  1. Could be really cool-- especially if you time it so the tides are in sync with our coast. I would be concerned about the smell of live rock exposed to air. Maybe use less porous rock in the upper tank?
  2. Nice meeting you yesterday. Big mama clown settled down immediately on my BTA and she now has a juvenile ocellaris buddy that won't leave her side.
  3. A very cool bug-- loves it hot and acidic! Yes, fascinating to see life thrive at more than 100 degrees Celsius or in conditions with almost no energy available. There are very few sterile places on the face of the planet.
  4. I am a microbiologist. I mostly study microbes that inhabit volcanoes and I have been lucky to work at deep-sea hydrothermal vents and on top of some amazing mountains. I'm happy to talk microbes with anyone who has a question-- reef tanks and microbes go hand-in-hand, especially with the nitrogen cycle.
  5. Fantastic! Do you have any tips for getting nice pictures? How do you light the corals & how do you process the images after you take them?
  6. I've never had a problem with a gasket going bad. Most of the units have universal sized filters so the parts are interchangeable. I would certainly change all of the filters, resin, and RO membrane on any used filter that hasn't been used in a while. The resin and membranes can go bad if you don't use them and they dry out.
  7. This looks like a fun meeting-- The fragging demonstration will be great to see.
  8. I use Bayer and then MediCoral. I also remove the plugs, too.
  9. How do you like the OHMAX light? I was thinking about getting one to replace my cheapo e27 light. Does it seem to be working alright? How did you hang it?
  10. I saw that green nem the other day-- super bright!
  11. You can get a new 75 gallon for $75 at Petco if you can find a store with one in stock.
  12. Very cool-- what is your sump like? Lots of rock? lights? Always interesting when the bubble tips just start dividing-- I have one that has never split, and others that split too much.
  13. Wow-- what an awesome tank! This is one of the best nanos I have ever seen, I love all the colors. Are you feeding the nems? Have they reproduced yet?
  14. I'll keep my team if we go again
  15. Picked up the Forest Fire today from Paradise Corals who was nice enough to hold it for me. I got it home in no fewer than three pieces, though. It reminds me of that old "want more chips" joke. I got them mounted on some plugs and will return the love when they heal up. This was my first trip to Paradise Corals-- they have some sweet stock, I would be broke if I wasn't so poor!

    My BC-29

Thanks for the update-- I love this tank! How did the filefish work?
  17. Lol-- I can't believe they won't sell syringes in Oregon. Like that is the limiting factor of being a heroin addict or something. You can buy syringes and needles on Amazon and get them mailed here. Just don't throw them in the trash after use, it is against the law here. Put them in a container and take them to the Walgreens for disposal.
  18. I think it would make an awesome pico tank, small critters stand out more in 3 gallons of water.
  19. Are you going to add a skimmer to the first compartment? If so, you want the weir from the first compartment a little taller than the second weir so the water level doesn't change where the skimmer is located.
  20. That's a pest crab. He'll eat your cuc and can even munch on corals.
  21. I use the nanomag from two little fishes on my 5 gallon. The wet side is only about a quarter inch thick and the magnet is super strong.
