I have three of their UV sterilizers and I am very happy with them.

Some of the alk test kits vary enough from sample to sample to mess up your experiment. I would go with Salifert for the most precision.

Matt, seeing your post made me read up on them again. This article was informative: https://www.reefs.com/blog/magazine-parent/2013-2/pest-free-reefkeeping-iii-the-flatworms/ The dip that is recommended in the article for killing the eggs, "All out" doesn't seem to be available anymore.

That is a huge bummer! Sorry to hear. I think Fishboys recently got rid of flatworms. Perhaps he can share how he conquered the little beasts.

Robert, if you put your frag into your main tank under higher PAR, I bet it will turn green like a true "Hulk."

Cool! I think Travis' display combo of Kessils and Red Sea T5 is really nice. I am playing with a T5 / LED combo in one of my Red Sea tanks.

Check out this wild piece that I picked up from Garrett at TPA about 6 months ago. It has a really unique growth form. The middle branch is at least 2 inches wide. Since I put it under my LEDs at about 350 PAR it has turned into a bright green like a green slimer, and is now probably the brightest Acropora in this tank. I think they should call it the "Giant Slimer" or "Goliath Slimer" or something like that. Has anyone else seen a green acro with branches this thick?

In my freshwater experience, the tannins that leach from Indian Almond leaves raise my TDS. So, if something is leaching from an old food storage barrel, for example, it is possible. I'll bet this would only happen when you first start using it, though. Will a new non-food grade plastic container leach enough stuff to raise TDS, I don't know....? It probably doesn't matter, however, since many people Brute Trash cans with no reported ill effects.

Your TDS is probably not actually 0 at the start. It's just below the sensitivity of your TDS meter.

I would keep a circulation pump going to keep it aerated. Keep a tight fitting lid on your water to prevent evaporation, since the biggest thing I would worry about is having your salinity creep up before you use it. (That's probably what is happening to your RO water TDS too.) If you check the water to make sure the salinity is correct, I think you could let it sit for months with no issue. I use a salt mix that mixes up almost instantly, so I make my water about 10 minutes before I use it. EDIT: Now I see that you said your buckets were sealed. The only thing I can think of that would increase your RO water TDS as it sits would be leaching from the bucket into the water, evaporation, or dust settling into the water.

Sounds like a nice setup. I would probably try to make room for a slightly larger sump, since it is nice to have space down there.

Final top-down shot: Day 1 top-down shot: Final measurement: Comparison: It's hard to get the angle right, but it looks to me like the center branch grew just a shade under 3/8 of an inch, and the long branch grew slightly under 1/8 of an inch. The frag plug was completely encrusted. Thanks again for running this grow-out, Robert! I can't wait to start fragging this bad boy!

This one has to be my favorite, since my 8-yr-old got it for me for my birthday!

Here's what the color looks like without the amber gel filter that I got from Barrier Reef Aquariums. I'm still trying to find the right shade of amber, since I think the one I currently have on the lens is taking out too much blue. Here's a shot with a slightly lighter shade of amber filter.
