cuddle fish

so I was at aqua serine and they had theses two cute cuddle fish about an inch and half or so.. I want one. not in my reef tank. I don't think they are compatable.. they changed colors to their surroundings. they say they are camelans of the ocean.. I don't think they are official fish. they are in the squid and octopus family.. Im thinking I wanna set up another tank. I hear they have a cuddle bone ulike squid and octopus so they dont excape... Has Anyone tried them?
3. So I just bought another pistol shrimp for another tank.... I know most pistol shrimp Pair with their gobys..Which all my other pistol shrimp have. So My new one is a bulleye pistol shrimp. some people have said that it wont pair with a goby, others have said that it will. has any one had experence with this type? Also some say that it isnt reef friendly, when aqua serine said it is... as well as other web sights. will it go after my fish? I have a midnight angel in the tank and two false percs in there anemone.....
4. HId lighting Yay, or nay
5. So while looking at my foster and smith catolog today.. I discovered a light fixture with HID lights... What are they and has anyone got input on them. according to the catolog the aquatic HID/t-5 with lunar lights has no fans. they arent needed. internal ballast, and one cord for everything. .. Any imput on these. I have never seen them till today
6. My house is 70 degrees. I have air conditioning... i did do another huge waterchage today. My fish are all small, just clowns small gobys and pygmy angels.. really they arent for fish just for corals
7. Hi, my name is tracy and Im an addict. I have eight tanks of my own. In one hour I went to the store and I bought some sand. broke down my tank. added sand, and now tommorrow am getting a new pistol shrimp and goby.. I have managed to talk everyone in my family to buy reef tanks. That makes five other tanks as well as my friend shane. I go over there and when they aren't looking I change things in their tanks and do water changes. I go to every fish store that I can, and I am constantly shopping on line for new items for my fish. I always have two five gallon buckets of salt on hand.. just in case, and I managed to have a tank on my kitchen table.. just so I can raise clown fry. And Im not suppose to have any fish tanks in my one bedroom apartment... I just cant stop... and my husband is cool with this, so he's an addict too... I have spent alot of money on the best rodi machine that I could find, and I take showers in the bathtub with it... I suppose I might need help... But wheres the harm....
8. So I was having some nitrate problems in my 12 gallon bio, and it just wasn't going away. no matter what I did. it always came back. I finally figured out what my problem was. It's one of my tanks that has a plenom in it. Most my other tanks have sand in it. I wasnt able to get to the bottom to clean out the debree, so today I broke my entire tank down, and moved everything temperarly into my baby clown fish tank and I put in about two inches of aragonite sand in. It wasn't as small of mm sand as I wanted but they didnt have the sugar size grain aragamax I wanted, and at this late hour of night you take what I can get. I got live aragonite .5-1.5mm size instead.though I didn't need live stuff. petco had it on sale and it was the smallest grain they had. I always forget how much sand really makes corals color pop..... And now I can also get another pistol shrimp and goby....yay for me.. It only took me an hour todo the change over. the tank is already cleared up...
9. So yester day I added another rock to the baby tank and a new filter. I got a canister submerable cascade 300. to go with the other filter in the tank.the faom filter ran with a power head. so far so good. I am hoping that now I will have more water current in the tank. and a cleaner tank too
10. nothing is really different in the 20 long. I have an inch of sugar size aragonite sand like all the rest. a eheim canister filter with the spray bar out take. on the left end of the tank, and a aqua clear 50 just todo the surface drain. all my other tanks have the same. the only difference in fish in that tank is two gobys for my two pistol shrimp. the tank are basically set up the same.. if anything the 20 long has less filteration because of its size. my fish are rather small to the most part. the gobys are maybe two inches long.... the live rock is about the same in each tank as well....maybe a little less because of the lesser depth. Because its a 20 long and not a tall tank. But I believe they are about the same. That's why this has thrown me for a loop
11. well I first tested with a API test for nitrates then again with an instant ocean test today. I got the same answer with both tests.... in all eight tanks.... I dont have any leathers and very few zoo's lots of mushrooms in all tanks star polyps. hammer head. torch corals frog spawn, and clove polyps and anemone in each tank. a brain coral in each tank and thats about it. I have just about one bunch of zoo's in each tank and thats it... they didnt fair well till recently. I got some evil emerald crabs I couldnt catch without taking the tank apart that kept eating them all. Just recently got them all gone so they are starting to flurish again. never again will I buy emerald crabs....
12. sure... as long as it's stiff enough
13. So my fry tank gets many cleanings and one of the parts to that is the bottom glass gets scraped with a credit card and then I suck up the yuck. I had this problem with not getting it all out of the water and it going to the tanks bottom. Solution: I Took my walmart gift card. and I attached my fry tank siphon hose to it with tape. Hospital tape. seen below. and as I scrape the bottom of my tank, it siphones most the yuck before it can float away into the water.
14. Clowns fry can take up to six months to raise to adult hood. for sale. some less from what I understand.. barecuda would know the exacts more than I would being that he hatches more breeds and has had more experience than I. however its so cool to watch them grow. it was worth all I put into it. I can promise you that. when they are hatched they are clear with a tummy then about 14 days, give or take, they metemorphise, getting colors like their parents some time with more stripes than their parents some time less. You get to train them too. like to teach them about hiding and anemones. Getting to teach them to run to the other side of the tank when you clean so they dont take a ride down the tunnel of the scary bucket .. you get to teach them to live with currents in the water, and mine are very friendly. I have tought mine within two days that its pudding time AKA food time when the filters go off. they all swim out of their hiding holes to the top of the tank only when the filter is off. So cool
15. So I have eight tanks. ranging from 5 1/2 gallon to 40 gallons. at least at my apartment. heres the stumper. I tested my tank today I had all these tanks for over two years never a problem now this. All tanks get the 20% waterchange twice a month. On the same day. they all have eheims on them except the smallest tank all 90 gallon eheims. same filter medias. etc... they all have three fish in them. A nice amount of blue legged hermits and some snails and my corals of course Last night when I tested my tanks I had no ammonia, no nitrites, ph 8.4. no phosforus. But all but one had a 40ppm nitrates. So I went and did a big water change. Today the same test was done and the same answer came out. so I did another water change and again same answer. I tested my clean salt water and it read no nitrates and I use ro water. I only feed with the filters off and small amounts every two days. I have my lights on maybe five hours a day. with an hour shut off time in the middle.. My tank that didn't have any nitrates was my 20 long tank. I have a maroon clown in it and two gobys and two different breeds of pistol shrimp. could my gobys and my pistol shrimps what is keeping the nitrates away? Thats the only tank that has them. the others I have sally light foots and hermits in them. Or is there another answer? and why nitrates out of no where? Any one?
16. Hey I have a great book you can borrow on them barecuda recemended it and I have hatched them as well. if you need any help Im just in springfield
17. I have a 12 gallon tank with a 90 gallon eheim canister filter. you can never have enough filteration. The way I always see it. In nature the reef may be constantly having waves crash upon it. so water flow is normally never an issue. However if you have a coral that doesnt see to like the current that is often solved by just moving the coral. Most tanks no matter what you seem to do always have water dead spots. I think with what you have in your tank, the shrimp just died, and your crabs just ate him/her. I do love my tiger pistol shrimp though...http://www.aboutfishonline.com/articles/tiger-pistol-shrimp.html heres a pic of the shrimp. they are about an inch sizes about. huge red antienie. very active.. though it took him about a week to come out of hiding. now I have these cute little tunnels in my tank. its neat to watch. May I also state that I did buy my shrimp and goby seperate and they found each other within an half hour. the pistol shrimp taps on the rock and the goby comes runny. they hide in the same holes and often my goby stands watch through the day outside the hole I also have a randall pistol shrimp. they are smaller and he has his own goby. a different breed goby. both in the same tank. Its a 20 gallon. they never mess with each other. One set is on each side of the tank. heres a pic http://www.freshmarine.com/randall-pistol-shrimp.html
18. So I had to do it. i had this small frag that soon turned into a beautiful rock of star polys. anemone however was getting a little irratated because he was loosing his rock and he was there first and the star polyps were starting to attach to everything so I got out my chissel and hammer and I broke the rock into pieces givin a few to my tad and his bigger tank and a few to my sister and her tank. I could have sold the rock for at least $100 but wheres the fun in that and my anemone has been on that rock for ever never moved so I just wasnt going to mess with him.. and now there is just one and the anemone is so happy. but now I have more room in my tank and I will just have to get more rocks. what am I going to do with myself. Guess I get to shop more.. darn...(whistle)
19. well what other creatures do you have in ur tank? some fish and inverts like to pick on shrimps. some shrimp just die, stress, molting what not. I don't feed my shrimp. the scavenges on the rocks and sand. I don't have any glass anemones.. My shrimp most of them are over two years. But they don't live too long normally. He most likely died and your other scavengers ate him. thats normally what happens. My shrimp always come out when its feeding time as long as I step a bit away from my tanks. Id just suggest another shrimp. cleaners and peppermints are great.. If you like to get rid of some of your brissle worms I hear coral banded shrimp love to eat them. I myself like my tiger pistol shrimp with my goby. they really keep my sand in my tank clean. but they often will eat another shrimp. Unless you have a big tank where both can be co- exsist and never meet... I had a camel shrimp and he was always out for about two years never had a problem with him, but I have heard they can some time go after green mushrooms. Mine never did... But im sure there are alot of options...
20. Well my brain is very fragile. But also in ways not. do you have an open brain or just a normal brain? My open one is more touchy. Though I have to agree with him saying it will most likely be ok, as long as it didn't get crushed by your chalice. my crab and my fish clime and swim through it all the time, though I never move my brain cause it doesn't like to be touched and it stings my skin.. You may have a small die back, however I don't think so as long as it was just for a day...
21. I did the food in the net trap to catch mine. it took a while for them to think it was safe to go into the net for it. about two hours..
22. I got a bucket of salt for 48.00 bucks and 8.00 dollars shipping at dr foster and smith. Got it in two days too.... they always have good name brands. kent marine, seachem etc...
