A 1" Walt Disney frag is a "colony."
-
Welcome! I am just getting into seahorses. I'll have a tank thread up soon.
-
Ha ha. That frag is a single polyp, right? ???? Edit: actually I already know that Corn-Brad produces real frags. LOL.
-
Should we call you Corn-Brad now?
-
Which one is that?
-
What does the oxygen do? Oxygen will not help algae growth. The flow you get from an air stone is important, however.
-
Where did you get it from? Is it DIY?

Thinking about going fresh water planted....

If you do, you'll probably end up regretting it. And don't forget that nice planted tanks can be a lot of work too. Take a look at the Dino thread and try some of those things. Don't forget that you recently restarted your tank, so you are bound to go through an ugly phase. I had a complete tank crash about 14 months ago, and look at the same tank now. You can come back, and, if you are like me, you'll learn enough from the experience so that the revamped system is better than ever. Good luck! -
You can grow some algae without much light, but in order to grow enough to make a difference with Nitrate and Phosphate in your tank, you will want more light. I would use at least 5 of those strips.
-
Is that your algae scrubber, Matt?
-
If it's just the one in the pic, I don't think you have enough light. http://www.santa-monica.cc/GEM5-high-power-underwater-refugium-algae-scrubber-reactor-and-hydroponic-light-5-real-watts-EACH-LIGHT-10-watts-other-LEDs-20-watts-CFL_p_84.html Here are some submersible LED strips that can be used for this. They are $ but might help if you find your setup underpowered.

I would be very careful about this, and would avoid it unless I had a really serious problem with pests. If you do need to have it done, put a cover over the tank and turn your skimmer and any air stones off. Tell the pest guys to stay away from the area near the tank. Add activated carbon and do a big water change after the application.

My One Spot Foxface is great at keeping all algae at bay, and it has never nipped at any of my softies. I keep him really well fed with Nori to make sure it doesn't start tasting my zooanthids. My Tomini (Bristletooth) tang is also a very effective algae eater. Sorry to hear about your tang.

That's awesome, Matty! I hope they get along.

Holly's Saltwater Haven - Part 2: The Tanks and Equipment
Lexinverts replied to Gil&Fin's topic in Tank Threads
I think Garrett's tank is taller, but I could be wrong. It's all looking very nice. And with that kind of capacity you are going to be able to grow out a lot of frags. I am insanely jealous. -
My wife gets cold if the room temperature is much cooler than 74. My experience with these tanks is that the pumps heat the water a few degrees. I'm also going to run a UV, which will bring the temp up a degree or so too. So, I wouldn't expect to be able to keep the water temp at 74 without making the house 72-ish, which is a non-starter. During the winter she cranks the gas fireplace and that heats up the room worse than in the summer.

Thanks! I am going to start with two pairs of H. erectus and some Banded Pipefish. They've got some sweet ones at TPA right now. I actually have not tried gorgs before, so I am excited for the challenge.

There are lots of new systems popping up in the forum these days! Here's my contribution. It's a Red Sea Max E-170, 43 gallon system that is going to house seahorses, zooanthids, and gorgonians. Thanks Jeff for ordering the tank for me! These are really smart looking tanks. I love the roomy cabinet and how the tanks can be modified to run a below-tank sump. I'm going to be running it at 74F to keep the seahorses happy, so I will be hiding a chiller in the stand. Stay tuned!
