  1. Nice, I love child-reef-labor and proudly take advantage every day There is an incredible amount of sludge on the middle blade at the top just above the neck. Hopefully that is not affecting skimming. Well not according to reef builders anyways, check this out.. Do protein skimmer neck cleaners really work?
  2. Nice! Seeing all your DIY skills in this forum, figured you would have one in no time Ya, I had the same reservations about the neck cleaner. SPS gurus such as reefnjunkie feel they make a big difference. That was enough of a reason for me to give it a shot... When the neck gets scraped 3x daily not much builds up in between cleanings. That little bit appears to immediately skim back out as it is returned to the reaction chamber. So I don't believe it is putting any skimmate back into the tank for more than a few minutes. Just my uneducated take on it...
  3. Looking good Matt, love your setup. Sounds amazingly efficient. Salt spray an issue with the cover or do you just crank up the LEDs a bit?
  4. Anyone build the 1 dollar version? The diy is doing good here is a current shot I ended up using 3 squeegees. The work horse is the one inside the neck. It keeps the skimmer efficient. The other two are on the outside of the neck and the collection cup. They keep the view into the cup clear more or less but are not perfect. You can clearly see the line though! (Squeegee too small )
  5. Organic vs inorganic phosphate is another one of interest, if that is possible to ascertain. Randy Holmes Farley over on R2R thought it might be possible. Early word is, there is not nearly as much organic phosphate coming in on people's tests as what we have been told (2% inorganic, 98% organic). Information is so good, people will learn and adjust. Yes I can see people totally over thinking too! There is danger I suppose... This video Ehsan talks allot about overthinking it and what elements even if they test out of range to leave alone..
  6. I am concerned about aluminum from all my phosphate battles. Kit is not here yet...
  7. Hahah, I blame Jody/TECO, those 9.99 nice frags, too good!
  8. Nice, congrats on the house! GLWS BUMP
  9. Bought another 4 of those well priced 9.99 frags. Still plenty on the site. Love this group buy thank you Jose and TECO!
  10. Proven SPS guru posts how to monitor KH. Yeah, that has my attention for sure, thanks for reposting this is such cool tip.
  11. Hey All, I have a set of Charles/WannaReef's APEX to Jebao Cables. There are some ways to create some pretty amazing profiles and virtual outlets to control the pumps. However, I completely missed the APEX wizard option and wanted to pass it along. In fusion, you can use the fancy chart / gui to configure at what time of day, what percent the pump should run it. Here are the rough steps: 1) go into fusion 2) Go the varspd port corresponding to your powerhead 3) Click the wand icon to open up the pump wizard. You can do stuff like this: Hope this helps someone out there... Honestly, the programs are more powerful and allot more complex. However this might meet someone's needs, passing along...
  12. Sweet! What a great way for someone to get a nice set of coral. GLWS!
  13. You have a healthy nano tank, that coral looks good, cool!
  14. Harbor freight has a hole saw set with many sizes that will drill up to 3/4" thick material for cheap. To go and buy the hole saws individually can cost a fortune. These are cheap but absolutely do the job. As far as hole size, there are tons of good guides out there but if they are no uni seals then the advice is pretty generic. Find a hole saw that is just big enough to let the bulk head pass through the hole. You can hold the hole saw up to the bulk head to find the right size, it should be slightly big enough to let the bulk head into it. If it is a uniseal, then there are very specific and google-able size holes you need to drill. If you have any scrap acyrlic to practice on that will build confidence too. It is tough to learn the first time on a prize tank. Well good luck!
  15. What a beast of a pump LOL. Well there are allot of skimmers out there that could use the 6000, hopefully you can unload some of the fruits of your design on others. I have enjoyed getting to know you a little through the posts and look forward to your next version.
  16. Turns out local pet works in Longview stocks em, sweet!
  17. I wise person once told me... If you fill it with salt water, it will fill with frags. and Frags will consume all available space, no matter how big the space. So true.. This is a serious addiction we all share DOH!
  18. It is intriguing that 80-80% of US tanks supposedly are coming back with high levels of lithium. There are so many little bits of data now, more new information to take in and learn from. Also the whole Barium and Montipora Digitata using it, very interesting.
  19. Did the frag tank too, lots of good storage area underneath that is no longer an eye sore...
  20. Great talk, the guys is interesting to listen to.
  21. I am thinking V2 will be made by someone more mechanically inclined, perhaps in CAD, perhaps 3d printed. Who could do such a thing I wonder? Someone local, someone I know... heheheh
  22. That's a nice piece congrats!
  23. It is geared down down to 10 RPM. Seems to do a good job but time will tell! Too much fun not to try
