1. So today I was cleaning my tank and the moment I stuck my hand in the tank. My very lovely, very brave maroon clown fish mustered up his defending mechanism and attacked my hand drawing blood, till I took my hand out of the tank and any where near his Rose bubble tip anemone. Might I add a almost daily routine for me and my morron clown. So here's the food for thought. If my one little clown does that to me after years of me loving him and feeding him and what not. what might happen, if I was a snorkler off a reef where and came acossed a large family of maroon clowns housing in one large anemone, would I be repeatedly attacked till I left the area, like a sworm of killer bees defending their hive, till you die? COULD THERE REALLY BE KILLER CLOWNS? Should we warn the general population?
2. i have yet to have any problems with sallys being agressive. yet that is, though I did have a sally that ate polyps... boy did that suck. but i do feed alot of algae so maybe he wont feel the need to go after my nemos. I know he wont go after my mandrin unless he has a death wish...
3. It's normaly that a bta do that when they digest they turn out their stomach. some times for a day and then they will be fine. normally if he's like that for a couple days then it's a sign something is wrong. either bad water current, over feeding, bad water, or not enough light for your anemone. normally i believe it's the light or bad water quality. but a day he's most likely digesting
4. so I live in springfield and I am interested next weekend to go to one reef store within about two hours from here. what one would people recemmend that is a cant miss place... I have been to all of them here in town and now I want to explore.. I need opinions here...
5. So good new my dads rbta just split today so he gave me his new one. he only wants two in his tank and so he gave me it. must be a rbta omen... that I should always have one. I did cover my surface drain intake with this cover i sewed from filter floss and then rubber band it. here's a pic of my new anenome and the filter cover. well what you can see of the cover behind some of the rocks also here is my new sally light foot I got to take the place of my beloved shrimp and full pic of that tank this one is just my fifteen long tank.
6. open brain So here is a pic of my open brain, he's in the back so the pic isn't that great but here it is and then here's a pic of my other brain as well He was doing good till i had the slime and then after I got rid of that I got a hair algae out break which is now almost under control just this coral has it left. I didn't want to mess with it when it wasn't doing good. Though my sally light foot is doing good at cleaning it
7. the one that is doing bad is an open brain and the other is a true brain. no light has change in the tank or current. I cant take a pic yet but when the light comes on I will take a pic
8. So I have had this open brain coral for a two years now and it is starting to turn a little yellow from brown. and I think he is trying to die. why? my huge brain coral on the other side of the tank is fine as well as my other corals. I have only a few narrius snails in the tank, and anemone, two clowns, spotted mandrin, and my star polyps, zoos, hairy mushroom, and some other corals. none touching each other. I did put some red slime remover in the tank a week ago, cause I ended up with a cantaminated rock and it spread in my tank. but I did follow the directions word for word. my ph is 8.0 gravity is at 1.024. no amnonia, not nitrites, no nitrates. calcium is good. alk. is good reading. I only use rodi water. and the tank is always at 80 degrees. so why my open brain and what can I do it to save it.
9. So I broke the law please cuff me and.. what ever you do to bad girls who break the law.. I'm ready

tank sorrow

So last night I got home and my camel shrimp I have had for two years died, and two weeks prior to this my three year old emerald crab also died. In the same tank.. In my 20 long tank last night I notice my rose bubble tip I have had for a year decided to wonder around my tank for the first time. this morning when the light came on I couldn't find him. so I took apart the tank and no anemone. so then I next I looked in my eheim filter thinking he might have gotten sucked up. no anemone there. I was just about to give up when I noticed my aqua clear 20 wasn't running. I only use it for my surface drain. i don't even have the bottom part running, but the intake didn't have my anemone either, but it still wasn't running so I took it apart. and at the bottom of the filter media was my very chopped up rbta.. Im so sad. He was just perfect... and my maroon clown is so sad.. now I need a new one that is small. good luck to me I guess...(sad)
11. I had an emerald nip at everything I had in that tank. he loves polyps and zoos. couldnt catch the bugger.. I just started putting in algae clip with algae and walla it stopped. just kept switching up the algae types to keep the crab interested. but the leathers were always a problem with them. not because the crab was eating it but because leathers wont come out is something is on them all the time. and mine just never fed because the crab walked on it to clean it of debre all the time and the leather became sick so I moved the leather to a crab free tank and now its doing alot better. but you may just want to get your crab to the sump
12. I have one and it has fazes where its out and great then small for a few days. It got stung once by another coral but a branch survives and I moved it took a couplle weeks then it was back out. Mine hasn't growns to fast. my tank is tiny a really full right now and I have no proble with it. I also Have a 90 gallon eheim on the tank and a aqua clear 50 on the tank running a surface drain so I gues I have the filteration for it. being a fifteen gallon and all. but I think its just beautiful in my tank. I think its easy to keep. just cut off a branch every once in a while and giv it to some one...
13. I love mine. on the 90 acylic I have at the crushed coral I use the mag. I stop about an inch above the crushed coral that way it cant get any in the mag. however no matter what i seem to use by the crush coral it always seems to get scatches. I have this product I can use to buff the scatches out without having to break down the tank. it works great. But I have discovered the best way not to get scatches is to make a plenon... no matter what I do the acylic scatches. Glass with the mag floats I don't seem to ever have a problem. i wish they could just make a tank half and half.. so u could drill the tank easy like acrylic and acrylic last longer, but without the scatches like glass, but without the worpinging like in acylics. oh and on acrylics since the tank corners are rounded with out the seals the mags can be tricky to clean with
14. I lost my sallylight foot the other day, and my fish when he buried himself for a week. but he's a yellow wrasse. they do that... I also lost my flame angel. found him a week later being digestes out of my anemone.. sad story..
15. Thanks for the donations for the meeting today.. great stuff(rock2)(rock2)
16. Thanks douglas for the fun and great looking tank.. way to go.. two thumbs up
17. cool thanks ya Im fraging tommorrow. Id just like to add diversity...
18. I will be there, but I didn't get an invite via e mail and my dad will be there too
19. I will be at the springfield meeting and things I will be bringing to trade or sell. The hammer head is just one head, not the entire coral. let me know if anyone is interested. I could really use the help to clear out my tank a bit...
20. Id suggest getting live brine shrimp. they tend to only eat alive food.. and they constantly graze for food all day. you could order copepods online too.. they can take a couple of days... Some times you can get a mandrin to eat non living food but often not.. alot of the ones you get at the store are live caught and that is what they eat in the wild, copepods... so I hope you have luck with him....
21. free kenya tree coral. just a bit big for my small 20gallon
22. r u coming to the springfield may meeting this weekend... that way I might pic them up there?
