  1. This stuff here.. flexible, make a cover or make some "teeth" by cutting the right sized strip and attach it to your overflow however you seem fit. few small dabs of superglue would work in a pinch. This is something you can do at Home Depot until you can find a more permanent solution. Edit: I see now from the 1st pic. If you were to cut a small strip and fold it into a "U" and stick it in your box it could serve as a cover and teeth keeping the little guy in the tank where he's safe
  2. Gutter guard has smaller holes he won't be able to fit through. Hard to tell from the pics but are you using the egg crate for a overflow cover or weir teeth? Edit: I can see now that you are using the egg crate as a tank cover.
  3. Must be one heck of a skimmer! What kind is it? What kind of equipment in general for that matter? The corals shown in the pics are not exactly very pricey either. Seems like a lot to spend if all you're after is the skimmer, fish and a couple of common corals. Although the pink one is worth a little more imo. Selling used equipment is sometimes easier said than done. Don't count your chickens before they hatch Certain pumps, lights, skimmers have an excellent resale value, others you might have trouble giving away.
  4. Just my 2 cents.... Several ways of looking at this, is it a good deal? maybe, but why inherit someone else's potential problems as you don't know what the hell could crawl out of that rock one night. Also used tanks? never again! Not for me anyways, coming home to a split seam is no fun. For this kind of money you have more options you might not be aware of. For that kind of money if it was me i'd contact a few of our local custom tank builders again and go custom. With having a custom tank built it's built to your specs, footprint, overflow design etc.. the excitement of delivery day and the fact you can come home peak your head around the corner and water still be in the tank is not too bad either. Slow and steady wins the race on this one and i'm a true believer you'll enjoy the hobby much more taking your time in choosing the right equipment even if it takes a little longer. Many of us here build our systems piece by piece. Just some food for thought i guess
  5. Sounds like you could use another herbivore, maybe try one of the smaller tangs if your bioload permits and add a few turbo snails and some trochus snails if you haven't already.
  6. Danger! Will Robinson! Danger! Yeah everything i've read on them (or tried to anyway) there will be blood unless you have a really really large system. It's a shame to because i would have a whole hoard of them if i could. What other fish are in the system with the black sail fin now?
  7. What's your going rate to take a look at it? It's always had a potentiometer problem on the blue side, either 100% or about 5-10% and nothing in between. Maybe it got worse. Or maybe it's something much more serious as i have been noticing it getting dimmer and dimmer over the course of a couple weeks until only the 3 blue moonlights will now come on.
  8. What other equipment would you trade it for? My older Reefstar all the blues went out except for the moonlights now half my 4 x 2 frag tray is pretty dark and i have no idea how to fix it so i've been on the lookout for possible trades.
  9. Cool thread idea! I don't know what they are called but Rolekii gave me a Gorilla nipple colony that were grown on a little square that looks like a bunch of tiny rubble stuck together, a tiny slice here and there to separate the polyps and with little to no pressure at all with bone cutters or even your fingers the desired piece snaps right off. The easiest zoa fragging ever!
  10. Is this a standard 29g? 30.25 x 12.50 x 18.50 If so i may be able to help you out. I have a 29g tank and stand, the stand has a hollow back so a 10g will slide right in there. You might have to add to the bottom in the case the 10g might stick out a little but not sure haven't measured for that. Single door front. http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/38211-29g-with-stand/
  11. Take it outside a kill it with a .45 Don't know the i.d but i hate crabs
  12. Thanks for the input guys! I just really wanted to know what kind of coral i sent to the coral gods being this is the only rock/coral i've adding to my tank without vicious dipping in almost 3 years. I had nowhere near enough extra water in my sump to dip a whole rock and then rinse it the 300-400 times needed to get all the Bayer out being i house a cleaner shrimp. Worst yet is i had no salt on hand at the moment the replenish the sump volume loss and had to bring my own water to pick up the frag. So this is where the bone cutters come in (That i forgot at home) i was only able to pull enough water from my sump to comfortably cover the frag/colony not the rock and keep the system stable. When i got home i could have just cut the coral off i was after, dipped it and been done with it but i just hate the idea of killing a bunch of coral so like and idiot i decided to add the whole thing to my tank and to be honest i didn't really have much time to think about it or try and line up another person to take it but i fully understood the risk. A tank rebuild was imminent anyways. Any word on that algae? That was one of the reasons i pulled the rock. I have way too many algae problems right now to add more. Green turf algae seems to be my main problem right now.
  13. I wish it was, i used to have a small frag of that and it just exploded into a mini colony very quickly but i lost it in one of my tank crashes. When i was at the member's house to pick up the coral, the coral i was there for was attached to the rock so i was just going to throw my bone cutters in my back pocket and good to go. Well i forgot them at home and had no choice but to take the whole rock. When i put the rock into the bucket i reached in and felt a few of them and they were very stoney so i knew it was some sort of sps. Thanks Bert! I spent about an hour on that site going through all of them but just didn't know for sure.

  15. Been looking up the sps here thinking some sort of Pocillopora but this is definitely not my area. http://coral.aims.gov.au/info/factsheets.jsp Was pretty bright neon green when i pulled it Next is this super red stuff. Comes right off and is still pliable drying in the sun. This pic is clearly Coraline. It's very hard and needs to be chipped away. But this is the stuff in question. Red turf algae? Thanks in advance for the help!
  16. I don't think your boss/co-workers will ever look at you the same either! Assuming NSFW means not safe for work.
  17. Shipping live coral is a bit different from shipping you a bicycle pump , also i believe Softy has already offered to ship you one. Maybe try and contact him again or MrBret will also be able to contact him. http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/38630-jack-o-lantern-frags/ Good luck in your search
  18. You're welcome, glad i could try to help
  19. I also totally agree with Spectra and Brian when it comes to the amount of turnover we have in our tanks, it's pretty easy in most cases to eliminate that little dead spot that can form at the surface with a little powerhead adjustment or adjusting your returns. It's just a bit easier with a long overflow box because of what Brian said, gravity takes over.
  20. The thing with surface skimming/surface renewal is the longer the overflow box is determines just how effective it can be from how it was explained to me. Bean made me read the section on surface renewal 2-3 times before he realized i was just trying to get my system stable. He saw how long my tank was relative to the overflow box and focused on it a lot. The analogy he uses here makes a lot of sense. I wish my box was much longer. http://www.beananimal.com/projects/silent-and-fail-safe-aquarium-overflow-system.aspx
  21. Couldn't sleep and decided to send the Op's pics to Gary Cobb of Nudibranch.com.au and the response time was amazing. Sent at 2:58am and received at 3:31am Hi Gary, Can you please confirm for us this is a Vayssierea elegans/Vayssierea felis or maybe something else? Thanks for your time! Link to thread: http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/38763-id-help-please/ Chris PNWMAS Pacific Northwest Marine Aquarium Society Here is what he had to say. Hello Chris, Where was this animal found?? What was its size. I looks like a juvenile. I noticed it was found in an aquarium, probably came in from some rock or plant. I would be important to know where the item came from. Attached are two screenshots from my app series Nudibranch ID, if the animal came from the Western Atlantic it would be Elysia flava, if it came from the Indo Pacific it would be Elysia obtusa. These animals are algae eaters. The Elysia species have rolled rhinophores and a pair of parapodia wings. Cheers Gary The pics he sent me look nothing like what you posted but when i added juvenile to the search string i was very surprised.
  22. Thanks Kim! Vayssierea elegans/Vayssierea felis looks to be more of a match now that i've stumbled across it here. http://www.nudibranch.com.au/pages/8490a.htm http://www.lionfishlair.com/hitchhiker/vayssiera.shtml and here. Edit: I still want to snack on him as a Haribo Orange gummy bear though....but then again i still look at certain sps and wonder to myself.. hmmm, i wonder if that tastes as good as it looks?!
