  1. How do you keep your temp from dropping too low? I have my heater on a controller, so even if it gets stuck, it can't nuke anything (unless the controller goes, too!), but without a heater the temps would go down too far at night. We keep our house at 64F overnight, and then 69F during the day. Josh, how did your tank fare last night?

    Monti ID's please

I'll leave those to the more experienced monti people! Did you get any info on them from the previous owner/store?

Oh yeah, that's excellent! I got one in trade about 6 months ago, and it's growing very nicely. Great looking coral!

Is the first one a Tyree Appleberry? Light green base with blue polyps? Really hard to tell from the pics, but it may just be my eyesight!
  5. Maybe your heater got stuck on "on". It happened here with two heaters over the years. And I was wondering why my fan was always on, trying to cool things down, even at night when it was colder in the house.
  6. Yeah, I know what you mean. We only have one daughter, starting college next year, but we both had our hours cut this year. At least we still *have* jobs! Happy Christmas to you and your family!
  7. Unfortunately there is no chance of a trip to Salem in the near or far future. No money for travel atm.
  8. About 1x1" (maybe a little larger) for $20 It's from this colony, and you can see the round plug on the left side, half encrusted. By now, it's fully encrusted and ready to go to a new home.
  9. Yeah, a move to a new tank usually gets another little cycle going, with crud getting stirred up and the balance being thrown off for a while. Still looks good and I like the two islands.
  10. I found the instructions on an RC thread, and I found it fairly easy to build, even with out limited tool selection. Got all the stuff at home depot and spend about $10-15 on the parts. I already had an MJ pump around, so if you have to buy one, that would add to the cost. I'll try to find the thread... Found it, but unfortunately the creator has moved on, and the pics are no longer available. But it's a huge thread, and maybe someone else has posted pics to make up for the missing ones! http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1288082 Also, I made another one for my smaller tank (about 75G inc. sump) and for that I just used a little reactor like a phosphate one, without a recirc pump, filled in a little sulfur and media for the bacteria to colonize, followed the instructions for getting it started, and it works fine! No building needed!
  11. For me, frequent water changes never got the nitrates to stay down. I finally succumbed and built a sulphur nitrate reactor, and now it's easy.
  12. Hm, at that age and with the lighting you have, sps should do fine. Did you acclimate them? The nitrates need to come down, though. I was never successful with sps until I got my nitrates below 5ppm.
  13. What type of lighting do you have? The 25 Nitrates is probably part of the reason your sps are dying.
  14. How old is the tank? Was everything doing fine before, or is the tank fairly "young"?
  15. Same here. The LR was the spendiest, and next in line is a powder brown tang for $35.
  16. Ah! Everything looks so nice and fresh and clean! Thanks for sharing! Makes me want to get a new tank!
  17. I tried a cheapo from HongKong once, and it was very inaccurate and didn't last long.
  18. Ah, no! I hope you can figure out what this is and save them! How about some pics?
  19. I have a superman digi (though to me it looks more like an orange one, with a light blue base).
  20. Will keep that in mind, if we ever get to Seattle! Thanks for the rec!
  21. No worries! Our daughter and her guests were well supplied and had a great time! And then we had the "family party" on Saturday, with dinner at "Taste of India", her favorite restaurant. Yeah, 18 is a major milestone!
  22. I got some, too, if you are still coming to Eugene in the near future.
  23. Have heard from Roger and pump is going out for a little trip to Texas today!
  24. Thanks! I hope I can get it fixed for not too much money, as I got it used and have no receipt. The motor block costs $122!
