  1. Ok so i just picked up an acrylic 60 gallon cube with external overfow box. going to run a mag 7 as my return but before I fill it for the first time im thinking of drilling it for 1 drain in the back and 4 returns for a closed loop. my questions are is a closed loop worth it for a non sps dominated tank or should I just stick with my koralias? and what pump would you reccomend for this? I was told around 1000 gph was what I should shoot for but looking for second opinions. thanks for input. will get pics up when I finish the stand and start the build.
  2. looks like the utes COULD beat oregon state though huh? I never said that Utah looked like a national title contender. I think they are a good team that can play with almost anyone in the country. the parity in college football is awesome. USC beat the snot out of THE ohio state university (LOL) and then turns around and get beat by oregon state. does that mean that oregon state would beat ohio state by a wide margin? probably not. And now Utah has beaten oregon state but barely sneaked past washington. week to week preparation is so key in college football.
  3. I dont think either team will come out with a win this weekend. I think the ducks (if the defense plays well) have a shot at makinga game of it but i think USC has too many weapons and will be pissed. Utah is really good this year and I dont know if the beavs can pull another shocker out of thier hat.
  4. yep. tubeastrea. sun coral. require direct feeding and lower light area as they are non-photosynthetic.
  5. unfortunately its not a gimmick. its a reality in college football today and the biggest trend. most of the teams are running it or some variation of it. the only trade-off of the spread vs. a traditional power game is hurt qb's vs hurt rb's. if a qb doesnt want to run the spread hes really limited to what college he can play for. most of the big conferences (Pac-10, SEC, Big 12, etc..) have at least half thier teams running it. You look at schools that are in the big 10 and in the smaller conferences that are getting shellacked by defenses its cuz they are running a traditional 2 rb, 2-3 wr set. its all in cycles. just like the power I came into popularity 25-30 years ago and now isnt used too much. eventually there will be a new "hot" offense to run.
  6. if you cant find a buyer maybe stop off at another members house and donate it to the clubs tanks for teachers program? since the clubs a nonprofit maybe you could even get a board member to send you a receipt? at least then you would get a tax writeoff for your parents out of the deal.
  7. If you really want xenia gone either lower your salinity in your main tank or transfer to another tank where you can give it low salinity. My salinity dipped to way down and it melted in a matter of a week.
  8. 4" fans are a good size. depends on heat. u might not need them at all but better keep an eye on your temps when you first get the tank wet so you can adjust your ventilation
  9. I would do 1 at each end with the airflow going across the MH. that way you got air coming in and going out.
  10. that sucks. could have been old age. if the other fish have no issues then thats my guess.
  11. whats your ventilation for the hood? may want to drill a couple round holes in back with a holesaw and install a couple fans in there.
  12. Big game by oregon state today. congrats beavs. nice job sticking with it oregon! offense couldnt do too much passing but the running game finally wore down that purdue d. hopefully roper isnt out too long. and i kinda wonder if chris harper can actually pass the ball? they only ran running plays with him in the game and purdue knew it. Why didnt bellotti use Masoli as the backup then? oh well. a wins a win, and a win on the road is a good thing. up next: Boise State.
  13. heres a cheap skimmer that works. seen one in person. not the prettiest but its under the stand anyhow right? http://www.reefworkshop.com/DIY_proteinskimmer1.htm
  14. yes....lets see pics.....i may be interested as I may be picking up a cube tank soon....
  15. when al davis passes away sad to say. he needs to just sit back and let the people he pays all taht money to make his personnel decisions. Hes like a really old kid with football cards picking his favorite players at each position and putting them together. or a fantasy football geek. just because the people were great individually doesnt mean they will be a good team.
  16. welcome from me as well! I am still living in las vegas though and used to live in eugene/springfield area....lol were u a member of the vegas reef club? maybe we met before...
  17. I also dont believe the LFS are "gouging" or "pillaging" anyone. I think the markup is minimal. I dont see any LFS owner cruising around in Mercedes and if the business was that lucrative then the amount of LFS closing thier doors in the last few years would be far less.
  18. I guess the difference is you wouldnt know the coral was from that particular sale. If a sponsor buys, for example, a good sized rainbow monti colony and frags it for sale as individual pieces, then you really wouldnt have any idea that was the same coral or proof to accuse that it is. I personally would be really offended if I were a LFS owner and someone came into my shop accusing me of doing such a thing without any actual proof. Its not like coral have a serial # on them. If he buys a colony that for $50.00 that would be worth $200 in the average LFS, and then frags it into 4 pieces and sells each for $50, then the item is still $200 right? hes not gouging, just taking advantage of a low "wholesale" price so to speak. It would be the same as if he had bought the coral from his wholesaler for $50 on clearance and fragged it for a $150 profit. I really see no difference in it. I can see how someone would be upset if a buyer, sponsor or not, grabs something up before they can claim it. Happens all the time. (especially to me it seems like lol DOH!) I Live in vegas and there have been at least 6 items that have come up for sale that if I were still in oregon I would have snagged up. But I also agree the seller has the right to sell his item as a whole rather than deal with parting it out. I think overall its a touchy subject. I think for future transactions, If you are a buyer who might get flack for your purchase, or any buyer for that matter, you should make your request in PM's. nobody else needs to know the transaction details except the parties involved. if the buyer wants to be revealed then that is up to the buyer. would solve headaches in the future IMO. (clap)(clap)
  19. wow.... i take a few days off from the forums and all hell breaks loose! LOL As for my opinion on the original issue I say whoever shows up first with cash in hand should be allowed to buy it. Sponsor or not. What if the tank in question had been posted as FOR SALE AS A WHOLE ONLY?? how many of you would have stepped up and bought everything? when i want to sell a car I dont care if my neighbor buys it or the owner of the local dealership. As long as I recieve a fair price then I am happy. After the goods leave the hands of the seller the buyer can do what he wants. Doesnt matter if he frags the corals and sells for a profit or flushes them down the toilet and sets the tank up as a goldfish tank. Thats the beauty of free enterprise. Its not fair to regulate a marketplace even if its a private club forum, to that extent. BUT...... I do believe that if we see someone reselling items purchased off our classifieds BACK on our classifieds at a higher price then action must be taken. Just my .02
  20. Did anyone see the UO game? I watched the beavs as I had it on TV. but no ducks for me. I just kept up to date with the score on TV. 66 points is good but giving up 24 is too much. again I didnt see the game so just wondering they gave up so many points? I half expected the defense to be good for a shutout or to at least hold them to a field goal. after seeing the washington game on tv at least.
  21. I suggested the T-5 tek for maximum growth. Its my understanding the purpose of a frag tank is to grow out coral frags for sale or trade right? well the 8 bulb would get you growing faster and making returns on your coral investments sooner but yeah bulbs arent cheap. if cost is a consideration then look for a good used halide reflector. I know they dont make a 8 bulb any longer but can still be found used. 6 bulb would be awesome too.
  22. I should have bought it at $50 when it first came out. then i could have made money on it lol.
  23. so if there are any console gamers on this forum, specifically PS2, I need your help. I am looking for a game for my brother called- CMT Presents: Karaoke revolution country. it was made about two years ago and is suprisingly rare. I have found it on ebay but by the time the auction ends its goes for upwards of $80. kinda high for me right now. I need to find it for his birthday. I know this is a fish forum but I figured what the heck I would see if anyone had a copy laying in thier collection of games collecting dust perhaps. There are suprisingly few game stores here in vegas that sell used games. In fact there are more that I have seen in salem or eugene-springfield area than here. so if anyone knows where to get this or has it laying around and they want to sell it that would be great! thanks for your time!
