  1. Kate, what model (3/4 or 1") SCWD do you run?
  2. So Rick, what do you have in your system?
  3. I'm interested in the SQWD too. My new system will have an Ecoplus 1267 pump (1267 gpm, around 950 at 5'). I'd like the 1" only because it seems more robust, but Smann has experience that shows my pump wouldn't do the trick. Is it worth trying?
  4. Wow, these guys are running a top notch business here. They just set me up with a new 90G tank and stand, along with all the stuff I needed to fine tune it exactly how I want it. Robert and Cosmo are all about customer service, and their prices are like mail order! Highly recommend making the trip to check them out.
  5. Well I did it last night. Stopped by Ocean in a Box (after reading about many positive experiences from you fellow reefers)and ordered up a 90G with stand and canopy. Those guys are running a kick butt operation up there, and set me up with exactly what I wanted at an incredibly competitive price. Beyond competitive actually! Robert and Cosmo (I think that's right) are both incredibly helpful, knowledgeable, and willing to do whatever it takes to make their customers happy. I can't wait to get started on my new system!
  6. Thanks for all the feedback folks! I'm 6'3", so a 24 shouldn't be any trouble for me. I certainly don't want to wear a mask and snorkel to reach the bottom, so I'll stick with 24! Though the fantasy of being able to swim with your fish sounds cool, it certainly wouldn't be very practical.
  7. Looking for acrylic preferably. Nothing too old. Furniture grade stand/canopy tall enough for halides.
  8. So I've been seriously thinking of upgrading to a 90g, but Woody at Seahorse brought up a good point today. He pointed out that a 24" tank height makes everything more difficult than my current 18". Never really thought about it, though when he said it I remembered looking at Mytshall's 120g and wondering how the heck I would maintain that. So the question is: for those of you with 24" and taller tanks, are they much harder to maintain than say a 20" tall?
  9. I'm about where Ryan is. Mine is wet, but is absolutely the nastiest smelling swill I've ever smelled. Any drier, and the area below the removable cup starts getting caked up.
  10. Make sure to add sump level check. I wouldn't count on the timing part to be adhered to. I'd imagine your tank would do surprisingly well with about a third of your list for a short period. [language filter], you have a lot of stuff to do everyday!
  11. I just started BRS 2 part a month ago from just Kalk. I followed the BRS instructions to get my Alk and Calcium levels to where I wanted them (which was heavy dosing over a couple of days), and now am just doing the recommended amount they show on their website (.2 to .3 ml/gal each for softies and light LPS) daily. Working like a charm so far, but I don't have a heavy calcium load. I don't know that it makes sense to compare dosage amounts between two different products; you should simply be looking at the dosage amount the BRS Reef Calculator says to start from and adjust from there.
  12. Trent, that's been my experience with these guys too. They seem to be way smarter or on edge than any of my other fish. Shoot, I can pretty much grab any of my other fish while I'm feeding them,
  13. Thanks for the tips everyone! I'm going to try the home made pop bottle trap and see what happens
  14. What did you end up doing for venting on your light hood?
  15. I've got two pesky damsels that my daughter talked me into buying last year. I want them gone, but there is no way I'll ever catch a fish with a net in my tank without tearing it down. I made a mini spear with a straightened out fish hook epoxied to a thin rod, but the fish somehow "sense" it in my non feeding hand and stay back. Any ideas?
  16. Wow, the bowfront is a really cool design! Great looking tank!
  17. Welcome back into the hobby! I've definitely learned through the years that it's usually worth spending that little bit more up front to do it right, though it's after not doing it that way that I've come to the conclusion.
  18. Unless you have him on a leash, I'm interested to hear some methods of getting a lightning fast fish out of a reef tank.
  19. I'll take two of the Hammer frags if there are that many
  20. Sorry for my ignorance, but can a 400w ballast run 250w bulbs?
  21. I've got an Octopus NWB110 that fits just fine in a 10Ga sump I'll sell you. I ran it for a year, but upgraded to a bigger one. After upgrading, I realized that it was doing a great job already on my 60G.
  22. Ditto Reef Safari's comment. I heard from another person that there was an evite of some sort. Do you have to be a paid member to get those?
  23. These are my only lights.
