Well there is still a frag of forest fire digi that needs to be picked up if you want it.

If only I would have rang the bell when I was out there Sunday!  Will need to take the tank down pretty soon to move so probably not the time to try anything new even though I think I found the cause of the latest crash (another rusted return pump!!!!).

I was afraid some people would show up Sunday because the wrong date was posted in a thread that Flash caught. I’m sorry we missed you. You should have rang the doorbell.  I still have a frag I could have given to you and we still have leftovers!

Well it looked pretty quiet and didn’t want to interrupt your recovery 😃. Seriously bummed I missed a chance to see everyone😒.  I don’t know that I even confused the date but somehow got it in my mind it was Sunday. Yesterday was nuts anyway trying to trouble shoot a dead furnace remotely.

If your looking to save money, certainly don't start looking at the 20" long filters.  They are substantially more expensive.   The most effective solution is separate DI resins and then finish with a mixed bed.  I bet a million dollars you will blow through the anion before the cation is even getting close to being needed to be replaced.

This is a good tip.  Do you have a good source for the separate anion and cation resins?

I have thought on this one before and have a semi solution. Here is my offer.......I actually like cutting up corals, if you want to bring the corals to the shop i do this quite often for people. Using up saw blades to visit with forum folks is more than a fair trade for me :)

Hi Bret - very generous offer!  Seems like local shops have been pretty good about working with customers on things like this so I would at least ask them if you know they have a saw... Definitely could see issues with trying to loan one out.

  5. Looking great Andy!  I will need to go back through here and get caught up on the trace element discussion - sounds really promising.  Would be awesome if we could get to the point where regular Mass Spec analysis was something that was inexpensive/reliable enough to just have as an ongoing part of one's maintenance routine.  Not only would that help with the trace element supplementation but the much earlier warning on heavy metals would be awesome (don't ask).

We currently have 124 Supporting Members eligible for the raffle out of a total of 4,192 forum members, though many of those are dormant accounts.

Interesting stat and speaks to the benefit of being a member given the access to special events such as this!

  7. Thanks all for calling out the issues here.  I am sure this will always be a highly debated albeit niche issue within the larger conversations around non-native and protected species.  While there clearly are significant ecological problems related to release of non-indigenous species (see Florida for examples), broad brush and poorly thought out solutions often cause more collateral damage than help - which appears to be the case here.  As noted above, it is definitely important to stay informed and vocal on these topics when opportunity presents.  It would be nice if there was more focus on supporting sustainable alternatives that have started to appear vs. taking the path of blanket prohibitions... especially since those have generally proven ineffective long term (see Rudy's example above).  Everyone in the hobby has a vested interest in making it ecologically sound and sustainable (even if they aren't aware).
