  1. Alrighty, I can do that. I just figured that the extra light would help them. The previous owner didn't have the light on very often because her husband didn't like the tank....so they were kinda sad. They've been starting to open up over the last 24 hours since I set it up. I'll turn the lights off now though. Thanks!
  2. I got my new tank!! Yay! Picked up my new 40g acrylic AIO tank yesterday and got it all set up. The tank came with the stand, tank, canopy, 150w HQI and 2 VHOs, LR and sand. All of the rock looks really nice, and the corals that it came with are starting to perk up a little. I added water, powered it up, and left the lights on all night so that the corals could have some TLC time after the shock of a move. So far everything looks good. I figure that I'll have a minor diatom bloom since all of the water is new, but all of the rock and sand was well established....so I'm not too worried there. Here are a couple rotten pics to get an idea of the tank.
  3. Those look like baby aptasia to me, and I had the same thing happen when I used the aptasia X....which is why I don't recommend it anymore. It works great, as long as you get 100% of the central disk covered before the anem. sucks its tentacles back in. If you miss any, even a tiny amount then they send out their stupid little larvae. That is what happened to me anyways. Within a couple days of using the aptasia X I had about 100 of those little baby turds. I vote yes to adding several more peppermint shrimp. Good luck!
  4. Here are the photos that I have....sorry they suck so much! The purple mushroom is really much more purple/green than in this photo. It didn't like being that close to the light and thus turned a little brown-ish. Now that I've fragged and its near the bottom it has much prettier colors.
  5. no love for the mushrooms? Really? They reproduce like bunnies, and they're pretty!
  6. I posted this in the want to trade section, but maybe more folks will see it here. I have 2 green/purple mushrooms on separate pieces of LRR that I'd like to trade for......something. Let me know what you have. Preferably some sort of softie as I have no talent for the stoney corals. I'm moving up to a bigger tank this week so I'd love to get something new to go in it! I also have a rock with 2 green tonga mushrooms that I got from Garrett back when he tore his old system down. They're really pretty! I'm not set on getting rid of these, but if someone had some sort of pretty zoa to trade for them, I'd be game. Let me know what you have!
  7. my little Holly dog would LOVE to play with Pickle. Perhaps I need to come do some tank staring.....
  8. I was just talking to Jason at CR yesterday and he was mentioning that zoas and other softies tend to really like water with a higher level of nutrient. Maybe your limited water changes are actually helping your zoas.....wouldn't be the case with SPS, but since they all have their little niche, perhaps the zoas just prefer to be in less crystaline water.
  9. I really like that lubbocks wrasse. I hadn't thought of one before. Is it easy to convince them to eat processed food or are they pretty tough to transition from just picking at things in the LR?
  10. OMG! Adorable!! Pickle is too cute!
  11. welcome to the forums! Its a good group of people, I hope that you enjoy yourself here.
  12. hahahaha, that was a particularly bad day. I guess its what I get for not drinking often. But....point well taken. No FW dips on hang over days.
  13. That's really good logic. I guess I had just always heard that tangs belong in tanks larger than 75 gallons. Granted I had never considered a baby....plus a growing fish is a grand excuse to upgrade. On the note of upgrading.....looks like I finally got the S**T end of my poor QT practices (or non practices as the case may be). Seems that I've got a case of zoa eating nudis in my 15g cube. Thankfully I'll be getting the new tank at the end of this week and can turn the cube into a QT tank for any new critters. Currently in the process of FW dips, will add iodine if necessary, but I've heard that RO alone should do the job. Any thoughts on this?
  14. That photo is photoshopped without a doubt. The glare from the center is too different from the glare of the skirt, it appears rounded like an eye, and the junction of the center to the skirt is REALLY well defined....as if someone cropped it from another photo. Would be cool if it was real though.....
  15. How I would love a helfichi fire fish....unfortunately I also like to be able to grocery shop, pay my car payment, and rent all in the same month as maintaining my tank. Super expensive fish aren't in the plans....just my dreams.
