  1. Welcome to the group. I also came from a freshwater background (koi) and am now in the learning process with the reef activity. Lot's of great members in this group that will offer advice and help you learn. I will look forward to meeting you.
  2. I mix windex and red cider vinegar (50/50). It is what I use on the boat exterior in direct sunlight and it works there as well as the exterior of my tank glass. Takes out all water spots and cleans at the same time. I agree with apply to the rag instead of directly to the glass.
  3. Mitch, I use a product called Aiptasia X. It works quickly by covering and smothering the aiptasia. I had some of the small shrimp that will eat the aiptasia in my old tank and they also work eventually. Let me know if you want to try the product above. You could get rid of what you have and see if it is something you want to keep around. STeve
  4. Bret, I will try to stop in Saturday. Enjoyed seeing the tank and loved the frags from last time around. Steve
  5. Coralvite Iodine AcrPower (for amino acid's in general)
  6. Welcome back to the hobby. Glad to see you in the forum!
  7. Nice color - I guess I am going to have to find a frag of those as well!
  8. As a newbie in this activity I am dosing with two part and after an initial period of finding out how much I really need it has really perked up the tank. I also started dosing iodine for my zoa color and that has really brightened up the tank. I still do this manually and I know that is not the most consistent way to do it. At some point I am going to not get it done and then be short. A reactor would not do that I suppose.
  9. I would be interested in a few to get a start. Let me know and I will stop over your way. Will PM.
  10. Great looking new fish! I don't think I have seen either one of them before.
  11. I apologize in advance if I am getting too simplistic. Could it simply be sand? I have very fine sand that tends to get all over many of the corals that are down lower in my tank. It could simply be sand that will in fact just blow off with a baster. Only a guess??
  12. Sounds like lots of fun. I have raised koi spawn several times and end up with thousands of fish. They start in the spring looking like mosquitoes and end up being about 4 inches long by the time fall rolls around. Let me know if you have some babies (a couple)you want to get rid of when the time is right. I hope you can keep them healthy until they are bigger. Have fun with this!
  13. I sent a PM with a phone number. Give me a call and I will try to come out this evening.
  14. Wow! Great color on both of these shots. Good job.
  15. I would talk to you if you decide to let the acans go up for sale. I have an acan you sold me earlier and it is doing great in my tank. It is nearly doubled in size since I got it and finally brightening up in color. The shrimp is also doing well and he thinks he owns half of the tank Let me know if you are ready or PM me. Thanks
  16. I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the meeting. It was fun to see the back rooms in the aquarium. The 'small' skimmer vs 'large' skimmer was pretty funny. The small ones are larger than most of us will ever use. Clark (Jeremy)- thanks for bringing the frags which I was lucky enough to take home. They are already opening up nicely adding some missing color. I will reciprocate with some of my own frags one of these upcoming meetings. Thanks to Andrew for all for all of the time you must put into this group
  17. Probably not a great option, but you might try making sure there is always some dry algae in the clip. If I put some in the clip daily it will always be eaten by the fish in my tank. I have read that this will make the tangs less aggressive. Currently I have a Blue Tang, a Yellow Tang and a Sailfin Tang all in a 200 gallon tank. The three tangs seem to co-habitat well together. I cannot say the same with a Tomatoe Clown that will not tolerate two smaller Clowns I tried to put into the tank. Probably the Tomatoe will be up for sale or trade very soon! BTW, the three tangs are all about the same size (4"). I know it is tough to give up a beautiful fish. I hope you can make it work.
  18. No, currently I use a calcium buffer two part system (B-Ionic) along with Coralvite, AcroPower (for aminos) and iodine. I also do weekly water changes (about 30/40 gallons in my 200 gallon tank). My skimmer is not not to snuff on this system and I am looking at a larger more effective unit. Does any of this help to explain the sponge growth ??
  19. Are sponges OK to be in the tank? I have a lot of small ones growing on the rock in my tank. They seem to not be decreasing but instead possibly growing. I am just not sure if this is good or bad. Thanks for advice!
  20. Outstanding! Welcome to some major life changes. Sometimes hard but always worthwhile!
  21. Bret, Thanks for the great zoa's and all of the education. I really enjoyed getting to know you. The zoa's are all doing great in my tank. I added the additives you suggested and hope that it helps color up those that were a bit muted in color. You have the largest collection of zoa's I have ever seen and lots of beautiful ones to choose from on the frags. Thanks again for your hospitality.
