  1. The thing is that I have to reduce it so I can fit the bulkheads on the tank that's going under it. I also plan on having a pump line going directly back into the sump, and possibly one or two small lines into the lower tank as well. Every place that leads to where water comes out (drains or pump) will have it's own dedicated valve. I'm not sure if I'll go with gate valves or ball valves yet though.
  2. So I've talked my parents into letting me plumb the tanks (55g and 33L) through the wall and have the sump in my room(laugh)(rock2). So I have just a few questions. First, I'm going to reduce the DT drain pipe from 1.25" to 1" pvc and split it into 3 1" pvc parts. What can I expect from doing this as far as flow? Secondly, would it cost more to to pvc or vinyl tubing for as much as the plumbing as possible? Thirdly, what's the best way to get through the wall?
  3. Mine went out for about 3 minutes this afternoon. But I thought I would go out about so I hooked up some powerheads to a car jumper, and plugged that into the wall. For less than 50 bucks you can run a power head probably >6 hours at a time.
  4. Wow, I never even thought about water the level effecting the skimmer before. I guess that would make sense though. I'm going with a standard 55 gallon tank for a sump, so 10" of water shouldn't be too hard to achieve. I just have to have a 10" baffle for the skimmer section right?
  5. I'm not sure if you've got a auto shut off valve on your RO system, if you don't, get one before you use the float valve. If you don't use one, water will continue going through the drain line, even if the RO line has stopped.
  6. If you vote for something else, please make a suggestion.
  7. With the addition of a 33L and a 55 gallon sump, my system will be push passed the 65 gallons my coralife skimmer is rated for(rock2). Assuming that I don't get a great deal on a skimmer for anyone on here, I need to start saving for a skimmer upgrade. Vote on which you think is the best skimmer for the money and for my system.
  8. Aaron at The Nautilus. He's got some crazy sweet tank for sale right now. (clap)How'd you guess(laugh)? You'd be surprised at how many people say "Nice Guitar" DOH! Even when they see me carrying this thing around.
  9. Keep in mind that the tank has baffles, and they're pretty thick. Here's a picture:
  10. Here's an article about someone doing it in Cali. You can check out how he solves the light problem. http://www.fishchannel.com/fish-magazines/freshwater-and-marine-aquarium/july-2008/backyard-coral-farming.aspx
  11. How about a banded pipefish in that small of a tank? Are there any small species of mantis shrimp that would do well in there? Any other cool invertebrates?
  12. Sweet. This came at an awesome time, I'm playing in a musical right now and it's an extra $450 in my pocket.
  13. What would be the lighting for mini maxi's in a 10" deep tank(laugh)? Would 2 T5's work?
  14. I'm not to worried about it, this tank is more for species that I couldn't keep/never be able see in the DT. I may even add a chamber like this: I could extend my skimmer outlet to that it goes all the way over to the return pump chamber. I could also make it so that one of the drain lines goes into the skimmer chamber, and one into the coulerpa chamber.
  15. Just curious to see what people think could live comfortably in one of the four 11"x11"x11" cubes in the new tank I bought. I'm thinking shrimp/goby pair (that's why I bought the tank after all), maybe pipefish or dwarf seahorses, mini maxi's with sexy shrimp, or a small species of mantis shrimp. If anyone has a specific species in mind let me know!
  16. I think I've decided. I'm going to build a 54"L x 28"W x 54"H stand. The top shelf will have the DT on it. The DT will drain into the 33L which will be positioned 4"-8" above the sump, which will be behind the 33L. The 33L drain lines will go into the sump (via filter socks), there I'll have the skimmer and the return pump.
  17. Title says it all. PM me with what you got.
  18. So I got this SWEET tank from Aaron at The Nautilus (acrylic 33L with 4 chambers drilled w/ bulkheads) for $60. This is going to be my refugium, I'm hoping to get one or two shrimp/goby pairs, maybe some pipefish, and possibly some mini maxi's. Any body have ideas for a pump to use? It has duel input/output. Water comes in at the end chambers and out in the middle chambers if that helps.
  19. I did mention sponsorship to him. I even talk to him about Douglas, but I'll be sure to tell him about the meeting next time I'm in there.
  20. *Not sure if this is where to post this, feel free to move. I just stopped by to see Aaron at The Nautilus. He had just got this weeks shipment in and he got some sweet stuff in. He had a couple of frags of Miami hurricane chalice, Acropora's, and some other SPS/LPS. He had some other chalices, montiporas, rics, mini maxis, all sorts of stuff. Not to mention that he just bought out a wholesaler's tanks. He's got everything from 10g to 125g. He had a cube (not sure on dimensions but probably close to 12"), and this sweet custom tank that looked like is was about 36"x24"x12". I know he's not a sponsor but people should really go in there and check his new stuff out.
