  1. Sadly after many years my goby finally passed, leaving his counterpart peppermint shrimp alone and blind. I’d like to find a home for him with a goby that needs a shrimp. Free to a good home if you can plead your case. If not, open to offers or trades. I’m in Salem.
  2. Not positive if parasite or bacteria. By descriptions, maybe bacteria. I got a bottle of Imagitarium bacterial infection remedy. Started dozing earlier today. Unfortunately, it totally messed up the protein skimmer. Overflowed with thick foam like dish soap after 2 minutes. Luckily I heard it and shut it off with only a few drips on the floor. Unplugged the UV for the cycle too. Anyone else tried this stuff in a reef?
  3. Started with 4 Bartletts Anthias that I got in December. A couple months ago one of the females started to show blemishes on her side fins that resembled white or clear spots or blotches instead of its healthy, uniform clear look. I'm unable to get close pictures of any sick fish spots unfortunately. She died after a week or 2 of first symptoms. So down to 3 anthias then. About a month ago the last female showed the same fin spots, then her tail got picked away over a couple days and she didn't survive. Currently I have 2 males. A couple days the less dominant male started showing the same ugly side fin blemishes, and even the tail isn't looking as good as yesterday. I live in Salem. It is a challenge to net fish as I need to remove main reef rocks to do so. I only have one tank and no quarantine. Ideas? Thanks
  4. I’m having some issues with controlling the softie versus hard coral balance in my tank, likely due to small size of tank and large desire for coral. That being said, I’m considering getting rid of a couple of my original reef rocks with expensive colonies of mushrooms or polyps. It’s such a big change and I don’t want to change too much, but it’s increasing in necessity. I’m not sure if I can cut the rocks in half or need to do it whole. I’d paid $100 for the rock originally with mushrooms and polyps and the weight of the massive rock alone (dinner plate diameter and 6 to 8 inch height). I’ve added multiple additional colonies since then to the same rock. Not even sure how to begin pricing or fragging it. It is filled with blue/green/turquoise mushrooms that have purple hints on edges. Maybe 20 full mushrooms, but hard to count. Maybe 80 orange spotted polyps too, a dozen green/striped palys (not grandis). I also have a small rock that is half rastas and half mind blowing palys. I want to keep rastas but am willing to part with palys for cheap (or nothing if someone cuts the rock and frags it for me). I’ll post a pic to follow, but will be from older iPhone
  5. I keep near 2 degree fluctuation. 78.2 is high end. If it hits 78.3 and the air conditioner goes on. It’s a portable AC that I can aim at the tank as necessary. As long as I have power, I can keep fairly constant temp. To note, I have a higher end heater that is rated nearly double my tank capacity. I monitor temp extensively. Only way to close the remaining 2 degree flux is with an expensive chiller and central heating/AC in my rental house, which isn’t going to happen.
  6. I got a leopard wrasse a few months ago. It lived 7 weeks. Not sure what the culprit was. After seeing other similar issues, I wonder if they just are hard to keep in tanks long term. To note, I have a watchman goby pistol shrimp combo. I wonder if they dug up a sleeping wrasse and that’s what killed him. He was just dead laying on his side one morning when I’d gone to check on him. Probably took 3 hours before the cleaner shrimp was brave enough to pick at it. Amazing fish. I was quite sad when it died. Would i assume your wrasse burrowed each night like mine did?
  7. Stomadopods are awesome. I’ve had probably 4 over my reefing career. Giant peacock one from upscales about 12 years ago was the coolest. I was legitimately worried he would one day break the glass. On occasion, a water droplet would drip down the front of the tank and the shrimp would attempt to attack it. I’ve only every gotten one mantis hitchhiking however and it was tiny.
  8. If Dennis Rodman designed the lakers mascot.....
  9. I’m leaving Salem about 12:45 if anyone is wanting to grab a ride. I’m looking forward to corals and tacos!
  10. I’m in Salem and headed to cuttlefish and corals gathering on cinco de mayo. I head to lots of the PNWMAS gatherings and think it might be easier to carpool on some. If anyone in the Salem area is wanting to hitch a ride let me know. I’m also down to ride along this trip and drive a group to the next gathering. GO GO CAPTAIN PLANET!
  11. Sliding glass door must have been the catalyst. Too close to side of tank. Over time I’ll bet the impact loosened the sealant.
  12. I’m interested in them, but think it’s unlikely I’ll make the list. Quite the feeding frenzy up in here! Perhaps tacos and $10 Holly frags are my safe zone. Put me as an alternate to these.
  13. I concur on the watchman goby pistil shrimp. Fun to watch. Very much the “GET OFF MY LAWN” personality. They will move frags around it the substrate nearby, so that can be an obstacle. They have buried many of my corals many of times.
  14. Would you recommend your triggerfish as reef safe? Triggerfish have some of the best personality/style, but are also able to disembowel another fish of comparable...... kind of a toss up. Perhaps if you have enough tangs and larger fish it will keep it in check?
  15. I’ve only been a pnwmas member for 6 months and reefing for 2.5 years this stint. I’ve been going to each of the gatherings, but missed a month ago. I’m unfamiliar with the group buy and may 5 event.

So basically, it’s a generous fundraiser and great way to get High end coral frags on a budget?

And in order to participate, I check in on the forum when posted (not sure on post timings) and reply what I want, send $10 via PayPal, attend the gathering next Sunday and get random selected frags of the colonies listed?

Money is tight and I’m from Salem, so I am wanting to verify before making plans. I’d been looking for rainbow acan for a while and saw it posted, but was already full of responses when I saw.

Thanks for your time and generosity with this :)

It’s a giving back to the reefing community with great food , great chance at raffles if nice equipment  , and high end frags that many people couldn’t afford otherwise so yes you are correct !

I am waiting on Jeff to know when the next Group Buy will happen but there are many more

  16. I have a hammer coral (or frammer style) that is too big for my tank. I want to frag half of it away and keep half. Never really fragged corals. Do I basically use thick wire clippers and cut off a branch to glue to a plug? Do they have flesh in the middle or just the outer polyps? If there is interest for the Salem April meeting tomorrow I can potentially cut 5 or 6 heads off to bring in tomorrow. Let me know.
  17. So long term picture, when the colonies grow out and try and go to war with each other, do you just break a branch off? I’m trying to plan distance better on some corals as I’ve has some problems with invasive takeovers. Side note, love your tank. We have fairly similar setups in a lot of areas. I wonder if you got the blue pavonia from me at a meeting? Haha i have an orange acan colony, red and blue war coral, and most of your corals or close to it. Purple green galaxia coral? I have a watchman goby shrimp combo too. Im experimenting with mag frag disks now.
  18. Could you please share a front facing pic? I'd ended up ordering the magnetic frag plug 6 piece for $20 after shipping from AquaCave.com and just got them a few hours ago. I'll install some tonight and post pics. I still will likely be purchasing or building my own additions of a magnetic shelf and maybe bonsai too. It has real potential for expanding precious tank real estate.
  19. Does anyone have access to a 3D printer for making magnetic frag racks/inserts? They get real expensive to purchase a Tunze rack, and I'm not comfortable trusting an unknown brand in my reef aquarium. Has anyone printed their own here?
  20. What a dick! Lol only thing I can really add to this conversation.... I have a leopard wrasse and on 2 occasions have seen my cleaner shrimp lunge aggressively at it. My leopard wrasse is hardcore. Twice however, I've seen it scare away from the shrimps lunging. They are about the same size. I think the wrasse would eat the shrimp if it were smaller and the shrimp knows he would be on the menu if he doesn't do the tough guy routine. Maybe your tang is needing cleaned or possibly the shrimp looked him funny one day?
