  1. Looks purdy, the fuzzballs are going nuts, that is awesome. What are these bright ones in the middle of the pic?
  2. I wanted to update on possible sources of tin found in my tank so far - Rusty old razor blade slid behind powerhead magnet - Shorted out power head (for unknown amount of time) On the powerhead... Doing water changes, my grounding probe was out of the water. I received a good shock when bridging (touching water) in another tank with a grounding probe (Everything last item is on GFI now, but that is a different story...) After much troubleshooting I tracked it down to a sump stirring powerhead. The volt meter showed 3 amps, 100 volts. Since the powerhead was shorted out, I have to assume it is possible that something metal was exposed. It is not clear how long it was like this On the razor blade... looked up the exact composition of the razor blades I am using. Looks like mostly iron. This most likely was not the cause. I am curious though, the bad on top of the blade that is for holding onto, it appears to be a different material. Chemical Composition The following table shows the chemical composition of S2 tool steels. 3. Fun! Looks like a job for the 'tanked' crew (laugh)
  4. I also have had good luck with the Eheim single chamber with new life spectrum pellets. Good luck in your hunt!
  5. Oh yeah, that was you! Curious how that turned out. If you try it out please share. I am most curious how strong the shaft is holding the powerhead, if it is WP-60 capable...
  6. Now you can... Pretty cool! http://www.fish-street.com/coral_box...otation_system http://www.fish-street.com/coral_box_auto_motion_rotation_system Not sure if it could handle WP-60s in wave mode on a 16" shaft, but intrigued to try em!
  7. So I am sure a test backup and restore are part of the beta given the old VBulletin history, just sayin... (rock2)(rock2)
  8. Wow, Nano-Reef is smoking fast. I signed up for an account to check it out. I wonder which plan they are on. Noticed a 'Like' button, cool. A hosted solution makes ALLOT of sense for our smaller community of volunteers.
  9. Just went through the features presentation here: http://www.invisionpower.com/apps/board/ Looks pretty good. Looking forward to trying it out.
  10. Awesome, exciting stuff! It is great you are able to bring up a site in parallel for testing based on a backup. Looking forward to checking it out, sign me up for the beta please
  11. That is a totally legitimate item for feedback, glad my inbox is not full yet! A tutorial thread is a good idea too, I bet the community would contribute. I would sign up for 'How to edit signature' topic if we had a place for those. Good stuff!!
  12. Removed post since we are going to beta new forum software.
  13. Things turned out surprisingly well, no coral losses that i can find. This elegance was buried under 2" of sand flipped face down. By yesterday afternoon it looked like this, amazing!
  14. Ah, that makes sense, same genus different species. Thanks again.
  15. Thanks guys. I like it, it is hardy enough to survive all my tank dabbling. Googling green stylos did show some very similar hits. I would have never guessed it though, my other stylos grow tightly grouped together and more uniform in shape. Go figure!
  16. Here is another angle of the same frag. So lumpy and bumpy...
  17. The green SPS in this shot: I bought this as an 'Aussie' acro a long time back, no other information. Kind of reminds me of a digitata. However, you can see the blue digitata right next to it has different growth patterns. I like it's unique structure and the polyps are kind of cool too. Thanks
  18. Thanks Matt for the ideas on replacements. I suspect the old phosphate laden sand is not helping my algae situation. Guess this is a good excuse to start yarding it out!
  19. Close call! Great idea on sand replacement, I would love to do the same. Been regretting re-using this fine sand since the beginning of this tank. Can you share your recommendation on what aragonite to replace with / where to get? Thanks!!
  20. Are you looking for the sediment filter, the 5 micron, 0.5, or all three? Do you need new DI and membrane also? Here are some that i have ordered off of amazon for the BRS 5 stage RO/DI if it can help: Sediment Filter 4 pack http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008P9GJSA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 5 Micron Carbon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0031O95KS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 0.5 Micron Carbon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UQPONM/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 RO http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D43H6HA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 DI Color changing from BRS It's amazing what replacement media adds up to. Good luck on your hunt!
  21. So true, I have lost too many corals to sand piles. Time to think seriously about siphoning most of it out. I could leave some in the canyon for the wrasses.
  22. Yes, good point, talk about a major sand stirring event..
  23. I had a self induced aragonite sand winter wonderland this morning. Last night, I swapped the WP-60s out of the frag tank and into the display. Not being careful when removing and replacing, one of the mounts was loose. As a result, a powerhead came loose from the mount and fell into the sandbed overnight. It blew sand directly from the bottom of the tank into the water column with the full force of a WP-60. Everything, I mean everything was covered in white aragonite snow. A huge elegance was flipped and buried under inches of sand. I could not even find it at first. After a moment of panic, I settled into the task at hand of digging everything out and blowing things off with the turkey baster. Lesson Learned - If you mess with powerheads before leaving your tank overnight or before work, double check they are secured well! Things are looking good now. Here you can see the aftermath. The clowns working on clearing the toadstool, and an upset toxic hammer. Notice the fine sand particles in the water column too.
  24. Doing some changes to the powerheads last night, I found a rusty razor blade in the tank. It had fallen in and attached to a powerhead magnet and gone undetected. If razors have tin in them, then very likely a possible cause of the elevated tin.
  25. Rainbow inferno is so beautiful it makes me blurt out obscenities when I see the picture! Sorry for the loss, glad you still have some.
