  1. my 60 cube is built with 1/2" and even it bowed until the eurobrace top was added. so definately consider thicker material at least 3/8" up to 20" high would be safe. weld-on is really easy to use just watch the videos on youtube or even www.melevsreef.com #4 evaps fast but seems to be harder to cme by recently at least at the local acrylics shops here. #3 is even faster and water thin but is easier to get at least for me. #16 is the thickest for practical home use and is the strongest IMO. but its also the hardest to get a clean seam with cuz it is thick like a gel superglue and takes along time to dry.
  2. whats the measurement from the bottom to the gate valve? i need to check.
  3. can you use this inside a sump at all? or does it have to be external. Im interested but no room in stand if has to be external. I am far away too but will be in oregon valentines day weekend.
  4. Utah DOES NOT deserve a shot at the NC simply because they didnt play anyone really. Schedule a texas, oklahoma, florida, or even a USC or a Ohio State and beat them, go 12-0 and THEN whine you deserve a shot and people will listen. That would be like an Ivy league or a MAC school running the table and playing nobody and asking for a shot at the title. Championships arent won in January, they are won over a 4 month period of time.

    new fish...

so i have my 60 cube up and running and transferred my fish over from my biocube. livestock includes mated pair of false percs, a diamond or orangespot goby, a cleaner shrimp, and various cuc. I want to add another small fish to my tank and am thinking around the idea of a very small tang or a dwarf angel. I like coral beauty and potters angels. I have heard they are coral nippers and definately not safe with clams. any suggestions? I am going for alot of color in my choice and a tang would be great to eat algae as well. before the tang police flames just know that the 60 cube would only be the home until I get moved back to oregon and get my penninsula tank up and running which is currently being built. 1/2" acrylic, 6ft long, 3ft wide, 24" tall. (scratch)(scratch)
  6. I wouldnt buy a knockoff skimmer either.....would just build one....skimmers are probably the most overpriced equipment out there. As for the light yah its not the best in the world and if I had the chance to grab a tek for even close to this price I would have. but after upgrading the ballast to an icecap660 on each fixture and getting some nice ATI bulbs it will work just fine. not worried about the endcaps because my tank is covered. I am not really into LE corals or high light sps so if the reflectors are a little less efficient than the TEK its ok with me. Yes the hellolights T-5 and the TEK T-5 are very different but for the price it will work for now. I just needed to escape the heat of the halides. Anyone thats been around this hobby awhile knows that yes you do get what you pay for to a certain extent. And while the TEK may be better, you have to admit Sam that this is a better fixture than the aquatraders and even the nova fixtures. As for supporting the local businesses and LFS I do as much as possible. These lights are actually the FIRST thing I have ordered online for the tank. all my LR, pumps, heaters, substrate, livestock, and even the tank itself were bought local with the exception of the tank which was built by a local club member with 10+ years fabrication experience in acrylic. I believe that everyone should spend as much of thier fish money in LFS as opposed to online because if we all start shopping online where will we be when our heaters or return pumps crap out on us and we cant wait 3-5 days for a replacement cuz the LFS have all gone out of business?
  7. soo.... does anyone know about icecap 660's? it says on website they will fun 2 ft bulbs and up to 16ft total bulb length. does that mean I can run all 8 t-5's off one ballast if they are 24"? that would be sweet. thanks for the help
  8. dont worry....no offense taken in any way.... and yes it does look alot like a tek. for the price im just gonna pick up a couple icecap 660's and rewire anyhow. im just trying to get away from the heat of my mh

  10. just curious what the price was before the "closeout" deals?
  11. sooo...what you are saying is that I ordered crap....thanks.....
  12. Hellolights has 48" 4 bulb t5 fixtures WITH bulbs for $100!! Also 24" with bulbs for 100. They look to be discontinujed tek fixtures and it says they have individual reflectors. I just picked up 2 of the 24" for my 60gal cube. Figured I would pass this along to the club so our members can get in on these deals!
  13. why??!?! she doesnt want to tan AND take care of business at the same time? I thought women were all about the multitasking.....tisk tisk......(naughty) My only concern is if someone drops the tidi-bowl tablet into the wrong compartment....then you got smurf fish....(laugh)
  14. 2 aquarium heaters for an electric guitar huh? niiiccce.... best deal I have made was a tank of gas in exchange for a dirtbike.....lol......my buddy was broke and no gas to get to work. his gf had taken his truck so now way to haul the dirtbike anyhow....haha

  22. whats the easiest wat to raise the salinity? mine went down to 1.019 due to a ATO mishap. my clam bleached a little bitand my xenia melted away.... not tooo sad about the xenia tho lol! any suggestions?
  23. i looked at a dart and the only one i saw was over 300 bux and was like 2000 gph. any other decent pump suggestions? Im only looking to get about 1000 gph at most and that price is a little out of my budget. I may just set it up with the koralias for now as I am moving in 3 months and then I could drill and setup the CL while its drained. I want to get it setup soon cuz i am runninga 29g biocube with no skimmer or sump and want the benefits of a sump /true fuge.
  24. thats kind of why i wanted the cl. because i went to the trouble to get the overflow external to avoin any plumbing or distractions in the tank. I was going to put unions on each output from the pump. I was going to go with a 1.5 drain returned to four 3/4 return nozzles. I just need to figure out which pump to run.
