PowderBlue
Well did some cleaning under the stand, cleaned up the wiring a little bit, and shop vacked the sump to clean all the crud out of it. Vacuuming out the sump forced me to do a water change, its the first change ive done in probably 3 months. Everything is still very happy and parameters were perfect before the change which was nice. i should have spent a lot more time on the wire management but this will do for now. wmcbane200
I spent time on the wire management for mine and it still looks crazy lol. Otis nice having everything on a board tho. When I have a issue I just pull it out and bam. Just need to label things now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

PowderBlue
Just a quick update, did about a 20 gallon water change when I cleaned out my sump, I also took apart the neck cleaner today to clean my skimmer. I'd say it's doing its job... pretty nasty and I have it skim to what I would consider wet lol! sps is growing like a weed and the FTS of course Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
youcallmenny
Only use a little of the sand from you old tank....not all of it. Also just scrape from the top only. Once you get into it bad things can happen unless you have been stirring it and know there is nothing wrong with it. Need to paint that overflow also you don't want to see that.....did you run an emergency drain? Looks like you are going with the Herbie style from what I see. Also no baffles in the sump? Emergency drain? Can that work with external overflow boxes?

PowderBlue
yea they get huge! I was under the impression it was a different fish but when Calvin came over he told me it's a vlamingi tang I think. Any who you need about 300 plus gallons for a full size adult! PowderBlue
Just a quick update since I spent some time doing basic maintenance on the tank today, I figured I'd snag some pics of some new additions thanks to Flash21! Added an elegance coral and a green torch. With no flow my nem is getting huge king midas have really taken off, the blue eyed Bit@$#$ are slow growers for me, but they are growing at least Thinking about selling the gobs toppers ( I think that's what they are) They are growing way to fast and starting to take over! and the FTS Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk Edited August 25, 2016 by PowderBlue

PowderBlue
Well it's been about a month since my last update, things are going good in the tank. No fish or coral deaths to report! I changed my feeding regiment a little and algae has subsided a lot, I feed a cube of frozen, a strip of Nori daily, along with a pinch of pellets. I ad aqua vitro every 2 days at half dosage paired with my coral frenzy. Zoa growth is absolutely through the roof, some sps is growing well, others seem slow. I need to find out how to cut back the zoas... Here's some pics I fed right before the photos so the water is cloudy. PowderBlue
Little update I lost a few of my sps and most likely one of my acans colonies. I had a bad test kit and it was showing my magnesium at 1500 to 1600 ppm, suddenly my forest fire started having issues, then came my red and blue acans, and then my Birds nest colony. I tested and tested and tested and everything seemed in line aside from mag. So I bought another test kit and it came in at 900! This seemed to have explained the issue but I have no idea how it would drop that much. I don't do water changes very often but the tanks only been up 6 months. So I then bought some mag to dose and brought it up between 50 and 100 ppm a day. It's now sitting at 1400 and I'm going to test once a week just to be safe. Pretty bummed that I lost so much coral, but I'm lucky I didn't lose it all. Some of my sps is still rockin and my softies and zoas are totally fine. It just hit the 1400 mark today so I'm praying nothing else decides to go tits up on me. Calcium and alk has been stable the entire time due to my reactor but that mag just plummeted! So I might be on the lookout for some sps soon Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk

PowderBlue
Well I'd say it's time. I ALMOST sold the entire setup due to a lot of coral death and thinking of downsizing but I stuck it out and chased down my issues! Tank seems to be stable again. I was not taking into account the salt drop from my skimmer waste cup so salinity was way low and also my mag dropped somehow extremely fast as well. Between those two issues I lost a lot of coral but the death streak seems to be over. No fish deaths luckily! Here are a few shots from tonight Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
Emerald525
Tank is making a nice comeback! Glad you stuck it out ! Looks like most of the Zoas made it . Sps are like the canary in the coal mine. They are usually the first to go and can go quickly!
Paratore
Sorry to hear about the coral loss man :/ if I had some SPS I would throw it your way but I gave up on that world for a little while haha. Thinking of selling up my Red Sea Max Nano as SPS so I'll get back into it one day! It seems to always suck is back in. I'm glad you were able to figure out what was killing your stuff and correct it. Like Kim said, zoas look awesome and that's the most important part Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
PowderBlue
Haha yeah SPS and I have never gotten along very well it's like that crazy ex that you just can't stay away from though. I see it and have to bring it Home! It's just to pretty. I'm going to see how my current sps does for a month or so and then start to add some more. Thanks for the kind words Kim and Cody Sent from my SM-G928V using Tapatalk
