  15. i know.. it's like "ATM machine" since ATM means automatic teller machine you are saying I have to go to the automatic teller machine machine. LOL I hope it doesn't come off as snarky or the grammar police, i think that some people just don't know. I think the reversal is just a result of being trying to explain why their clown isn't in an anenome. Most people don't know or remember the word symbiot so they use the word host instead. if you want on a forum and said "why won't my clownfish become a symbiot? most people would say huh? Plus it is the fishes decision and host can be used as a verb.. But the anenome is larger and therefore the proper term is host. If it's tough to remember think of the anenome as a house, the fish is a guest and therefore the anenome is acting as a host. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  16. ok, I. have to say it. It really doesn't matter because, well, because it doesn't, but it is a pet peeve of mine. The anenome is the host, not the other way around. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  17. I was just at cuttle fish talking about this. I did some further reading and I have some experience in natural resource regulation for what it's worth. So it is shut down for now, but, the good is that the shut down is really based on fish and wildlife (well, the Hawaii version of fish and wildlife) research. The have done numerous surveys of the reefs where commercial collection takes place and they have shown that numbers of target fish are not declining. In fact the opposite is happening in several cases. The bummer is that in modern America, people don't value facts that the scientific method generates. It is all about beliefs, and if something doesn't sit right with someone's beliefs then it gets cast aside.. call it fake news, call it propaganda, whatever. Don't believe this is the case.. ok, how about Portland citizens deciding not to flourinate their water because it was "dangerous" and flouride is a "chemical waste product"? How about people not vaccinating their children because vaccines cause autism even though there has NEVER been a peer reviewed study that proved this was the case? So this same mentality is manifesting itself here. "Snorkle Bob says the waves were once full of yellow tangs.. they take between 2 and 10 million of them a year!!" People say..oh my God! But then it's estimated that there are 30 million fish harvested globally for aquarium trade and Hawaii represents 2% of that trade. The point is that when something becomes political, all bets are off. Sound natural resource management and harvests come from scientific data. My hope is that cooler heads will prevail and that commercial collection will resume. This will take awhile though folks. They will have to complete a NEPA analysis to make a significance call. These analysis are VERY lengthy, especially when the topic is political. So I will have to put my achilies tang lust on hold for now. :( Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  18. bleach will speed up the reduction of organics but I would be really surprised if there is anything left on rock sitting that long. let us know if you test and find ammonia.. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  19. that bubble tip he is in was HUGE, it recently split off a big chunk. Your nem should be ok if you keep your ammonia and PH in check. that anemone was on walk about for like 3 weeks. it was here, then over there, then under this, then over there. he finally decided he wanted to be in the SAME exact cave as my first anenome. lol Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  20. It took 6 months but my clown fish finally realized that anemones are natural hosts for clown fish. I was so excited to see this as I have been pretty much telling him everyday and he finally listened. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  21. i had a roommate in san diego who was a seal. The guy was a legit freak. He would just take off for a week here or two weeks there. i would interrogate him where he was and he would just say "operations". At home though he was suuuper chill. My most memorable interaction with him "please don't snap my neck but I ate all your ice cream" his reply, completely dead pan " you watch to much tv" Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. word. i never understood why they didn't close off those overflows. nice big tank with a view of encrusted plumbing... Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  23. 16 minute mile? yikes, scratch the navy seals of your list. lol. that is a great story though. as I am finding out, getting old kind of sucks. Kudos for getting out and getting things done. i have been putting of starting a formal exercise program for awhile now :( maybe this will finally get me off the couch Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  24. i did a little drilling, painted the back, built the skimmer and overflow box and had to polish the @#$& out of the glass to get rid of the remnants of where the overflows were connected. It's a sweet tank, if my ego was smaller it would be running in my living room right now. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
