    Another ID try

Yours looks very similar to mine! I guess it'll be the green-polyped danae. *g* Very nice coral, imo.

Possibly! I always thought they had a more orange base (or at least the little frag of sunset I have does).

    Another ID try

Asked about this one a couple of months ago, but it was much smaller then, and the pic came out really blurry. This one is a little better, so I'm seeing if someone can tell me what kind of monti this is. Thanks in advance!
  4. Ah, that's what you mean! The mention of air threw me off, since no air goes through if it's dialed in.
  5. There is no air valve on a Herbie. Are we talking about two different things?
  6. Herbie, if it's feasible with the set-up!
  7. We have one for under a $ from amazon.com, and it works just fine for our needs.
  8. A controller is great for temp issues. Mine is keeping the temp within a half a degree of the set temperature, turning the heater/fan on and off as needed. For a while I thought I'd have to use a chiller, but a cheap fan turned on when needed, really did the trick, even during the summer.
  9. IMO, you should wait until you get back for the calcium reactor. It takes a few days to dial it in, but after that, it's heaven! Good luck with the trip.

    Fragging zoas?

If they are tall, I cut them close to the rock with scissors and glue onto a plug. My favorite way is to stick a piece of flat epoxy next to them and wait for them to grow over it. It's easy to pop off later.
  11. Or throw a bunch of halimeda into the sump!
  12. Well, my daughter *did* have her 18th birthday party right around that time, and now that I think about it, that was also the day I had something trip the GFCI several times (before the party), but I really don't think the kids (or now adults!) would have done something to the tank. Not sure if something tripping the power could have set things off.
  13. Still available! Would also be interested in trading for a purple haze or other nice sps.
  14. No carbon dosing, no new livestock and nothing added. I had a bit of cyanobacteria in that tank, so I wondered if that morphed into a red tide type event. I'm glad to hear there is a chance of the corals coloring back up!
  15. Yes, I can see it just fine. Both in the sig, and the larger version.
  16. And that's exactly what happened! The pump got back today with a new power supply and propeller assembly. It's back in the tank, working perfectly again! Top-notch customer service!
  17. Something happened in my 60G cube (almost like a red tide). Water turned pink, and all sps retreated. Same with the GSP and leather in the tank. I have no idea what triggered this. I did several waterchanges over the next few days, ran carbon and changed it out twice a day, checked all paramenters (they were fine). Now, about a week later, all sps have polyp extension again, but everything is browned out, and my purple haze is no more! :( Any ideas what this could have been? And will the corals eventually get their color back? And does anyone have a little piece of purple haze to trade?

    feeding fish

What type of fish do you have in your tank? Any chance, someone could come in a couple of times and check on things, and feed the fish? IME, things always break down whenever I dare to leave the house for more than a day!
  19. It looks fantastic! If I ever start a new tank, I'll give this a try! At least for the part between the 2 overflows! What I wonder about is the water behind the wall. Does it get moved around at all? And do the overflows work okay with it?
  20. Mine thrived until I got my nitrates down close to 0. Now there is only a tiny stalk of it left.
  21. I use a Profilux aquarium controller, and the temp is set for 79. The controller keeps it within half a degree of the set temperature, either turning on the heater or the fan, as needed. It's also set to turn off the lights if the temp ever goes above 82F for some reason.
