The Difference a Skimmer and CO2 Scrubber Make!
Jeff.Tichenor replied to shaywood's topic in General Discussion
Oh neat - that sensor goes down to 0ppm! I read it has an analog output.. I wonder if I can integrate it with one of the analog inputs on the Hydros... hmm... I sense* a new project in my future -

That surprises me due to the ph swing when the co2 scrubber was offline. You might want to recalibrate it as a quick check for accuracy. Take it outside when calibrating like these instructions: -
The Difference a Skimmer and CO2 Scrubber Make!

Normal co2 levels for outside air is 300-400ppm. For some reason, cheap consumer-grade co2 monitors don't go below 400ppm. -

I have a CO2 monitor in the room and it's pretty surprising how much co2 levels go up when I'm home. It will go from 400ppm to 700ppm throughout the day. I use Kalk as much as possible and don't use a calcium reactor. I still see a ph raise when I'm not home. Checkout this Hydros graph where I was out of the house from 2/25 to 3/1 -

Pink Cadillac GrowOut Competition!

Decided to mount it. I think it's happier now that the turbo snails aren't able to knock it over every.single.night -
Thanks. I just ordered one.
-
Not at all. Once the ATO has replenished the water that was used to fill the manifold and uv sterilizer the ATO is as stable as it always has been. Be sure to put a valve on the line going to the uv to create some back-pressure to feed the other devices on the manifold.
-
I have a dc pump feeding a manifold mounted to the top of the cabinet. The uv is at the end of the manifold with the outlet dumping right next to the return section (behind the algae scrubber).
-
You don't have to run it from the return section. If space permits, run the pump near the skimmer and the uv output can go near or in the return section.

Huge thanks to @titus'reef , @J-Dog, and @CuttleFishandCoral for helping me get this tank restocked after my crash this summer.

Are big tanks much easier than Nanos?
Jeff.Tichenor replied to itotiani's topic in General Discussion
Bigger tanks are more stable because their parameters take more coral and time to change. However, more coral = Bigger risk to changing parameters and more work for water changes. You can automate a lot of it if you are willing to spend that much. -
Free ICP Test follow-up, given away at Holiday Party
Jeff.Tichenor replied to obrien.david.j's topic in General Discussion
I didn't get one of those sample (13 element) kits - but this is a pic of the full Mass Spec test I just got back today. Mailed out on 1/5. They received it in Denver yesterday and posted my results today: ...Looks like I need to up my dosage of Tropic Marin K+ and dose more Iodine than what comes in the Tropic Marin A- as well as cut back on my Ca and Mg dosing (my RedSea kits read Ca as 470 and Mg as 1440). -
Hello from Beaverton! Brand new to this

Welcome! I love FOWLER tanks! It's great to be able to keep a great number of fish that are unsuitable for coral tanks. -

*heads up* Parkrose Hardware has a section for scrap metal/plastic/rubber (in the West Linn location - I'm guessing the other location has this as well). I just picked up a piece of 1/2" black expanded PVC foam board aprox 12"x48" for ~$16. This is the second time I've picked up 1/2" PVC foam board from Parkrose. If you've ever shopped for 1/2" PVC foam board you know it's hard to find and very expensive. The salesperson doesn't know where they get it from or when they will get more (their scrap is just randomly sent to the store). This stuff is ideal for building things in/around the sump as it doesn't warp/rot or absorb water. It can easily be glued (pvc cement) and screwed (without pilot holes). It's what Adaptive Reef uses for their controller boards.

The Hydros doser needs the Hydros controller. Just FYI
