Here is the appropriate approach for all chromis.  When you see them in the store and you think "oh, I like those"

Walk out of store and drive home.

Funny, I remember cycling tanks with these back in the day and then being "stuck" with them because they were tough and always survived the tank break in.  Obviously a different scenario these days....  (yes, this falls in the "when I was a kid" category)

I picked up the jawbreaker that Sirena won thanks to @albertareef nominating her. Her Seahorse tank isn’t quite ready for it so I’m holding it for her. This pandemic has been tough so it’s nice to have some bright spots and members like you who want to spread joy.  You have awesome very clean and colorful tanks 😍. You know what you are doing. Wish I could have stayed longer.

Glad you were able to pick that up Kim!  I have been so busy I still don't have mine!

It was kind of funny.  Talked to John on the phone. We was like..watch the reflection, don't burn yourself.  I was thinking, dude, you are soo soft.

Three minutes in..what's burning?  OUCH. My shirt.

It works ok, at close range it is good but honestly, it is not as near as powerful as i would like.  At about 12" away its pretty useless.  It is dangerous though.. so that is cool.

I can't remember the wattage but after like 10 minutes i was pretty convinced the wattage rating is false.  The big problem is it doesn't focus tight enough 😞

Can’t say he didn’t warn you!  Given we are two for two with shirt burning I think I may skip a tryout - probably burn the house down.

Yes, I've been a snooker fan for years, but it's so hard to find snooker tables at most billiards halls (one at Sam's in the Hollywood district, and one at McMenamins Edgefield), but then with the lockdown I wasn't playing at all.

Love Sam’s. Val owns that building - which is the only way I think they survive - would be too expensive if they had to lease space to put their tables in.

  5. This is a great idea and thank you to @Manny Tavanfor launching this thread and contributing the prizes!

I love this forum for all the individuals who are willing to step up and offer advice and help to those either just starting out or struggling with issues they can’t get a handle on.   I have met so many generous and thoughtful people on here it is really heartening to see - which makes it hard to nominate just one. That said, I will pick     @Sirena for all her behind the scenes contribution over the years. A jawbreaker would be a great way to start off a new seahorse tank 😀

Oh hey @Bicyclebill, one last question for ya.

Do you run pretty much full speed also?

I am running the kamoer at about full flow (140 mls/min) to get enough flow to register on my flow meter.  This shows on the APEX FMM as about 3.5L per hour (one of the measurements is wrong, probably APEX).

Any less than this is too little for the FMM to register unfortunately.

The FMM is used to alert if for some reason nothing is flowing through the reactor. For example, if the pump died, clogged, peristaltic tubing broke etc.

What pH set point are you running at Jeremy?  I know you have a large volume but curious if it's more neutral than "normal" with that flow rate.

We discussed at our last Board Meeting about having a guest speaker in the near future. Give us some names of speakers that you would like to see. Then I can make a list for everyone to vote on. Pull out that bucket list.

There were some mentioned at the meeting but, sadly, I can't recall who they all were.

I'd love to connect a Trident to your Apex to monitor your tank for a few days so all of us would know your magic numbers that grow such amazing corals!

I know how much Holly loves tech on her tank so I'm sure this idea will go over well

Been awhile since I updated.  All the heavy feeding I've been doing (trying to get new fishes to fatten up), have caused phosphate to shot up between 2-4ppm.  Nitrate was pretty high but got it down to 10ppm with vodka dosing.  I attempted to uses Lanthanum Chloride to reduce phosphate by dosing directly into one of the skimmer over 8hrs period.  Dose enough to reduce phosphate by 0.5ppm over total system of 850ish gal.  I though that dose was slow enough for the skimmer to remove all the precipitants, but enough escaped to suffocated 4 flame wrasses and 6 yellow tangs. 😭   I was devastated.  For now, I will live with high phosphate.

Added a couple new corals every week or so, mostly hammers and torches.  SPS frags still show good PE but haven't grown much probably due to high phosphate.  Here are some pics from tonight:

Ouch!  Sorry to hear about the fish loss - that would be devastating.  That euphyllia collection is amazing though!
