  1. Anyone have this issue? I bought an APC at a garage sale, bought a new battery for it on eBay and have one jebao wp40 plugged into it. Recently I would look over and the wp40 would be off. Initially I thought it was from being on a wave mode or something so I ran it on constant. Then last week it was off again. I powered off the APC and turned it on again. It would start up for a second then stop. I finally just unplugged it and plugged it straight into a power strip. Wp40 works fine. So not sure really how to trouble shoot the APC, anyone have this issue or know what to look for on these?
  2. Oh snap that blue subie wagon that you came by in? Sucks man, good luck with fixing it (keep that boost down lol!)
  3. Sounds like a good plan. Make sure you get your lighting up to snuff before adding all the corals. 55 gallon is a nice size to keep things more stable. Good luck and ask lots of questions!
  4. Awesome, didn't realize they were doing tri dimming now! You'll love it I'm sure, I love my reefbreeders unit!
  5. That's right, the smaller kits just come with 1 as they are usually intended for supplemental lighting. Drivers are around $30 but you need the solder less stuff to unless you want to solder them. If you want a moonlight effect, just buy a moonlight kit separate for 20 or whatever they sell them for.
  6. I'll take it off your hands. I have some neon green yumas, one large with a few babies on a plug. Whichever you want can get ya cash.
  7. I had 2 wellsos and a scolly bleach out really bad. After moving them to a low light/low flow area, they regained their former glory colors in about a month. I'd just scoot yours in the shade, mine do great partially under my huge toadstool.
  8. I bought pods from reefs2go and was satisfied, i'm sure your stuff will be fine. I think the issue I had was species specific as most other snails survived the journey (but was from a different seller).
  9. Where are you ordering from? I tried ordering florida ceriths and none showed up alive...not sure why, maybe avoid those if you were considering. Personally, I don't like putting TONS of CUC like some people do. You only have a 40 gallon...don't go overboard because if you have some mass die off your ammonia levels will likely spike. I'd try a smaller crew to start with, like 10-20 snails and some other misc stars and such.
  10. I'd agree and say no hermits. I hate spending the time to wait for corals to open up after the lights go out, feed ones like brains or plates, then come look after 20 minutes to find hermits digging the food out of their mouths! After I watched this happen a few times I decided to go only snails. Some people on here seem to like fuzzy chiltons (if thats how you spell it). I have tiny ones that are all over but never bought a big one, heard they really go to town too. And don't get a cowrie if you have clams smaller than 2", had one eat one of them (flame)
  11. Thanks! If you notice centered in the top pic, there is a hollywood stunner frag about 1.5" square. It's hidden behind the toadstool but you can see it kinda sticking up, it's about the size of a small LP now! That chalice that got so big was just some random pink and teal one I got from Cos as a "lets try out a chalice" frag. It's about the size of a CD now lol
  12. To any new people or those who don't take many shots of your tank - TAKE AS MANY AS YOU CAN! It's amazing how much things change that you don't notice when you see things every day. I fortunately took a FTS of my 90 gallon back in January and took another last night. In January I had just fragged my toadstool....it's definitely time to again lol! I'm not a fan of him taking up so much real estate in my tank, but my fiancé says he has to stay or else! (wife) Some stuff is moved around but you get the idea Without and further adue....here's the pic:
  13. What's going on with that brain bleaching out on the left side? Better scoot him into the shade to get his colors back.
  14. Honestly, your probably better off not having an angel if you want to have a reef. Some people skate by with no issues, but they tend to be mean and also pick on corals occasionally. In my opinion it's easier to get them out and leave them out then try to get them out of an established reef tank (without messing up your corals and being generally pissed lol) Strange that your flame hawk is being mean like that. Mine was always docile, but was chased and tormented by my clowns. They each have their own personality so sometimes it's hit and miss with some fish.
  15. Welcome to the Forum! I've had some fish that dig around or hide under things have sand partciles get on them for a while and never turned to ick or anything. If they are disapearing the same day it's definately not ick. If they have ick they will probably start rubbing on rocks and the spots will usually just get worse and won't dissapear. Being a new system and new fish (depending on where they came from) I would definately keep a watch out for it though. Starting tanks is always stressful, they definately start to level out as the months pass and things become much more relaxed and enjoyable
  16. Par38 would be easy and likely a bit cheaper, but i'd say a 12 LED rapid solderless kit would be really nice. Snag one here: http://www.rapidled.com/12-led-plug-n-play-retrofit-kit-dimmable/ Plus a small heat sink, you'd be in less than $150 after all shipping and you can customize your LED colors to your liking. I'd do 1 red, 1 green, 2 UV, 4 White, and 4 Royal Blue. Would be a killer combo. Just my 2 cents.
  17. May be late notice, but if anyone is ordering in Vancouver area that I could hop on with that would be nice, don't need much. Can paypal money. PM me thanks! Edit: jumped on with someone already, thanks!
  18. Looks like a squamosa, that's a beaut!
  19. Yes, I was meaning the colt. They drop the ends off and more little trees sprout up elsewhere. They also seem to stem in the rock really deep which makes them hard to remove without leaving some behind and regrowing another. I remember being happy as a new reef keeper when this happened, then realizing they were getting all over the place in the span of about 3-6 months and them driving me crazy lol
  20. Great noobie coral but they multiply and spread like its hot and you may not want them later down the road lol. But enjoy them for now
  21. Yikes man, I take it insurance won't help with the bill? Good luck, hope you get it resolved quickly! Back pain is no joke, my Dad has had issues for years. Definately get it fixed before fixing a reef lol
  22. May want to post specs or pictures of the reactor. Any specific frags your looking to get? Most people on here have at least 10-20 varieties of zoas in their tanks lol.
  23. I'd keep it in low to medium light, they really don't like high light. I put mine too high and it started dying back, then moved it to a lower slightly shaded area and it's doing great. Good luck with that one, looks really nice! Cos is funny, he probably started talking gangster saying "dats a mussa" or something, he cracks me up lol!
  24. Where do you get the glass from? Do they cut it for you? Looks great so far! Can't wait till you get it setup!
