  1. Holly (Gil&Fin) has several build threads with some great pics - you can find them if you check out her content. Bert also took a couple of pics that are in the post January meeting thread. Definitely worth going through the build threads - her system is quite impressive and really nicely done. Beautiful display tank plus a couple of linked frag tanks and a really nice fish only (sort of).
  2. Lots of good suggestions and advice on here. If there is one really simple thing I have learned, whether you prefer lots of rock or a more minimalist look, is to avoid symmetry. This gets to the golden ratio talk linked above but is an even more simplistic rule of thumb that I find helpful. It may not make sense at first but, as you experiment a bit, you will probably find that the asymmetric arrangements (Like PowderBlue's above) will "wear" better in the long run and you will be less likely to find yourself tearing things up and starting over. I ignored this in one of my builds and regretted it for a long time after!
  3. That Goni is really gorgeous, too bad it's a killer. Looks like it's well isolated now. Good thing you have a big tank Daniel!
  4. Thanks for taking and sharing the pics Bert! I appreciate seeing who I missed out talking to because I was too distracted with Holly's amazing system ????
  5. I wanted to give a shout out to Greg, Scott, Bert Kim and Holly for the great frags. Things are acclimating in their new home right now. Much appreciated everyone!
  6. Thanks so much for hosting Holly. It was great to see everyone as well as your stunning system. Sorry we kept you so busy at the frag tanks!
  7. Ha! Seems likely... they could float around in the fish only tank tempting the angels with a snack.
  8. Hey Bert, Kim, Greg and Scott - just wanted you all to know that I might be a bit late getting to the meeting tomorrow. Need to take my mom out for her weekly grocery shopping first. I will definitely make it though... don't want to miss out on seeing Holly's setup or the frags! Thanks again for the offers - you all are the best! Looking forward to it.
  9. I also was wondering how this would work. Very cool though! Thanks Jeff!
  10. Wow! You had some spectacular coral colonies in there. Gorgeous tank!
  11. Glad to see you are getting your new DT going! I'm envious of the separate sump room... wish I could have had a way to do that instead of cram everything into the stand. Nice spot for a cube footprint.
  12. Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it Cody - I was looking forward to meeting you.
  13. These are the dimensions of the tank I have now as well and am quite pleased. I came from a 24 inch wide tank and was worried about the loss of depth but have been surprised by what you can do with some careful rock placement. Like you, the extra width was going to be a problem based on where we had to put it. Enjoy!
  14. I see lots of interesting stuff in there... guess I better come prepared.
  15. Hi Scott - yeah, it is all eagle eye on that rock. They have been spreading a bit so if you ever need any back you know where you can get them! I would be thrilled with anything you want to part with. Never used to keep a lot of zoos (although had some cool blues ones) but have really enjoyed these. Thanks!
  16. That would be sweet Kim! I am more than happy to have anything you are willing to offer.
  17. That would be awesome Greg - love all of those! Thanks guys!
  18. Hey Bert - that would be super cool. I have always been partial to all types of SPS but honestly am not that picky. Never had any of the "designer" corals in my mixed reefs before - just picked things based on variety of color and shape. Probably the most high-end piece I ever had was some Oregon Tort from Souta's. Just to give you some context, acans and scolis were just starting to become a thing when I had to tear my last tank down! Yeah, I'm dating myself here...
  19. Hey all - I am just starting from scratch so have nothing for trade but if anyone has unclaimed frags they might want to part with let me know. I am planning to be there and looking to start introducing coral into the tank. It's been up and running for 4 months or more now and Ca-reactor is online, refugium back online (now that the leak is fixed) and coraline algae spreading rapidly so figure it's time to take the leap. There is a small colony of eagle eye zoas that came on a piece of starter rock from Scott that have been going since almost the start of the build so at least I know I can keep something alive! Thanks!
  20. Very impressive that you were able to leave your system on its own for that long with no problems - speaks to how much thought you have put in to the setup... and the stability inherent in such a large water volume relative to your tank size. Definitely will be following the progress and expect to seem some impressive coral in there!
  21. That is so cool. Love that Fred and Ginger took to it right away. Awesome!
  22. Oh man - that is sad news. Sorry to hear it came down.
  23. Are you going to leave any for the rest of us Holly? Haven't been able to make it in for a few weeks so maybe this weekend is the time?
