  1. nice. I will have to start keeping my eyes out for good prices on tix. any good tips for looikg online? any secret websites maybe i havent visited?
  2. LOL......(naughty):D;) I agree with that! I will even give you the money to buy yourself like 5-6 40 breeders in exchange. You could even do it "Autzen" style and tailgate in the AM with brats and beer waiting for the store to open on the first day of the sale! (joking of course) but have fun in hawaii! i have a buddy stationed there and keeps bugging me to visit this winter. how good are ticket deals just out of curiosity?
  3. I second the opinions above. I have heard multiple LFS owners say that owning a LFS store took the fun out of the hobby for them. most of them say that after working on store tanks and maintenance accts all day they dont want to mess with thiers at home. but there are a few diehards who cant get enough. Its a rough business to get into because, like any hobby, its really a niche business and seems dependent on a good steady economy to make any money unless you have an extremely loyal and established customer base. seems like alot of the profits to be had in the biz are doing tank maintenence for others. I dont want to discourage you either but maybe stop by a couple of your LFS in portland and kick the idea around with them . Maybe they can give you some insight into what kind of efforts they have to put in on a daily basis to keep things profitable. good luck.
  4. I got a cheapo skimmer from albany aquariums but the collection cup is small and has overflowed 2 times. what kind of bit do i need and what kind of bulkhead/fitting to run an airline drain out of the cup? I am assuming the cup is acrylic like the skimmer body. all help is appreciated. thanks.
  5. we jsut cant name names about stores. IF however someone reading these posts about thier particular stores' prices and takes offense......well then maybe they should look at thier suppliers for thier higher costs than thier competitors? I still think several LFS in a common area (portland, eugene, etc.) should be able to work together to gain more leverage from the suppliers and get lower prices for thier customers, more instock items for customers, and probably higher profit margins for themselves. just a nutty little idea. I know 3 LFS here in vegas go together for tanks from an LA manufacturer to save themselves shipping costs.
  6. i got one here in vegas that is kinda fun to rip apart. 3 green shrooms on a small rock = $75.00 (nutty) 4 BROWN duncans (small) = $225.00 (whistle) GSP frag (1"x1") 50-75 bux. depends which employee you ask. lol (nutty) condy anenome = $75.00 (laugh) brown button polyps ( they call them chocolate desires! LOL) $85.00 (flame) and the list goes on and on..... dont even get me started on fish and inverts. ($6 for a nassarius snail? lol) oh yah, and LR thats plain ol' fiji boulder lumps with no corraline or shapes = $9-$11 a pound......hahaha (nutty)(enforcer)(scratch)(sad) and this is WITH the wholesalers 6 hours away in L.A........Can anyone say PRICE GOUGING? lol (laugh)(laugh)(laugh)(laugh)
  7. that skimmer is SIIIICCCCKKKK......if I could explain to my wife WHY i need to spend that much on a skimmer it would be sold already......lol good luck with the sale anyway.
  8. are you asking if its possible to over-stock your tank with corals? if so then not really. as long as your corals all get along and dont attack each other and you are able to keep the water parameters to the liking of your inhabitants then you can do what you want pretty much. Many people have some amazing tanks either stuffed with SPS or with LPS and softies. some mix the hard and soft corals but thats a little more challenging as the SPS like alot more flow than the softies generally require. and SPS generally require cleaner water than the zoas etc.
  9. i will probably with the 2 part as it has worked so far.
  10. ok sweet. i will order one then. Im going to use a rubbermaid container that I can put 10 gal in. thinking about tossing a mj1200 in there to mix up some kalk in the future too. but my 2 part has worked well so far. Just too much evap for me. I evap a gallon or a gallon and a half every day. but theres 0% humidity here and its 108 degrees this time of year. plus halide with open top doesnt probably help. lol
  11. how far will an aqualifter pump? I need to go from the floor up into the back chamber of my biocube thats on a 36" stand. total height would be like 5 ft.
  12. So I am going out of town for a week and need to get an ATO. I am ordering the JBJ unit and it says i need a pump to run it. anyone running one of these? what pump do I use? I got to pump up about 4-4.5 feet into the tank. I was thinking a maxijet 900. will this be ok? thanks! (scratch)
  13. have the actinics come on for 8-10 hrs a day and the daylights for 6-8. either way get 2 timers and have actinics on 1 hour before daylights (dawn effect) and then on for an hour after (dusk effect) and like dsoz said keep the moonlights on all the time. it wont hurt anything.
  14. I dont see why the 40b would be excluded. find someone that works there that has a handheld pricing computer and see what deals you come up with. Two years ago I picked up (3) 40 stretch hex oceanic tanks for 40 bux each. computer error. lol. the tanks were normally like 250 bux. As far as I know its all standard shaped rectangle aquariums up to 55g. hope its right. thinking about starting a 40breeder with a 40 breeder for sump/fuge project.
  15. yeah u can but the glass is so thin theres a good chance of breaking it. good luck with it and let us know how it turns out!
  16. the store in albany always has great deals on salt. i dont know what brand tohugh. maybe someone else can chime in

  20. lol....yeah the xenia and kenya tree grow like weeds. I cant give the stuff away. I end up throwing it away. be back in oregon by end of august with free xenia and kenya tree frags.
  21. Well I decided I will post some pics of my Biocube 29 thats been running since october. First pics from new setup are with a camera and the recent ones are with a camera phone so please excuse the bad pics as I have lost my cord to connect to computer. before..... and now......
  22. use the krylon fusion. I used it in my old 40 gallon and once dry it was fine for the water.
  23. get 2 koralia 1's on opposte sides of the tank. good flow for that size tank.
  24. besides....it truly was a tongue in cheek statement.....lol although people will buy almost anything off ebay.
