  14. We are down-sizing before retirement and staying in the area. I'm excited about doing a new build or two, especially after seeing Holly's tanks yesterday.
  15. We are selling our house this Spring and I am taking down my 500 gallon tank. I will be selling the corals and fish and then most of the huge collection of tanks and equipment I have collected over the last 7 years. I will be coming up with a list of the corals and fish first. I will try to get pictures up also. I am keeping my new OCB tank and related equipment, so I can set up a tank in our new home. I not leaving the hobby!
  16. I have a GEO 612 to sell. I have a regulator and some other parts also.
  17. Sodium carbonate is the same as soda ash or baked baking soda. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. The bi part means it has an additional hydrogen atom which is removed by heating. Hydrogen atoms dissolved in water increase the acidity of the water. BRS sells 5 gallon or smaller pails of soda ash and they have instructions for mixing up the solution, including amounts needed to increase the alkalinity of your tank volume.
  18. I would run 2 Workhorse 7s for 4 bulbs. The ballast will power them , but I have gone through a few of the ballasts after running 2 110W VHO bulbs on them.
  19. I put 1/2 " Starboard around the outside of my tank and then added sand. That way when a bare spot was created in the sand, you wouldn't see the black shelf underneath. I forgot to put a white piece of plastic under the tank. For my new tank build I am putting 1/4" Starboard in and epoxying a thin layer of sand on top. This will get coated with coralline algae if constantly exposed, so I am adding an inch of sand. Then when the sand gets moved away in a spot there will still be some sand showing. I will have to be sure to cover up the spot before coralline algae has time to develop.
  20. The good skimmers are rated by bio-load. If you don't feed much, there isn't as much to remove from the water. Most skimmers are over-rated by the manufacturer and I agree that over-skimming is more of an urban myth.
