Thank You!  Guess I'll have to upgrade my Lucky number to 2.   I've been working on my Alk control, and could really use an 2nd test kit/independent validation method.

(can someone remind me how to pickup my winnings?)

I don't know if we ever confirmed with you, but your prize is at @CuttleFishandCoral

Jeff asked me today who should have picked it up and I honestly couldn't remember. At any rate, it's there waiting!

  3. After years, I've finally put a cover on the reef tank. I don't think I used a cover on either of the previous two tanks. After a few casualties, including a pair of clowns I've had for about 8 years, I decided it's irresponsible to just keep not using a cover.

I actually like them. I can set tools, towels, and whatnot on them which is actually pretty dang convenient. However, I know that switching out power heads is going to be more of a pain that it already is and feeding is less convenient.

At any rate, here's how they turned out.

Also, here's the latest update on the Gigas. It's a freaking beast!

  4. Decided to risk it all for a fish!

Jeff had some pre QT PBTs in stock. I was going back and forth on whether I wanted it. Then good ole@Bicyclebill strolls in and starts thinking the same thing. Long story short, we both bought one.

It's been eating nori like crazy every day so that's a good sign. I contemplated QT, but figured I'd roll the dice. Into the sump it went! Now hear me out!

A stable, low stress environment is certainly not a bad thing when trying to acclimate a sensitive fish. Also, and I could be completely wrong for even assuming it, but I have a massive UV sterilizer on the sump that has to be reducing total pathogens in the sump before they ever reach the display. Obviously that's mostly wishful thinking, but the UV sterilizer will certainly alleviate potential ich outbreaks. A couple of my fish have broken out before so I know it's in there regardless.

Anyway, here's to hoping for the best!

  5. awesome just sent it over with details and username in the notes.  I should be able to stop by tomorrow about 12-1pm

Requesting to borrow par meter if available at shop.

[emoji2325]I'd like to get in line for the par meter.

Half-astronaut, I do believe the two newer units are checked out by the above individuals. Please correct me if I'm wrong. There's another one available that would work for T5s or Halide, but if you have LEDs I'd wait for one of the other two to return.

  6. Well, it’s been a heck of a week. Have a few minutes and thought I would do a small update on the progress. Almost two weeks ago Brad from cuttlefish cape down and brought some rock. He did a great job on the rocks scape. He did in a couple hours what would have taken me all day. I am still waiting on lights, skimmer and the mp40’s but the aquarium is full and started to cycle. I was able to get some of the apex gear up and running, but that will take some time. Here are a few pics.

  7. So sorry, glad it wasn't worse...  let me know if i can help with APEX alarms or anything..
Thanks man. That would assume of course that I have an apex [emoji2957]. I don't even have a pH monitor or controller, not even on the CaRx. Maybe someday I'll leap into modernity.... Someday.

  8. There has been a slight setback. My solenoid failed and wouldn't open. Took me a day or so to realize I wasn't pumping any gas. Alk dropped a solid point. Since then I've had to work to keep alk within .1 of the target. I've lost a couple of the mariculture pieces due to STN so that sucks. Hopefully I'll get it all dailed back in and keep this crazy growth going.

  9. Yeah that other clam is the Gigas. It's had some serious growth the last few months. It's off center a little from the light as compared to the other side, but it's still at around 600. It's wide open and throwing down some serious shell growth. I imagine the mantle will darken a little bit as I drop the overall intensity about 10% over the next couple weeks. Hopefully the growth will continue. wide78f0e2184b8e0e74a290f69b1e8af05f.jpg0730dfa5d1e4cab8e2106f843dd98ee9.jpg
This is 4 months of growth. Notice the thick shell line at about the 1.5 inch mark. That line shows the overall increase.

The Gigas clam continues it's solid growth. This thing just keeps throwing out mad shell growth. Here's a few photos of all the current clams. 3d3d16fa01b4f6ca37b829547dbb3aba.jpgbc45fa59ca62455690b8f9a91f665f10.jpg7583de9551aef868b5f55629aef2e365.jpg5da7e310a138d4c3d578224b3b074516.jpg

  10. Ok, it's very simple. Here's how this works, you have two options:

One is create a build thread for your reef system. If you're not familiar with these, it's basically a personal thread that details the ongoing progress of your system. It would start with details about tank, equipment used, livestock kept, etc. From there, it's up to you how often you post updates. Build threads are great ways to stay engaged with another, troubleshoot issues, and (most importantly [emoji6]) show stuff off.

Second option is to post a MEANINGFUL update to your ongoing build thread. Most members already have one going so it wouldn't make sense to only include new contributors. Show the club what's new with your operation!

Once you have done either of those options, post in THIS thread with a link to your build thread. That will be the only acceptable submission, a link posted in this thread. All links must have a contribution after the current time of 9:30PM today.

We will run this through the rest of the week. On Sunday at 9PM, I will use a random number generator to pick one of the posts from this thread.

Winner will receive a Hanna Alkalinity Checker.

That's it's! Update your build thread, win a Hanna checker! Let's see them tanks!

    Good luck everyone!
