  1. Yes but if they are zeroed out you can have lighter/bleached looking corals too. Happened to me, starting blaming lighting but once I backed off all the vodka dosing and bio pellets, my colors came back. Feeding will also play a part. There's a ton of scenarios, unless you just switched to those lights it's hard to say they are the only culprit.
  2. There's a ton of different things it could be. How about full parameters list? What's your nitrate/phosphate at?
  3. I use an AquaticLife reg, was reasonable and has been going well for over a year now. Found many others using the same one with success. Something to look into.
  4. Yes from Guardians of the Galaxy. Good watch if you haven't seen it yet.
  5. Just out of curiosity to the OP, what lights are you running and what's your schedule look like? I'm mixed on LEDs vs Mh/T5. I have had better growth and color with LED on SPS than I did previously. LPS was the opposite. I've seen an equal number of amazing tanks with both. I prefer the deeper blues the LEDs produce, but that's a personal preference. Water quality also plays a huge part in coloration, any chance your params aren't ideal? Newer tank? Just curious. Edit...you have ORs...never mind
  6. If you come across some locally I'd love to know where...been sitting on a water blaster pump upgrade for my CaRx for a long time not wanting to start hacking unless I have excess :S
  7. Bigger tank....awwwww snap! How big we talking? I'd look into the reeflo gold series pumps. Would do nicely with flow to spare! Keep the DC pumps for skimmers hehe
  8. Holy mess! Don't let the kid close to the intake for that beast! LOL
  9. Ideally you should upload your pictures to a photo site like photobucket and copy the code in the post and they will be big. Tank looks great though! Keep up the good work!
  10. If demand is lower than the output, just put your co2 on a timer. Some people don't run them at night to keep pH up anyways. It's a really flexible option, I think you'll like it!
  11. What tank is this for? Is your hood space limited for some reason? Most LEDs with secondary optics can be removed and run with no optics or a diffused optic in limited space areas. It's easy to DIY and optics are cheap on eBay. I would say most leds are more focused and won't be as much of an issue without a hood as you realize. You may want to get in contact with Kenny from Reefstar, he has a free trial program for his lights so you can give them a test drive on your tank first. Food for thought!
  12. Sheesh! You guys are killing it! My finals, not so good :( I was lazy and should have moved them away from my sunny d super colony.... Zoas - 20 Palys - 5
  13. The difference though is Apex will actually allow you to control something vs just monitor it. So in a sense to have true control they would either have to work together or you would have to be making your apex dose while monitoring the mindstream yourself. So it's hard to compare because you kind of need both to have full control. Anyone catch how he said the sensor disks "can contain up to 10 optical sensors" and the price is going to range on disks from $30-50...Us reefers are going to be on the expensive end of that replacement cost (assuming they release a FW and SW version). Hope that's not the case but seemed fishy to me
  14. I was a bit worried about it when I saw the pricing...$500 with one disk or $1000 with a year supply of disks? So it's going to cost $500/year to run this thing? Don't get me wrong, it's amazing if it works but holy crap!
  15. For sure, if space isn't an issue go big and never worry about refilling. For reference, 16oz/lb so a 5lb tank holds 4x as much as a 20oz co2 tank. Just saying its a possibility if space is your only issue. Wasn't this tank going to be plumbed into a closet sump?
  16. The adapter is $15. A 20oz CO2 tank locally cost about $40 with a free fill. Carbon fiber tanks for paintball are for compressed air only. You need an aluminum co2 tank. Using these is more common on planted tanks that use less co2.
  17. And if your limited by CO2 tank size, aquaticlife sells a paintball co2 reg adapter so you could use smaller paintball tanks instead of the larger 5+ lb ones
  18. Who was it that won tank of the month a little while back on a cube tank? He had a aquamax nano I believe (had it hanging on the side). Tank was gorgeous! All I can say for reactor vs dosing is this: I switched to reactor and couldn't be happier. I literally check my effluent flow every few days and that's about it, mostly just a visual check. I ran my reactor for a year on one bag of Reborn and one tank fill. Aside from the first month or so of getting it dialed it's just been set and forget. With dosing I was always mixing up more two part and worrying about doser losing prime or getting clogged somehow. It's been so much easier with the reactor I don't think I'd have it any other way.
  19. Yes they do, it's in the plumbing area but with the brass barbs and valves there are plastic ones. If you can't find the thread size on the pipe just bring it in with you and test fit, we all do that from time to time
  20. Nice Jack! This is a cool idea that's turning into a reality! I'll keep an eye out for a sump idea for you. Might be hard to have sump and chiller down there though. You have a chiller picked out yet?
  21. I would do the vinegar wash with it. Just a water rinse likely won't break up any oils or films on the plastic like the vinegar will. It's worth the stink lol
