  1. Picked up this 4 year old clown fish from TPA today he was just chillin in one of the frag tanks and kept swimming in my way when looking at corals had no choice but to buy her. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk

  3. If there are any spots let please add me if not can you put me on a alternate list Thanks
  4. I have thought about and do have some screening material to make a top for and will likely do so before I add any more fish. the skimmer and pump wires and such running over the top really bothered me at first but I have gotten used to them to the point where I don't really see them any more. The stand was designed to remain open. I have contemplated adding a sump and closing it off but for now am happy as is. Th rock work was a bit of a challenge the main concern was making sure the algae scrapper had clearance all the way around the rock work. getting good flow is the true challenge.
  5. I would be interested in the ballasts do you ever make it down south or would you be able to ship them?
  6. Found a couple pictures of the stand being built
  7. Howdy Folks Figured I would start a build thread even though this tank has already been built. I originally built the Stand for this tank back in 2012 the custom stand is designed to fit a standard 20 long that I picked up from petco $1 a gallon sale. Spent easily 100hrs working away to build the stand from scratch. I added a False wall to make it and all in one with 2 rear chambers. I got the kit from a member on Nano reef but can't remember who. This tank has been set up and taken down many times in the last three years and almost sold it twice once to Noob and KKnight. However I was very glad I kept it as last spring I came home from a vacation in the woods and found that my Nuvo38 had burst a seem and drown my living room. Luckily I had this tank handy. did a quick swap to save as many things as I could. Lost a lot of corals and 1 of my 2 fish did not live very long after this incident. Then not long aftert I moved and the tank went with but did not get much love. I have now decided to clean the algea out and start a new to get this back to a thriving reef once again. Equipment: 20 gallon long Tank Custom built stand 10-15 pounds of reef saver rock 20 pounds agrilive sand WP10 wave maker Korilla 425 gph IM first gen Skimmer No name 106 gph return pump Reefstar Nano alpha series LED Finnex 50 watt heater/controller DJ power strip Chemi-Pure Elite Purigen Fish: 1 Starry Blenny Coral Zoas roughly 10 varieties Gorilla Nipple Candy Apple Reds Pink Zippers GB Shangrila Not sure on the lineage of the rest if they even have it Green toad stool Kryptonite Trumpet (hanging on by a thread Green Sinulara Good ole fashioned GSP Plan to upgrade the pumps to 2 RW-4s and would like to maybe add 1-2 more fish. Also planning to get lots more corals of all types to fill it up as it is kinda bare right now.
  8. I would recommend to all new reefers. Invest in a rodi unit and a refractometer and mix your own slat water it will save time and money in the long run and will also insure that the water is mixed to the same salinity and PH each time. if you removed bioballs and added crushed coral it will take some time to build up the bacteria that was lost when the bio balls were removed and may be going through a cycle. Sounds though that you are doing the right thing with water changes and that being patient will pay great dividends in the long run. Good luck and Happy Reefing
  9. When curing live rock either new dry rock or previously live but dried out rock I have always placed it in a large container with salt water and a power head and placed a large amount of GFO or other phosphate sponge to absorb the leaching Phosphates. as far as making the rock live again a scoop of sand from a well established system are a great way to add some bio diversity to the rock while it is curing. If you are looking to speed things up you can also add nitrifying bacteria to the rock while it is curing. However there is no fast way to get rid of the phosphates that just takes time. Which is OK because often bad things happen to reefs when we try and rush things. Slow and steady is the best way for long term success.
  10. It has been my experience that it is easy to over do the feeding of corals. If you have fish and light most corals will be happy. Oyster feast or similar products are good and have seen great response from most corals when these are introduced. More feeding equals more waste so make sure that you stay on top of water changes and have filtration to keep up with the extra waste generated from the feeding. Amino acids can be expensive and are often stripped out by your skimmer before the corals really have a chance to feed on them. Best to make sure your skimmer is off for a period of time when do so as not to waste the product. And as always when ever you make a change to your normal routine keep a close eye on your tank parameters to ensure that the good you thought you were doing is actually beneficial to your system.
  11. That is awesome. I would like to see how the flow looks if you have a gyre on opposite ends of the tank.
  12. Any one in the Salem area have blue tubs that they could frag. Looking for the real deal small tight polyps with the rich blue solid color polyp. One of my first ever Zoas and the one regret losing the most.
  13. I think these open up some great options for flow in peninsula style tanks where some times power head placement can be a bit awkward. I just don't like paying over $200 to try out a pump.
  14. oops should pay more attention did not see you had already posted the link.
  15. Got it covered ordered 2 RW-4 from amazon for $96 not bad considering I think that was what I paid a few years back for my first wp10.
  16. I feel your pain I had a shrimp loving hawk fish once as well. He also really like blue legged hermit crabs
  17. FTS Trying to rebuild after many set backs in the last year including burst seams on a Nuvo38 where a lot of corals and fish did not survive. But I never gave up and I am back and rebuilding.
  18. Wow Soft That is an amazing Zoa garden. Thanks for sharing.
  19. Howdy Folks, Looking for some more flow had one of my WP-10 die a while back and never replaced it been battling some cyano and so it is time. Please let my know what you have I am down in the Salem area now . Thanks
  20. I would like to get more info on the dosser how old is it and how heavily used was it do you have any pictures?
