  1. According to the book Marine Invertebrates by Ronald L.Shimek,"Many abnormal and deleterious conditions may also result in polyp extension." Some of the examples provided included; 1.) Polyp extension with no sighs of new growth and tissue recession might indicate a lack of food. 2.) Polyp extension with no sighs of new growth and intact tissues may indicate a lack of calcium. Are there any other times when good polyp extension is a bad sigh? *MARINE INVERTEBRATES 500+ Essential-to-know Aquarium Species.Written by Ronald L.Shimek PH.D. ©2004 T.F.H.Publications,Inc.One T.F.H. 2. My millis prefer insane amounts of light.I placed them up high one day and the colors came right out.
  3. Your Green Slimer story is intriguing.I have noticed when I cut a whole branch off,the mother colony will be quick to heal the area.I won't get new growth from that spot, just the other limbs.I will have to try some trimming and see what happens.
  4. Those palys are going to be harder to name, they are unusual. *Maybe the Clark would be interested in naming his Morph "Clark's Orion's Belt"?* Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk It does resemble a Lunar Eclipse with the Orange ring and dark wants to be starry background. Well that's a bummer,I think I should have run the poll a tad longer.
  5. Alright let's call these zoas Star Lord,Sounds good to me.*Thanks for the suggestion Blue Z Reef!*
  6. Well,I originally really liked the name Patriot.I voted for Star Lord.I know it's Star Lord, but he's still a Marvel guy.And my zoas developed a round neon orange eye the center.Nothing compared to the Clark's morph but it is there. Last day to vote guys and gals. Thanks for the input and suggestions everyone!
  7. I set up a poll for fun,vote herehttp://www.pnwmas.org/topic/35281-teco-zoa-namevote-here/
  8. If you like it,vote for it.Poll runs just 3 days(8/6/15).Here is a picture of the zoas being voted on.Feel free to include your own pictures, especially if you think it may sway the votes!
  9. Alright,I will make poll for everybody to pick out their favorite name.Anyone else have a suggestion for inclusion?
  10. *Congratulations matty!* *Thank you so much for the generous prize,I will take good care of that gem!* As far as names go I really like the name "Patriot" that was mentioned earlier.I am still open for other suggestions if anyone has one or two.
  11. Your zoas look nice! I can't believe how big the red mark became and it looks star shaped.I guess you have naming rights to that morph.Perhaps the stress of the tank crash encouraged the transformation? Thanks to everyone who participated, and Special thanks to Badxgillen! *Thank you cerk1985!* It was close. The growth of your palys is nice, the polyps look fat and healthy. Thanks for sharing the additional information on your setup. I think you guys are tied...
  12. Although it is very hard to see anything in the pictures,I would guess you have cyanobacteria or possibly dinos popping up.I would lean on the cyano side.
  13. *Welcome to PNWMAS, Rod's Food!* I have your page liked on FB and I look forward to trying your products!
  14. With this contest nearing completion, would anyone care to share some final thoughts? Successes, failures, possibly some suggestions for names? Personally,I would like to complement anyone who managed to keep those palys alive. As for the zoas, they seem to like the sand bed, indirect flow and intense lighting.
  15. *Welcome to PNWMAS, Smiles!*The Best advice you will get from anyone is to do your research.Read as much as you can before you start adding in all the fun stuff. Then have patience. We are fortunate to have good local fish stores as mentioned.Visit one or attend a meeting when you get a chance!Best of luck with your new aquarium!
  16. I am very interested, should I send you a PM with my item numbers? Thank you so much for taking the time to arrange this.Pacific East Aquaculture has some beautiful varieties and I have been window shopping there for months.
  17. Yes it has been weeks and my nitrates are barely detectable. This is what makes me think the drop a day is a effective dose, for my particular system.I will have to wait it out a month or two to be sure. I had a bad experience with peroxide so I prefer not to use it. I have always been good at over feeding the corals. With my initial dosing the nitrates dropped much faster than I expected.I should have tested the water every day. My concern exactly,I don't want my nutrients too low.My half dose was only .2 ml for my system. So I am fairly certain the tiny dose is doing something.
  18. After dosing vodka for less than a week the nitrates in my 60 gallon mixed reef dropped to zero.In a effort to bring the nitrates back up I have reduced vodka dosing to 1 drop per day.Is this tiny amount capable of making a notable difference? My primary reason for dosing is to control nuisance algae.
  19. So sorry for your lost.I would be happy to share a frag or two with you when things recover.Years ago when I treated a tank with flatwormRX I observed the brittle stars crawling out of the rock work.Similar to how they react when I accidentally dip them. For that reason I would not readily recommend any of it's ingredients for a off label use.Again, thank you for sharing your experience! Regarding the Triton test, may I ask what steps were used to reduce the tin in your aquarium?
  20. Zoas :16 heads Palys:2 heads Palys top down,middle top of picture.I know,it's bad.
