Oh man my trigger was trying to figure out how to pick up a half buried conch just yesterday. I was worried he wanted to eat it or something but given the context of him moving the frags later on I think it was just trying to move the conch. Yeah, I originally didn’t want this Trigger but now it’s such a cool looking fish and has so much personality that I really don’t want to get rid of him p.s: I keep calling my trigger a “he” but I really am not 100% certain. I have heard however that for most species that such territory building behavior is indicative that it is male, except in crosshatch and yellow margin triggerfishes wherein territorial females exist too.

When we talk rockmover, we generally first think of the Dragon Wrasse, which itself is also colloquially know as the rockmover wrasse. It is known to move frags around if for some reason kept in a reef. However, I have long since discovered that a fish I own personally is also a rockmover. My Indian Triggerfish. It’s a long story, but I had originally purchased the Indian trigger as a Hawaiian black triggerfish from “Fishy Business Aquatics.” They had incredibly low prices, and really I should have paid attention to their name and lived by the “too good to be true rule.” Needless to say, the Indian Trigger, which turned out to be the only wrong fish they sent, was also the only one who survived the apparent cyanide fishing method they used to catch the 6 other fish that came with it. Depressing stuff aside, this fish has always had a lot of personality, and I had suspected for over a year that he was relocating my frags (and a ricordea that I had!). Only today have I personally witnessed him doing so. He legitimately picks them up and looks for a place to put them. Right now I think he’s throwing a tantrum because I took a frag away from him and put it back. He spat water out of the tank twice and is trying to tug at my rockwork. I put in a lot of scrap small chunks of dry rock to try to act as a decoy for now now and he’s pretty ticked off at that for sure. He’s caused me a lot of trouble before this as well. He likes to dig under rocks and he’s given me a nasty bite before as well. I really don’t know what to do with him. 😅😂 I’m reluctant to get rid of him but I also didn’t expect this much trouble from one fish. Have any of you had such a trouble maker? Any ideas as well?

If the protein skimmer works well I think I’ll take it. And I think I’ll go for the LEDs and driver too while I’m at it. Are the LEDs themselves used (and if so, for how long?)

Resealing it properly would make for an awesome tank. But then again, resealing it properly is easier said than done. And the risk is huge. Tempted as I may be, the risk of it leaking or even blowing is too large.

I’m a little interested in the giant hermit crab, but I don’t think I can justify going all the way down south from Portland for it :/

They are in fact, different species, melichtys indicus and melichtys niger respectively, with different coloration, the indicus has thin gold looking lines on its black body, and when stressed can change into a pale brown color. Its tail is a waxing crescent with a white band at the end. The melichtys niger has shiny blue spots mixed into its body with what looks like a yellowish reddish blush near its face. Its tail is a waning crescent like the niger trigger’s tail, and is fully black. Here is my fish.

Will post a picture soon, $100 He will complete copper quarantine on September 4th. There’s nothing wrong with him, it’s just the vendor sent me the wrong fish (I wanted a hawaiin black triggerfish). Still a beautiful fish, but not on my intended stocking list. Going rate for these at this size is $120 and up, but I just honestly want more room already.

Citrus mistress, apple berry, and maaaaybe a duncan (need to think on that one). Might also contemplate a goniopora but I already have a frag of wicked witch goniopora that I am slowly growing out. But I’d love a frag of the apple berry for sure. I will be at the meeting this saturday if nothing goes out of plan.

Ahaha. Yeah you’d want to move all the coral out of course, keep them in another tank that undergoes the fallow as you essentially sterilize your current one. More of a pain to do and potentially not worth it. I am contemplating your angel, buuuut, not sure as it could be an LPS eater and my tank is lps dominant. Hmm. I’ll get back to you on that. I still haven’t had the time to make my mind up.

Might be interested in all corals. Any idea what you’d go for just all corals? I keep mixed/aggressive reef so the smaller fish are a gamble.

Thanks for the frags Holly, really enjoying them. They are currently im quarantine, but I can’t wait to introduce them to the DT.

So, I’ve been reading up lately and I stumbled upon this relic. Diatomaceous earth filters. With tiny pore sizes, they can essentially filter out many microorganisms from our water, clearing up the water and reducing if not eliminating the spread of ich-like organisms (though there’s some debate about this latter one). I am interested in taking the plunge and getting one, but I want other people’s perspective and also, I have realized that the main company that made them for reef tanks, Vortex, no longer makes them, leaving three options, DIY, get a retrofitted vortex filter from amazon, or buy one intended for a pool (too big and also a little pricier than other two options). What do you lot think about DE filters? Do any of you use them? And of the three options in procuring one, which would be the best to go with?

Then I think I’ll go with that. LED lights and gift cards sound awesome. I was going to recommend some frags/clams/whatnot but a giftcard of course is more flexible and hence better.

Oh wow. That’s an insane stocking list, how big is your tank to fit so many creatures? Haha. but yeah, I guess TTM is not so practical when you have that many fish to treat. How big is your hospital tank? Well if you look into it and find out what temperature ich dies at, you could theoretically boil the ich out of the saltwater, and reuse the then sterile water. Worth it? I don’t know, but doable if you have the right equipment and time. But yeah, understandable why you are just treating with copper. I guess I’ll stick around and think on your majestic angel.
