  1. Up one by extending the warranties. These LEDs have poor warranties of like 1-2 year. The best on the market is 5 years. More people might be interested in the same LEDs, but longer protection.
  2. We do carry a brand of leds, which has a tile very similar to this. It is does not have the controllablity with out a seperate controller though (for a good reason). I would look into the type of emitters it has. It might have a "lower" PAR number but what "useful" (PUR) light it has could be more than other brands. http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2012/03/pur-vs-par-in-aquarium-lighting.html?m=1
  3. Knowing your tap water, will let you know if your should go with a RO unit, GH and KH. If you are thinking advanced reef, it's just a good idea. Better than Amazon. Amazon is harming small business, which also support this forum... We pride our self on the type of on-line store we have, which is not like Amazon. Lots of information based on professional long term use of products. Based out of Southern Oregon, international on-line information provider/retailer. Here is one such article on the use of RO water and osmoregulation of fish. Information you wont get from Amazon. http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2006/12/how-do-fish-drink.html http://americanaquariumproducts.com/
  4. Calcium has also been proven to improve aquarium health. The mineral cations found in calcium improves the overall "balance" of the tank. While detritus and other such as conditioners are harming long-term health of the tank, the calcium is improving it. The use if calcium reactors http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/AquariumKH.html#kalkwasser A aquarium "balance" http://americanaquariumproducts.com/Redox_Potential.html

  6. My wife and I this last Summer.
  7. We have them in stock. http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/WaveController.html
  8. IMO. Most controllers on the market wont provide the "thriving" I'm talking about. Though there are lots of tanks which look great and do have growing corals, using or not using controllers. The thing that sets controllers apart on the market is the fashion in which they dim the emitters. Not using proper tech to dim LEDs, allow for shifting of the spectrum of light given to the coral, so they receive less useful light during the dimming phase, less light, less growth. Kinda like a dimmer wall switch for a incandescent bulb in a house. The color will go warmer when dimming... There are dimmers on the market, which provide the same quality of light when dimming and in this case, you provide more useful light even during the dimming phase of the light schedule. This equals thriving corals IMO. More like nature! Kessil/Apex does not have the correct tech for this dimming I'm talking about, which is why I said IMO it's not worth it and with Kessil/Apex it's just for our viewing pleasure, but provides little benefit for the corals. http://aquariumopinions.com/2013/07/07/aquarium-led-lights-controllers-what-is-best/
  9. When done properly, it can really make coral thrive. IMO
  10. I would just raise and lower them for intensity control. Use a simple on/off timer. IMO the controller is not worth the extra cost.
  11. We're running an interesting test right now with a couple cycle aids. It's interesting to watch the ammonia and nitrites cycle through. What's we are trying to figure out is, which one makes the cycle, but also what well they maintain a cycle when a load occur during the cycle. This is only really important for new tank cycles.
  12. Can you please explain how this works for sponsors? We just gave our contribution, which should cover us for 2015. Thank you, Devon American Aquarium Products
  13. .5 is not a large amount of ammonia. You could add Prime. http://americanaquariumproducts.com/Nitrogen_Cycle.html#highammonia
  14. Between 9-11 is what I keep my tanks at, keeps a higher pH.
  15. No way.... This is how I learned what to do. Back up. http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2007/08/aquarium-moving.html
  16. I use Prime each water change. Many conditioners are proven to be a Redox reducers, which help Redox Balance (long-term Immunity). This includes SeaChem Prime, Tetra/Jungle Start Right, Kordon Novaqua, and many more. I also cycled a new aquarium pretty quickly using Stability and a seeded sponge.
  17. I would highly recommend TMC AquaRay LEDs. Might spend like $50 more, but you will get so much more. Controlling option is separate too, only because they require a dimmer, which wont mess with the spectrum with adjusting the LEDs. A patented unique LED design, with more useful light for the coral. A nice color, even though they are 20K. Not to mention a 5 year full warranty. No others do this. http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/32321-tmc-aquaray-leds-are-back/ I hope your search goes well. I would recommend 2 or 3 for your set up. 3 if you are wanting SPS close to the bottom of the tank. Otherwise, most likely 2.
  18. We've had great success with SeaChem Stability. http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/seachem.html#stability We are currently running control tests between some cycling bacterias to see which one is better. It's going to be interesting. Stability is what we've had the best sucess with so far.
  19. oh yes. Sorry mis read that. Just have the ball valves. All we've had a need for.
  20. I think this has been covered pretty well. IMO it's immunity. Hence why some fish get it and others may not. Do whatever you can to improve Redox of the tank and that will help the fish naturally fight off the disease. A UV sterilizer could also be considered to improve immunity and keep the Ich out of the water column. If it were my fish, I would try a reef safe treatment fish or just try to improve immunity to help the little guy fight it off long-term. http://americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquarium_Ich.html#marine
