  7. +1!☝️ But to answer your specific question you should have a TDS meter. A basic one would cost you about $25. It will give you some idea how "good or bad" your tap water is. If you are planning on a reef tank--now or ever--the water that goes in your tank should read "0" (Zero, Zilch, Nada, Zip). To answer your second question, there are good aquarium stores in the area (Portland metro area, that is) that sell both RODI and pre-mixed salt water. If you are planning on getting a lot at one time, I would suggest calling ahead to give them the heads-up. As a side note, as you probably know, a large system is very forgiving for most small mistakes. It is also hell on big mistakes. In a 20 gallon tank, if you put in tap water and get hair algae or corals die or whatever you can dump out the water and start over. With a 550 gallon system, not so easy. From your prior posts, it looks like you may be starting with dry rock. You have a long wait ahead of you already. What's one or two more weeks? You are 100% doing the right thing in reaching out to this forum for questions. There are lots of reefers here that will help a brother (or sister) out. Looking forward to seeing how things come together! Holly
  8. Kim is spot on! We are so lucky to have you here, am I am lucky to count you as a friend. Happy birthday! Sent from my SM-G928P using Tapatalk

  12. I have some parts from a couple of old 130s (I think) that may or may not work. Before I toss them I thought I'd see if anyone can use 'em. Sent from my SM-G928P using Tapatalk
  13. So did my first two husbands...
  14. That is actually a beautiful fish, as is the crosshatch. I just don't have nerves of steel like you do. I would be constantly worried about losing my other fish and inverts. I do have the sense to know that a stripper would not make a good girlfriend, though.
  15. What a great suggestion! They are a friendly, inexpensive fish. Great idea!
  16. Oh my gosh you guys crack me up! Well, the mystery is solved...sort of. I found him dead and decomposing in the rock work. I swear he wasn't there yesterday, but maybe I wasn't looking at that exact spot. If I had to make a guess, I would say that Brian@pdxmonkeyboy wins the prize money for guessing that the trigger simply got stuck in the rocks. There is no conclusive evidence of course, but most of the alternative explanations (anemone, jumping, alien abduction, or kidnapped by husband) are now ruled out. 17. Well it is supposed to have night vision, but it only turns on when it detects movement. I'm not really sure how this works, though--if the night vision only turns on when it detects movement, but it doesn't detect movement because the lights are off, then nothing gets recorded. You would think that someone smarter than me has figured a way around this... No ORP but I just happened to have checked nitrates a couple of days ago and I was at .5-ish. Same today. I did go through all of Manny's @Manny Tavansuggestions again (lights, overflow, even the frag tanks lol) and also checked in crevices in the rockwork like Brian @pdxmonkeyboysuggests. No dice. Thanks for all the ideas and well-wishes, everyone! I'm going to chalk this up to one of the many mysteries we encounter in keeping a reef tank.
  18. Oh my gosh Ryan you crack me up! You have a point though... It's like the Bermuda Triangle.
  19. I looked there too! Keep coming up with ideas though!
  20. Trigger was last seen at 8:54 pm last night. Lights went off at 9 pm. I was down there at 10 am this morning. No trigger. Hmmm...
  21. Oh my gosh that just reminded me...I have a tank cam! I'll look at the playback and see if I can find any clues. Sent from my SM-G928P using Tapatalk
