lighter coloring in the coral or do you place it lower and vice versa? For instance, I have a birdsnest that when I originally got it was a light pink color that I placed high up since I was under the impression that if you wanted the lighter colors you placed the coral higher up contingent upon if the coral can withstand the higher light exposure of course. Now it's turn a dark brownish color. I don't believe it's browning out since there is great polyp extension and the sucker is growing like crazy.

Well I guess the secret is out! LOL

Now, now......I get first dibs for being the first to ask about them(laugh)

My first SPS was a birdsnest and it's growing like gangbusters since I got it back in December. I have two other birdsnest as well and they are doing great! I get at least 2mm of growth each month I would say.

Any luck tracking down some of those strawberry shortcake acros? LOL

How do you frag xenia? Do you just yank them? or do you take a scalpel to them and cut them near the bottom?

Did you notice the lack of eating before it was doing the split?

I hoping Jody throws in a few Aptasia(knock on wood) so I can jump start a population in my tank. (laugh) Heck, let's go for the whole ball of wax and throw in some flatworms and red bugs while we are at it. Might as well nuke the entire tank if you can get the tri-fecta!

Has anybody here ever had a RBTA change it's mind about splitting? My RBTA quit eating a couple weeks back and then last week I was looking at it and noticed that I could see through the mouth to the rock underneath the RBTA. Naturally I thought it was going to split. But a day or two later, it just seems to have rejoined and now you can just see inside the mouth to it's usual insides when it's pooping. The RBTA still doesn't want to eat but it hasn't lost any of it zooxanthelle and isn't bleaching out. It's attached to the rock it's on very firmly and opens up fully when I look at it in the morning when the lights haven't come on. It's still pooping which is really odd when I think about it since it hasn't accepted any food in the last couple of weeks.

LOL.....I remeber when I first was setting up my tank and mistook a few manjino for Zoas!DOH! A week later when I found out what they were I went on a search and destroy mission. Whenever I saw one, I would take out the rock and put a little candle with a flame on it to turn them to a crisp! At the time, my tank was cycling so I didn't have any livestock in the tank at the time so it wasn't too bad. Ended up burning off 6 or 7 of them. There are probably still a few in the tank hiding somewhere and they rear their heads every once in a while.(threaten)

Never thought of doing it that way. I just feed my other fish/corals first which usually triggers the sun corals to come out if it's not their usual time to come out. I feed the fish until they have had their fill and then put some food around the sun coral tentacles which they grab onto. Not too bad I thought. They are pigs though. I saw one take this big piece of shrimp and he ended up looking like a small marble!

You thinking about throwing in a frag of the Flamethrower Chalice? J/K (laugh)

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll go the plastic route then. I've seen the plastic ones for sale at Westside but the plastic blade always seemed to me not to have enough stiffness for scraping. I'll give it a try then. Do you know if they make the long handled ones in a plastic blade as well?

(laugh) Well you can't blame me for being glad it wasn't the piece your going to sell me! Sorry to hear about the loss of that frag though. It looked really nice. Is the other thicker piece ok then? By the way, what is that other piece on that same disc?
