  1. Cant wait to see it, want to upgrade to this tank when we move in about a year.
  2. Its been a while since i have updated the progress of my ATS so here it is. Think I finally have it set the way i want it. I had issues with the led strip lights, they started flickering after about a month of being installed. I ordered a second set of them and those did the same thing after about 2 weeks. Figured it was time to try something other then strip lights, so I ordered one of these guys https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LX1EO3W/ref=asc_df_B01LX1EO3W5165357/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395033&creativeASIN=B01LX1EO3W&linkCode=df0&hvadid=198107334619&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5089082488529891100&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061081&hvtargid=pla-319250133802 and wow this thing is bright. It was so bright that i thought it may burn the algae, but i was wrong. This light grow algae like crazy. My nitrates are down around 2 ppm and i am feeding quite a bit more then i used to and my tank is looking great. 4 days growth on flood light side 4 days growth on led side nearly 2 times as much algae 4 days worth of growth Happy tank!
  3. Thank you, hopefully you or someone else can help pinpoint the issue. Im not to concerned due to the swing being consistent day to day, just puzzled.
  4. Warning this hobby is very addicting. Excited to see your build.
  5. Here is my comparison graph of PH to ORP. There was one spike in my PH when i first added my dosing pumps to the Apex due to an error in my coding and the pump ran a little to long. But other then that PH seems to only flucate about .12 per day which seems fairly normal from what i have read. The ATS is off for the 6 hours of my peak lighting and then on for 18 hours. I have also attached a photo of my light cycle. Everything in the tank looks happy except for a few acans which have never really done well for me. All water parameters seem fine Alk 8.2-8.5, cal 425, nitrates just under 10 ppm and have slowly been dropping over the last month or so since ATS has started to really take off. I did buy the apex used from someone on the forum and the probe was used. He did have it in a tupperware with tank water in it and was never out of the water for more then 5 minutes. I do have the probes located in the aio upper sump chamber of my E-170 and not in the lower sump that i added but i do not believe that would effect the reading. ORP seems consistent day to day but just seems like a large swing from what i have read online.
  6. What is a standard daily ORP fluctuation on a tank that does not run ozone? I have only had an apex for a few weeks and my tank runs 90ish at night and 330ish during day. I have an ATS running opposite schedule of my tank lights and run my skimmer around the clock. Whats weird is my light dont turn on till 1130 am and hit peak at 130 but my ORP starts to rise at 7 am which is way before the lights come on. Is this a mormal fluctuation and timing, seems consistent so im not to concerned.
  7. Figured it out little arrow at top see attached photo. Also found this awsome calculator for the coding for dosing pumps https://www.reeftronics.net/adpg/dosingcalc.php
  8. Picked up a used apex from a fellow reefer here on the forum. Tonight I pluged in my first pieces of equipment into it, BRS dosing pumps which I previously ran on timers. I believe i got the coding correct but not sure if i have the options set correctly. From the main dash board i am unable to move the slidder away from auto, can not press the gear icon to enter settings from dash board. All the slider options apper to be greyed out. Am i just missing something simple or is it due to mu settings that I cannot move the slidder bar? Possibly something to due with port 4 and 8 containing relays? So far the dosing pumps are the only equipment plugged in.
  9. I have worked in the automotive industry for 13 years now, collision repair. We have had several of the diesel Colorados in the shop and they are very impressive. The diesel is the only way to go with American made trucks. If you want true reliability and a vehicle that will hold its resale value get a Toyota. Toyotas are bulletproof.
  10. First harvest of some real algae. A little more then half is a dark green, a few small patches of brighter green algae starting to appear and still a little brown slime as well. Glad it is finally starting to really grow some good algae.
  11. Welcome its an addicting hobby.
  12. Netflix just released a good documentary called "Chasing Coral". It is about mass coral bleaching and is very sad. It is definitely a movie everyone should share with others.
  13. Wish i had room that is a beautiful setup.
  14. Finally after a few minor adjustments and changes there is green hair algae beginning to grow. I ordered led strip lighting designed for indoor growing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KLUTB3A/ref=asc_df_B01KLUTB3A5067718/?tag=hyprod-20&creative=395033&creativeASIN=B01KLUTB3A&linkCode=df0&hvadid=196292539648&hvpos=1o2&hvnetw=g&hvrand=6297144291065250690&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9061081&hvtargid=pla-314531755349 , wrapped the housing, and covered all in black duct tape so no light would leach out into the sump. At this point it was still just growing brown slime algae. I was about to give up at this point but i did a little more research and found this article https://www.algaescrubbing.com/threads/algae-scrubber-basics.264/. I pulled my screen out and roughed it up more then it was, still not as rough as the one shown in the article but I ised 40 grit sand paper and a diamond hole saw and it is rough to the touch. I also started pulling it out weekly and running under sink while lightly wiping the brown slime off with fingers. Thursday when wiping i noticed several areas that were turning green. Looked at it today and there is green starting to grow everywhere, very fast change ? I will upload a few additional photos this Thursday when i pull it out to clean the screen under normal light.
  15. Aluminum will never rust but of exposed to steel galvanic corrosion will occur. If you use aluminum make sure any hardware you mount to it is also aluminum. If you have to use steel plasti-dip is a great option, it turns in to a rubberized coating that you can peel off in one piece if properly applied and re-sprayed.
  16. Really cool video nice find.
  17. Mirror is working amazingly. The wrasse is barley getting chased, dottyback has mellowed. Added bonus the clownfish have been swimming in front of the mirror non stop they are super interested in the additional clownfish they are seeing ?
  18. Where should i put, it near the dottybacks cave?
  19. Picked up a leopard wrasse from cuttlefish and coral this weekend and my dottyback does not seem to like him. The wrasse has been waking up and he just heads towards the top of the tank and hangs out on top of my gyre. There is some algae growing on the magnet and he seem to be picking at pods up there. Everytime he gets more then about halfway down the dottyback darts at him then darts back to his cave, doesnt seem to actually be attacking him more like a warning this is my tank. The dottyback has been a model citizen and seems to care less about the other fish. The wrasse is pretty small right now. He is eating reef frenzy and picking at the pods on glass and gyre and seems happy haning near the gyre. Should i be concerned? Only had the wrasse for 3 days, what are the odds of the dottyback accepting him as a tank mate? Will he hold his own as he grows?
  20. I just noticed everyone has a rank associated with a type of fish. What decides what fish you are ranked?
