  1. Alright, my tank is still young and bare to have much to trade so I thought I'd offer some of our famous homemade enchiladas with Spanish rice that I brought to last years Christmas party. They were a hit and we went home with an empty dish. Bob liked the idea and I'm bringing him 4. Since you would miss out because we're not doing a potluck, I'll make you 4 homemade chicken enchiladas and a side of Spanish rice, you just add the beans. It's enough for 2 adults for a dinner. I'll bring them on ice to the clubs Christmas party. Let me know what you got, pictures would be nice or ID from web. I'm wanting to add a lot more color since a lot of my corals are "reef tan". I've upgraded to 250 watt halides recently. Other colorful LPS/ Monti & other SPS's would work too. Here are some crummy photos to show what I've already got, wanting a larger variety with more punch (no actinics running in photo). I've recently drooled over the zoos posting on our site and there are some awesome looking Zoos in the tanks. Any takes other than Bob? (whistle) Maybe I should change the heading for Zoos for Food. Hey, when you're not working, food is a commodity.
  2. Ran across this tonight. You can supposedly get a free replacement Stainless Steel shaft and a concentrator with a fish guard. Mine came with both and haven't even tried it without the concentrator since I liked the idea of a fish guard....lost enough due to sucking stupidity with my guard down so to speak. You have to use that to keep the fish guard on as it slips over the end of your pump and snaps into place, no need to remove pump from system to install. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1241399&perpage=25&pagenumber=1
  3. Thanks, I'm feeling younger by the minute

http://ozreef.org/diy_plans/techniques/gluing_acrylic.html " "Bostik Titan Bond Plus, epoxy glue that will bond acrylic to glass." I haven't tried it, but supposedly it works.
  5. If I remember from the old All Glass Aquarium site, they would actually pre drill a tank before shipping upon request and extra fee. Might give them a call.
  6. Yeah, I wouldn't mind taking a look. I'll be in downtown Oregon City this week for jury duty.....ick...... No jury trials on Monday, but it's day to day. PM me when good times would be good for you. (it's not like I'm that far away, I go to the West Linn library about once/week. I rigged a temp ballast holder and it's much better than the VHO's for colors. The zoos I have don't all look brown. It's not as much as blue actinics only, but nicer. My red palys show red and the oranges look orange etc. I stuck the VHO blues on and can't really see too much difference except for a candy cane and hydnophora. I'm running topless now, and now I'm going to have to kick the heater up. We may just leave them exposed, except I'm a little worried about getting "sun" burned with the light shining on us on the couch. It's great for reading though, and will save energy without having to turn lights on to walk around the house now
  7. Another idea, if these are what you're wanting How about putting the tank in front of the beam and enclose the closet/alcove into a sump/frag room? All kinds of room for the best equipment in there. Also, I would suggest we have a club meeting at your house when the tank is in. If you need help installing, I'd be willing to help, just ask.
  8. Well, I answered my own question. Got a Koalia 4 and the flow hits the end of a 6 foot tank, bounces off the wall and back around the other side of the island. Makes like a whirlpool effect. Quite impressive and dead quiet except on startup.
  9. I was wrong, they're 1 sided on an HQI 250 ballast. It came with a couple of 20K Coralife bulbs, it will probably be a few days 'til I can rig up a temporary canopy to hang them from. Edit: Coralvue bulbs, not Coralife.
  10. I got some awesome colored zoos this weekend and I was having my blackout weekend and only had the VHO actinics on and thought Wow! Monday when turning on the 50/50 actinic whites with the blue actinics, the colors were OK, but didn't have the nice fluorescent pop at all. Some were hard to tell which was which. My moonlight cold cathode lights make them look neon as well. I'm upgrading to halides finally and frying my brain researching bulbs. I'm leaning towards the Hamilton 250watt 14k bulbs. Anyone using these? Do they give good growth and POP as well? Are other bulbs better for that? I would like to only use vho blues for dawn/dusk and not for the WOW factor. I don't have the budget to buy, test, replace, buy, test, replace bulbs like I've seen many people do to find the color satisfaction.
  11. I figured out why the FED Ex tracking # given didn't work, they shipped it USPS. Someone needs to pay attention there . My batteries were dead, good thing they sent 2 extras. My water reads 52 and nothing to compare other than my refrigerator filtered water....uh, 52. Guess I should have replaced that filter a few years ago. Other site I read, people said the numbers kept changing. I put it in several times and got the same reading every time. I wonder if those folks didn't read the instructions first about air bubble, depth placement etc.
  12. I've been toying with this for months, ever since my wife brought up the fact of what to do with a tank during vacation time in her classroom. (not to mention weekly/monthly maintenance) This was touched a little bit Sunday, but what if we had dedicated members to "adopt" a particular nearby school/ school tank of their choice. That person can help with a school they may live close to, and best of all, commit to helping move the tank back to their home and school during the summer break. Like if I ended up with putting one in June's classroom, I would be glad to take over that part for her. It does scare me to think of having to move a large tank back and forth all the time, but not many options unless someone was to come into the school to feed the fish every few days during janitor hours... That might be something to look into, or maybe getting a key to let an authorized person in to feed the fish during the summer. For instance, if we left a tank in my wife's classroom, it's too far away from SE 92nd and Stark to drive every few days from Damascus. I wouldn't do it. But if say, someone lived close by and volunteered to feed, do light maintenance, check on fish etc., that may work and never have to lug a 55 gallon tank home. That person can also be the "go to" guy if the teacher has questions or needs help. PNWMAS adopt a fish program? Good idea? Bad? Any thoughts or other ideas, because I think vacations is our biggest obstacle.
  13. Sounds cool. I'd ask James if he could just glue the tanks together on the spot if you were to do 2. Just connect the 2 large diameter holes with clear acrylic tubes. If you had a corner wall, you could do them in a V and use an elbow to connect. If you didn't connect the 2, you could have an agressive reef and a non. If you pull the connection off, I'd always feed the fish right above the connection so you have them trained to feed close to that built in fish trap:D
  14. I bought an open spiral fluorescent daylight bulb for about $7 at I believe the local Home Depot? Been awhile. I was browsing the other day and they now have some in the reflectors, but didn't get to check light ratings. Might blackout light to part of your sump, it grows a lot of coraline. Pain in the butt in my old skinny skimmer in my case. I'd go shallow or bare bottom. Maybe pile up some small chunks of rubble for pods to grow in. Someone in the club had a crash after taking offline what I believe was a DSB. http://www.melevsreef.com/fuge_bulb.html
  15. That's a bit of a jog.....oh yeah, it's a new fish store. Always worth the drive...me thinks.
  16. It was about 1/2 way down. http://www.pnwmas.org/forums/showthread.php?t=5552&highlight=logo
  17. Sol- Money is no good here You've got PM.
  18. This guy is still in my sump ready for a new home.
  19. We'll see if I get one. I got an e-mail from buy.com that mine was shipped on the 15th, but when going in to track the order at their site, or Fed Ex, it's not found. Only time will tell.
  20. I hit the send e-mail reply through the site, but don't know where that sends to if you're not setup. Anyhow, resent in PM.
  21. Sent you an e-mail Steve. Wanting a dual system. Trying to figure out what else is needed/compatability with reflectors, bulbs. Wish I kept my mouth shut Joel DOH!
