  1. Added a new piece from CNC, @CuttleFishandCoral. I didn't really plan on buying anything at the time (and certainly not an LPS), but here we are.

There are some super solid items at the shop right now, as per usual. A wish the photo paid justice to the size of this Elegance Coral. It's massive! It's probably 9x7 inches when opened up. de829cff342c8abc64597298afbabff3.jpgb8a2be434d3e0eb50d145698c7914aaf.jpg1fa60ab83d4c676cabb3b18817f96a75.jpg

  2. Yea I actually bought the last one of this model. Drove up to Lakewood a few weeks ago where the owner met me half way. The quality is amazing and has great features. He still has some stock of some stuff at a bit of a discount. Super nice guy too.
Was that Mike? I know there was a rift between the Mike (the builder) and his business partner. Hopefully Mike ended up with the overstock.

  3. We just visited that store this weekend. Just to start researching and stuff, lovely people that worked there. All very helpful and didn't seem irratated at our questions.   My son has big plans of more tanks. Pretty sure he has the fever. Heh
Glad you found your way to Cuttlefish and Coral. I couldn't possibly think of a better place for you to end up. Ironically, I don't think they typically carry cuttlefish anymore. Jeff could probably special order them for you, though.

  4. Finally had a little time to finish the stand. Also got my sump I bought for the build out if the garage where I have been storing it. It looks so small compared to the stand. Going to need a check valve for sure. I think it will hold just enough back flow from the tank if the pump shuts off given I come up with a creative syphon break on the return. Excited to actually have some spare room in the stand so I dont need to have my dosing containers and ato res sitting next to the stand like my current tank.

Crystal Reef Aquatics... Nice sump. They built mine as well. It's a shame they ended up closing their doors.

  5. The pressure on reading on the gauge is not a safe way to tell how close you are to running out. Co2 cylinder are filled by lbs. of liquid. Do you know what size cylinder it is? 5lb., 10lb., 20lb.? This is how many pounds of liquid co2 they put in your cylinder. After you have that info look for a TW and a number stamped in the cylinder. This is the rare weight of the cylinder and will tell you the weight minus about a 1-1/2 lbs for the valve. Unhook your regulator and put it on a scale to find out out how many lbs. are left. Once you get under 3/4lbs. You should think about changing. After I get my new cylinder I hook it up to my regulator weigh it, write with felt on the label the full amount then everytime I weigh it I can tell exact amount.

Dang man, that's a pretty thorough assessment. The thing about these tanks, and @Gumby is right, is that the gauge reading is unreliable as a metric. Depending on temperature, once in place, the tank will read about 800 PSI and it will hold there until all the liquid CO2 is exhausted. Once there is not enough CO2 for it to be in a liquid state, the gauge will start dropping. If you want to be totally safe, once your gauge starts dropping you should look to replace it sometime soon, especially if you have a single stage regulator.

Thanks so much for your reply and precious thread recommendation.

    i have:

    rock flower nems (5 large)

    nems (2 large)

about 10 frag sized encrusting corals

    2 colonies “mad hatter” type

    5 sps frags (3”)

    10 mushrooms

    8 torch/hammer heads in total

    10 heads of acans

     2” blasto large frag

    montipora (4”)

    xenia and cloves

    1 large cynarina

    baselball sized colony orange yuma

    200 zoas

My tank is packed and I have a problem

The reason I dose 2 mL a day is because I don’t want to mess things up and I figure with more frequent water changes I’m replacing most of the lost minerals and nutes. As long as my pH is in the 8.2-8.3 range I figure things are where they need to be. I test for calcium and it’s consistently 420-460 so I don’t want to go any higher.

I don’t want to say “price is no object” but when considering $1000 in upgrades vs getting a therapist from dead corals it’s an easy decision. I just want to be as successful as I can be without the tank dominating my life.

You definitely want to be testing for alkalinity. That's way more important that calcium. Your calcium can shift from 420-460 and that would not really be a problem, but that same swing would correlate to your alkalinity moving 5.6 dKh, which is an astronomically massive fluctuation. Alkalinity swings like that would likely kill a lot of your hard coral. I would read up on Alkalinity more and wouldn't bother much with your pH.

  7. Finally got around to installing one of the DJ power strips. Like most things, once it goes on I immediately wonder why it took me so long to just do it. I think it turned out pretty well. The strips only handle 15 Amps each so I'll need to do some math to determine if I'm teaching close to that threshold. I bought another one just in case. The outlet itself is 20Amp.

Also, just checked my little app log and realized I haven't checked my alkalinity in 11 days. I should probably do that today. 😬😳

  8. I've ordered my dream tank, 120"x42"x36"H.  I've been debating if I want to convert a guest bedroom to sump filter room or use the closet under the staircase as sump filter room.  I've came up with first draft of sump design that will fit in the closet of size 110" x 45" and provide a little over 150gal capacity backflow when the return pumps are powered off.  One of my concern with this design is if any one of 4 return pumps need to be clean/replaced, I might have a hard time getting access to it.  Also, I want to add a sink so the sump probably can't be any longer than 60" and I'll have to lose some weight so I can fit in the closet with the sink.  Please take a look and let me know if there's something I'm overlooking.

Dang, congratulations on that! What's the plan for reinforcing the floor and evaporation? Those are two big things at tanks that size.

I don't seem to understand the sump flow correctly. The left side says drains to sump, but isn't the image of the sump? Also, the sump is two different sections connected by the ATS? That's kind of how I see it. If that's the case, I would definitely go with a different design that more easily moves water from one side to the next. Like I said, maybe I'm not understanding everything correctly.

  9. Hi @bamburgb the handheld unit is available but you do need to be a supporting member in order to borrow it and also put down a refundable $50 deposit - either through the clubs paypal account or with CnC when you pick it up.  Let us know if you are still interested.

Hey Sean, @bamburgb is Ben. The other meter is his [emoji6][emoji6]. He's getting some new lights and just being too polite to ask for his unit back immediately. That's why I posted that he'll be taking it next whenever he needs it.

  10. @Higher Thinking

Can you tell me where I am on the list? I have a new light I need to get installed but I want to see about how long I have to wait for this.

    Thanks,

    Richard

    @Higher Thinking

can I get added to the list once the meter is available.

Can I get added to this list?

Here's the lineup as of now. Technically one of the meters is Ben's (@bamburgb ), so he will get his meter whenever he's ready for it. He's getting some new lights soon, but until then, I'll keep moving forward through the line. Looks like TrailerMann and Reefrun have the units (or are picking them up shortly) and then it's continuing through this list.

Thanks for everyone being efficient and helping us move through the list.

Sorry, I missed your request. I've updated my previous post. Looks like 1 meter available for Reefrun and then two other members before you. I'd say 2-4 weeks depending on how fast people return them.

Can I get added to the waitlist? I'm picking up some radion g4 pros this weekend and dont trust my Seneye anymore.

This is a wonderful service from the Club.  But managing these meters is close to a thankless job and a volunteer one at that.  So, a big shout-out to the board and all others who keep this program moving. With that said, I would like to join the waiting list, and I promise to get it back quickly.

I would like to get the USB Par meter when it is available next.

    Thank you,

    Richard

I'm going to go ahead and move to@reefrun for the time being. If@jayteab is still interested, please sign up as a supporting member. Reef run, please send refundable deposit to PayPal@pnwmas.org ($50) before picking up Ben's meter from CnC.

Taylor and TrailerMann, you're getting closer.

@jayteab, you're up. The meter is currently at Cuttlefish. Please send your $50 refundable deposit to PayPal@pnwmas.org

    Thanks.

  14. I know it's not technically spelled out in the rules, but we should strive to only have the meters for a week. Pick it up on your weekend, keep it a week, and then return it on your next weekend. This is especially true when the list gets backed up like it is.
