  1. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.-Edmund Burke

  2. I have to bump this for our friend Albert. Please check out the Go Fund Me link above for the latest updates.Thank you!
  3. I hope you have a good holiday season and a salty New year!
  4. Thank you for sharing this LC Scott.Albert will be in my thoughts and prayers. Here is a nice write up about him for those who are not familiar his work. http://www.reef2reef.com/threads/a-giant-in-the-hobby-needs-our-help.276931/#post-3348754
  5. I would be interested in a Sunny D frag. This is really generous of you Kim.
  6. It looks good.Like the next best thing a open top.
  7. I also have a sunset millepora and bright orange mushrooms ready to go!
  8. I crave a good trade.I have a Ponape Birds nest,TECO stylo,Nuclear winter palys and these Alelis Blue zoanthids available.
  9. I created this thread to consolidate my xanthidae crab notes and photographs. My husband found this crab when dipping his new coral acquisitions one night. At the time it was smaller than the end of a pencil eraser.I took it for a Acro crab and acclimated it to my main display.Where he promptly moved out of the acropora and disappeared.Weeks passed by and I didn't think he had made it.Then I found one of his molts.Apparently he was well and growing at a rapid rate! Once in a while I would spot another glimpse of him.Usually all that I could see was just a tiny claw at work. Over a period of a year I would take pictures whenever I got the chance. This was rather difficult because he would completely disappear whenever he noticed me.Eventually I was able to capture the photo below. In doing so I was finally able to identify him as a smooth spooners xanthide crab. http://www.wildsingapore.com/wildfacts/crustacea/crab/xanthidae/laevimanus.htm The very best picture I have available at this time.In this photo his head is upright and the claws(not visible) are tucked away.Notice the little "Last Airbender" arrow at the top of his head. Also, there is a standard plastic frag plug to the right of him for size reference. Generally speaking the xanthid crabs are considered problematic.* They are not considered reef safe.Fortunately ,I have not noticed any remarkable damage.I do see him perch on corals. He will pick at the tiny polyps on SPS such as pocillapora and Montipora. However, I do not not believe that he is actually eating the coral.Rather,he seems to be foraging in a random fashion as the polyps retract. As for the safety of the inverts I may never know.I don't count my hermits, stomatella snails or brittle stars. The larger snails including the nassarius are accounted for. He does have a good appetite for algae. So reliably that if I place a hairy frag next to one of his areas,it will be polished clean overnight. This leads me to believe that this variety is primarily nocturnal.Always secretive. Here all some of the numerous photos I took. Now most of these don't look that great. That said, they will illustrate just how elusive these critters are.So I have included them for educational purposes. This guy is extremely agile and moves in a quick calculated manner. He has been seen clinging upside down in tiny crevices and at awkward angles.Very rarely do I see the full caprice.Often all that is visible is a rock or coral shifting as he wedges his way around. I am pleased to have the opportunity to view this invertebrate in person.I hope for now I have shed some light on these notorious creatures. If you have any thought or experiences regarding these animals, please feel free to share them here. War Coral Issues

That's too bad.Have you tired dipping the coral to check for parasites? Also,Do you have any animals that could be harassing it?
  11. I had a wonderful time as well.Thank you for being so attentive Roybn.Your customer service skills are awesome! Have a blast at the Grand Opening. *Thanks to Jeff for being so kind.No matter what the time or occasion.* Special thanks to our board members for all that you do! Kim and Holly in particular for reaching out during these events. You two always help me feel welcome.
  12. The Fish These two out shine all of the corals.Their black and white coloration is very solid and they literally glow. Both are local captive bred, Black Ocellarius "Colby" clowns. I hope and check for eggs frequently. The pair of clowns host the Frog spawn,Pectina and chalice in that order. Apparently clowns will eat the sweeper tentacles off of all these varieties.I witnessed the female trimming one day.Reportedly you can even trim them yourself! http://www.reef2reef.com/threads/how-big-is-your-pectinia-the-once-popular-space-invader-pectinia.256706/ I suppose this is how I have managed to keep the Pectina next to all the other corals. Most notably a chalice, lobos and SPS.
  13. Thank you! Those are OG Alien Eye chalices I grew from frags. Thank you, kindly.I think it is the way nature intended.Everyone has a place in my heart.Even those pesky purple stars polyps I had forsaken.I got to hand it to them for always coming back.
  14. How embarrassing! Where did you see the sand ? I forgot to mention that I use a large (maybe size 20?) grit in my display. The other two tanks have a pea sized crushed coral. It creates more bio diversity,I believe. Thank you! It is my pleasure. Thanks! I'm just the enabler,no intervention required. Thank you! I ultimately like to push the limits with my nanos.I want to inspire others to do the same. Thank you, kindly. I do regular pruning on the more vigorous SPS.My clowns do some trimming as well which I will discuss a bit later.Between the corals I use small rocks and zoas as spacers.I have found that Palys in particular can take the occasional sting. Most importantly I watch things constantly as they grow.If two varieties look too incapatble I will move them right away.
  15. Greetings all! Here is the new version of my tank thread that I created for PNWMAS.Hope you enjoy and have a wonderful day!-Keli The main display is a 20 gallon TRUVIEW acrylic. This has been plumbed with two additional 20 gallon aquariums. The estimated actual water volume for the entire system is 50 gallons. QUICK PARTS LIST: 1 Large return pump 1 small pump ,1 Maxi-Jet 1200 1 ODYSSEA skimmer 2 Black box LED units 1 Maxspect Lighting fixture 1 TUNZE ATO. APEX NOT INCLUDED! A black box LED unit is used for lighting. This tank could have been made specifically just for these types of lights.I get really good coverage throughout the coral scape. The Maxi -Jet 1200 is located in the far right corner. 7/2012 7/2014 9/2014 4/2015 10/2015 12/2015 The sump uses a Ocean Revive LED unit.It houses the return, skimmer and a algae scrubber of sorts.I harvest at least 3 different types of algae including hair, chaetomorpha and purple ochtodes. On the secondary display I recently added a Maxspect lighting fixture.A small pump is running during the day for circulation.Notice the lovely freshwater background. Everyday I dose with Bulk Reef Supply ,Soda Ash 3 part .All four Red Sea coral colors are used on a regular basis.I use vodka, activated carbon and the product Purigen.
  16. Voted.Do we have a winner yet?
  17. I would like to thank Rudy for putting this event into play.Thank you! I appreciate all the time and effort that our members have dedicated to this event.Thank you all kindly! I created a thread on Reef2Reef to help promote the expo.If you happen to go that way, feel free to bump the post. http://reef2reef.com/threads/1st-annual-oregon-reef-expo.257906/ Washington Area Forum- http://reef2reef.com/threads/annual-oregon-reef-expo.257907/
  18. I love those Nuclear Winters, those are still my favorite! So I will enter a picture of my 3rd favorite zoas.White Velvet, as macro as I have ever managed to get.
  19. I have a single fella and a perfect pair. All of these fish prefer the Frog spawn corals. They all will occasionally hang out with the Hammers. The pair will also shack up with my large Pectina which is surprisingly tolerant.Years ago I had a pair that would nest on top of my open brain coral. They had to be relocated as this behavior was causing extreme stress. Just a shot for pretty.
  20. Wow.The new growth is remarkable! I'm a little jealous.Absolutely no polyp extension or new growth on my side of the fence.I have moved the frag as a last resort. It really seems more stable now.
  21. It does seem that your nitrate is coming from the build up in the tray.I would recommend adding more live rock to the system. As for the ID ,I think you just have red coraline algae.
