  1. The water wasn't coming down uniformly on the screen. I suspect that it has something to do with the cut I did on the pvc.
  2. If you read through the rest of the thread some people have nothing but this filtering their tank, and their parameters are 0 all around. I'd say that means it works.
  3. I tried it earlier today but I wasn't getting good flow down the screen. So I was wondering if anyone knew how to make it work. Also, I had the idea to hook one up on a surge device, and was wondering what others thought.
  4. Just wondering if anyone has built an algae screen filter onto their sump? If you don't know what it is here's a nifty link for you: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180385
  5. - Buying a montipora without knowing that it needed strong lighting. - Thinking that my skimmer was broken because it wasn't working in the bucket of fresh water. - Filling the tank without putting the return pipe onto the overflow. - Pulling the heater out of my mixing bucket without unplugging it. Let's just say it broke. - Not securing the ATO tube after refilling the bucket. - The recent fiasco with the hammer coral. Who knows what else I could be doing wrong right now
  6. Here what it looks like this morning. It's not nearly as bad as it was.
  7. I can't believe what I just did. I was doing a water change, and what i do cut the flow off to the tank, then suck water out from the tank with a hose. I've never had a problem with this before, but tonight I wasn't paying attention because the cat was trying to investigate what I was doing, I a dragged the hose over my hammer coral!!! I looked up just in time to see the polyps retracting. It looks like some of the tentacles burst. What can I expect to see happening to it now? Should I do another water change? Will those heads be ok?
  8. Do you think he'd partner with a red banded pistol shrimp?
  9. I've got a 55g. I think I found my solution. h2odvl, i would love to borrow those until I can get one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/DUAL-TWIN-WAVE-MAKER-AQUARIUM-PUMP-POWERHEAD-3200-GPH-/230562015938?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35ae912ac2#ht_3129wt_1139 or two of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/2-1300GPH-WAVE-MAKER-CORAL-FISH-PUMP-AQUARIUM-POWERHEAD-/180589171555?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a0bf41363#ht_3262wt_1139 I know they're cheap but I talked to some people that said their's have lasted 9 months so far and they're still working great.
  10. I'm looking at adding some flow to my tank because of some cyano-bacteria. I'm look for pretty much anything with a magnet. My tank is a weird partly covered acrylic so it's impossible to hang anything on the tank. I looking at paying under $30, or maybe borrowing one (or a couple) until the red is gone.
  11. I've got a tank that is running empty right now and i noticed a couple of days ago that it is teeming with amphopods. I was just wondering if I can trap them so I can possible move them to another tank or give to some one with a Mardrin Goby.
  12. I'm looking at getting some cyclops-eeze. Just wondering if there's a big difference between frozen and dried.
  13. 27, although I'd love for you to prove me wrong with pictures.
  14. ok, so at least he's still doing what he's supposed to be doing. Is garlic guard ok to use with what I have: leather, toadstool, sinularia, frogspawn, hammer, zoas, star polyps. Coral beauty, goby, cardinal, peps, pistol, and the skunk.
  15. My orange skunk clown has had it's mouth open for about a week or 2 now and it's starting to worry me. Anybody know what this could be? I also noticed today that it sucks in the tentacles from my hammer coral, and spits them out.
  16. Title says it all. I've got a guy in NYC that wants to have some fish shipped from Vancouver to him but the current owner doesn't know how. Just wondering if anyone up there can.
  17. I've got a 55 gallon, I don't necessarily want to go all metal halide, I'm just looking to add a 70w or 150w to add to the 94w of florescent lighting I have now.
  18. What's the difference between that fixture and say a halogen floodlight?
  19. What's the "safest" cheap metal halide? I'd really like to get a 150w or 175w but I really can't spend $200.
