  1. Pics added of blue zoas to the first post. There are the two big polyps you can see in the photo, and the other side of the frag has four baby polyps. Also check out the second pic because it shows the actual color better... at least in my tank.
  2. Is my acan going to be ok? Would it cause more harm to pull it out? Crazy. Sorry for the bad pic. Lights still off...
  3. nice! but smile for the camera next time
  4. hey could I get some of the purple with green rim?
  5. OK, the zoas Eric gave me from the very first round have been growing super well, so I'm making a frag to keep sharing the love! These are the blue ones... go look at the first thread for his beautiful picture. I'll post one of the actual frag once it's ready. Also, I have a couple of other zoa and paly frags I will give you. (Sorry, don't know names). Pics coming soon. I'll randomly pick a winner for these next Tuesday. You know the routine.... "share the love!" PICS! The first one is the actual frag, but the color didn't come out exactly right. The second one is my frag, but it shows the true color better.
  6. Wow, I had been sitting out for awhile since I won the first one but I couldn't resist the favia... thanks!! (clap) Eric, the zoas you gave me have been growing really well. I'm going to make a frag today as a part of the next share the love!
  7. hey, I will take the last piece if it's still available! PM the paypal e-mail to send the $ to, ok? thanks!
  8. Hey everyone, I have been researching RO/DI units since I'm tired of hauling water from the store (especially after last weekend when I took a sharp turn on the Ross Island Bridge and the full bucket in the trunk fell over with such force that the lid popped off and I lost 5 gallons!) Aghh... anyway... So I read on the Water Bureau website that our water is indeed treated with chloramines. My question is: is the chloramine-specific unit *really* necessary or do standard RO/DI systems do a good enough job? I'm guessing I need the chloramine-specific unit, but I thought I would ask about what other people in the metro area are doing, just in case it would save me a little $. Thanks!! Kendra
  9. congratulations!! what a beauty. and I'm all for babysitting services for meetings... my younger boy just turned 1 on April 30th, too.
  10. oooh are there any left? I'll take a frag, I love those.
  11. Hey, I was planning to frag a zoa colony this weekend. Where can I get some frag disks locally? thanks!
  12. OK, seems like we're ok because everything has been fine since the food experiment. Hooray! The orange montis are doing GREAT after the dip. Good idea with the zoas. Our clownfish has really taken to that frogspawn you sent me home with, too! I hate to use the "c" word, but it's awfully cute...
  13. Awesome, thanks everyone. Now I have at least another week to decide what kind of fish to put in here!!
  14. So, we started cycling our 24g tank about 14 days ago. We started by adding sand we got from Alex and a good squirt of ammonia w/ more sand we got from Woody at Seahorse. A couple days later, we added a bunch of live rock from Ciao's tank. The tank got smelly. Smelled like we were living in a giant catbox. Even the 6 year old complained. And he's usually pretty oblivious to everything. Then we had a big brown algae bloom. The brown algae was still around, while we saw some greenish stuff on the glass (but very little, comparatively). Then we had a few days with what looked like cyanobacteria. Those disappeared, and the brown algae is almost completely gone now too. So, I tested the tank and it's showing ammonia = 0 (yay!), nitrite = 0 (yipee!), but ... nitrates are barely there too. With the Elos test, it was about 1 (maybe even less), and with the API test, it was around 5. Shouldn't it be higher than that at this point? I assumed we were cycling pretty well because of all the algae, but I don't know where the nitrates are now. I thought you could only really reduce them with water changes? (We haven't done any.) Oh, and the rock came with a bunch of feather dusters, asterinas, and stomatellas, all of which survived the whole thing... in fact, the asterinas and stomatellas are in freakishly large numbers now... Thanks for your help! kendra
